Browns Roster Moves Early

The Browns Board

  • The Browns finished 13th in Scoring defense this season..The defense wasn't the problem, consistent QB play was the problem..all Holmgren guys by the way..We just exited a lot of depth..Rogers should have been cut last year..he's a quitter..The defense is now in full rebuilding mode as is the offense..how many years for this plan...2,4,6..SMH

  • I will say this once.

We will be drafting AJ Green if he is there (all depends on Carson Palmer and the Cincy situation).

If he is not there, we will go DE. But WR is still our biggest problem. You can't win a game with a D lineman. There are plenty of those in the draft.

I am glad you will only say that once because it sounds stupid. πŸ˜•

  • I'm a little disappointed about the Defensive rebuild. They played well as a unit last year, I know there were some games they really stunk it up. But it's hard to blame them fully when the Offense was putrid and could hardly put together a sustainable drive to give them rest.

It seemed our Defense was average last season and like most/all rebuilds our D will just get worse before they get better.

It's going to get much worse..Under Mangini we were 2 maybe 3 players from a dominate defense.Of the top 13 scoring defenses 9 were in the play offs ..top 2 were Pittsburgh and Green Bay..3 and 4 were Baltimore and Chicago.5 Jets..Now changing this to a 4-3 is going to be painful..just wait and see..again..smh

By the way..GB and Pitt..3-4 teams..Jets 3-4 team..3-4 is the future in the NFL

  • Good start to turning around a bad situation i must say, as for rogers getting cut its not really unexpected as he cost more than he is worth..

Waiting to hear elam and wrights numbers to be called soon as neither of these guys will fit well into a 4-3 scheme....

As for being 2 or 3 players from a dominant defense under mangini, it wasnt going to happen because by next year we would have had to completely replenish the front 7 regardless, mangini and his old jets had our defense set up for a constant cycle of rebuild..

Im not only glad that bum is gone but i like the tenacity of this regime to take the pain and get it right the first time not the second, third, fourth or fifth..

This rebuild will hopefully be executed professionally unlike mangini's scrub attempt..

  • *The title should say 'Hope for O-line'. I'm illiterate.

Rogers , Coleman, Barton, Bowens, Royal

Well, we dumped some baggage, good moves. I was hoping we could get rid of StClair and Royal. Cutting Rodgers is a good move too.

While I liked what Bowens did last year and some of Coleman, they were getting to old.

Kenyon Coleman, Eric Barton, St Clair, Royal, David Bowens are either all in the twilight of their career and/or suck.

This is not a REBUILD, this is a CLEANSING.

Get ready for a young pass rusher, a FA to stabilize the middle next to Rubin and the movement of Roth or someone to DE.

We must be high on Hankerson in the 2nd round and are most likely going to go DE with the first overall.pick... MAN we could use Fairley....

The draft should go like this:

    DE

    WR

    DT

    LB

    RT

    WR

    DE

I'm not against looking at someone like Vincent Jackson and Sidney Rice either. We need major help at critical positions. WR and DE are critical to a teams success.

I like how everyone talks like it is a sure thing the FA like Roth or Gocong will be resigning with the team. There is actually a really good chance that Roth leaves, especially if they say he is being moved to a DE.

Hoe does a safety and a corner not fit into a 4-3 defense??? The change from a 3-4 to a 4-3 has no nothing to do with the secondary and I would actually expect them to resign at least Elam who finished the second half of the season strong as one of our top defensive play makers. I also wouldn't be surprised if we resigned Wright to a one year deal if no other teams seemed interested in him.

I would just like to point out again that some of these guys, though old and severely declining in talent, were really good people, on the team and in the community. Eric Barton received and award this year for his charity and community service and Bowen was a great example for the younger players showing them what they can accomplish if they never give up (went from being injured and almost cut in training camp to almost single handedly winning the New Orleans game and taking over as a defensive captain at the end of the year). Sad to see good people like these guys leave but we do need younger and better talent at these positions.

  • Wow, so in a 4-3, we need more D-linemen than Linebackers

We currently have Robaire Smith (but he might be a FA that we won't resign, don't recall), Rubin, and a bunch of scrubs...

We just cut Coleman and Rogers...

Who's gonna be on our D-Line?

    I think round 1 is gonna be a D-lineman

I have thought that all along. The Browns front 7, except for a couple of guys really was not very good. Needless to say with 4 of the 6 guys shown the door being from the defensive front 7, the Browns are gonna need bodies.

Does anyone know the status of D'Qwell Jackson?

  • john st clair is gone? THANK GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't he do pretty poorly this year?

I think he was injured much of the year.

  • All of these are pretty much expected. Let's not forget that most of our linebackers are not suited for a 4/3 either. Maybe a couple of them could fill in at DE until we have better options.

  • I can't beleive peterbell is still on Mangini's nuts.. Barton, bowens, coleman are so old and slow. How un exciting would it be knowing these guys were gonna be on our team?

  • rogers is definately addition by subtraction.

used to be a dominate interior lineman, now just fat and overpaid.

kinda how i feel about the Steeler's NT hampton.

Really?......weren't you the one all over Gruden's nuts? Did he ever coach here? So now your complaining?.........get real!! Can you say NO CREDIBILITY? You should put it at the bottom of everything you post.

  • Still what concerns me about giving up so many d personal is that at the #6 pick its probally going to come down to Robert Quinn or Marcell Dareus and to me there both not that elite NFL player thats gonna come in sure they both displayed great athletism and raw Talent but Robert Quinn hasnt played in a full season and im a firm believer that Marvin Austin will have the better NFL Career, Marcell Dareus went from Roating and had 11 sacks to starting and had 2 sacks the whole season, many claim he gave up on alot of plays and wasnt there (Rodgers??) so yeah thats who will probaly need up getting just because will have to draft on need alone instead of BPA

You did report it first. Let it be known that jasont44094 gets the credit for this.

However, your post had no link or true credibility yet, hence why a new topic was created with a link from a reliable source. Its not personal.

Or you could have merged his thread with yours. Another idea would have been to simply add the link to his post.

An even better idea, would be to move on and forget something so dumb!

I thought about that but his topic was a question of the roster move, not that the roster move had happened, so the formatting would have looked awkward to the average poster.

Why would you want credit? Who are you trying to impress?
