  • Ok, so why aren't we playing better because our drafts picks.

    Thanks u proved my point

  • I think a big reason we didnt go after a WR in FA is that all the WRs were crap that wanted more then they were worth. Next year on the other hand there are some very god WR available such as Wes Welker, MArques Colston, Steve Johnson, Jordy Nelson, and Pierre Garcon ... Plus Desean Jackson who will probably be franchised and Mike Wallace is a RFA

I would much rather pay any of those guys next year and evaluate what we have this year with a full year of Colt. Then piss away money on the crap WRs that were available this year.

I also happen to think Colt isn't very good right now and it is making us look that much worse. He has done nothing this year but make terrible throws. Hopefully he either gets better or we get a new QB.

Well, H&H correctly surmized the talent level on the Browns wasn't good enough to make a Super Bowl run this year. You use free agency to supplement your core of talent, not the other way around. Those great Steeler teams of the 70s were built through the draft. Who's #1 in the power rankings today? Packers? Other than Woodson, the list of their FAs is mighty short. Rodgers, Driver, Raji, Matthews, Hawk- all astute draft picks.

I'm not against bringing in free agents- I fact I was thrilled when we brought in LeCharles Bentley unfortunately, that didn't work out. But there's a time and place for making a FA push or the big trade. That would be the Raiders and Falcons. We'll see how that works out as both teams have mortgaged their future in the hope of winning it all now. MHO is the Falcons maybe- the Raiders likely have made one of the biggest goofs since Hershell Walker.

BTW, the only reason guys like Delhomme and Fujita were brought in was to provide some quality veteran leadership.

  • Its a broken record around here....lmao. peoplee just don't get it.....FA solves everything, until reality kicks in.

Green bay is a great example of a team adding a great free agent. Charles Woodson was great, and so was reggie white. It isnt just signing guys blindly im aksing for.. Much better signings than Fujita and delhomo

If we drated half as good as greenbay we could go there route.

And again, you dont add talent over one year.. You can add a piece here or there in free agency.. Stop with were not a superbowl team bullshit.. NFL is about wins and losses.

We signed Brandon Jackson, osama young and dimitri patterson.. 3 of the worst signings of all time!

Why not add a steve breaston? Why not add a quality RG or RT?

Again....tell us how much better ray edwards is than Mitchell, or the astounding success sims-walkwr had before getting cut from the rams.

If I'm a sheep, ur a rat. Sheep bear wool, rats just shit everywhere.

We have drafted very good since Heckertt has been here so we are essentially taking the same exact approach as Green Bay. We still obviously need atleast one more draft to solidify our core. Next year we have 2 first round picks ... Essentially can can get a playmaking outside backer, and another stud CB ... then address the rightside of the line in round 2. Then we can sign one of those WRs I mentioned in my last post and all of a sudden we look good (pending of course on resigning Dqwell and perhaps Hillis) That could obviously go right out the window if McCoy continues to struggle and we a shot at a real QB early ... however if he does improve and they move forward with him next years draft can really upgrade the defense to a very good D.

We also need to add a free safety, and a solid gaurd in either or the second round of the draft.

And Breston is nothing special ... We have WRs that are the same as him. He is a waste of our money and time.

Reggie White was the final piece of a SB caliber team. It makes sense to add a final piece through free agency when you are close to the SB. Just how close do you think the Browns are?

Did I? The Bungles were 10-6 in 2009, added high-priced free agents in 2010 and proceeded to go 4-12. Bungles get rid of said free agent and other trouble makers and are sitting at 4-2.

You can't see the forest for the trees.

See the Bengals 2009 record. They have a lot more to work with (their defense is much better too.)

Comparing CB's to safeties is apples and oranges. At that point compare Sue to DE's ... he wouldn't be the best at his position anymore.

You should also factor in the fact that in a very pass happy NFL a stud CB is more important then a stud DT.

The argument between the 2 is stupid though because both are young upcoming studs at there respective positions and both will only get better

  • @hoorta said:

"The most successful teams in the league make decisions for the long term and not just what is best for today. Thinking one day at a time is extremely dangerous. And let's face it: The Raiders made this move for today."

The above is from one of the pros at NFL.com. Read it. Reread it, and reread it again until it sinks through your thick skull. You're a one trick pony, salivating over any Free Agent (washed up or not) or potential trade bait that's come down the pike. So tell me how's Asomugah working out in Philly, Edwards in San Fran, or Kolb in Arizona? Not so hot you say? Go to the head of the class, Mr. Free Spender.

You do anything more than bitch the Browns aren't winning NOW because they ain't following your perfect plan? You think I wouldn't like to at least have a winning season sometime soon? Until you're plunking serious coin down every year for season tickets, (like several of us on this board do) you've got no horse in the race. Let me clue you in- Mike Holmgren's forgotten ten times more about football than you'll ever know.

BTW, if you think Heckert doesn't know what he's doing you don't know what you're talking about. He unloaded Andersuk, got Hillis + a draft pick for Quinn, got four starters out of the 2010 draft, 5 starters and a significant backup out of the 2011 draft. What the hell do you want? A repeat performance of the Steelers supreme luck in the '70s when they pulled four Hall of Famers out of the Rabbit Hat in ONE draft?

Yes impatient one, the top free agents weren't coming here, the second tier ones wanted to be overpaid, and your latest heart throb Brandon Lloyd will want to be paid like Larry Fitzgerald assuming he has a decent year with the Rams, potentially blowing the Browns cap space in 2012 to hell.

I've been waiting since 1964 for the Browns to win it all- I can wait one more year to see if Holmgren and Heckert are on the right track. Too damn bad if you aren't. One thing I've seen over the years that doesn't work is the short term band aid approach fails miserably. So we've blown everything up about every two years since 1999, and it has produced a reliable stream of garbage. Let's try it again!! Not! So who do you want as GM? I'm listening. Too bad your other man-crush Gruden just re-upped with ESPN for another 5 years, so he won't be coaching anytime soon, hate to tell you. Yup, the Raiders just might squeak into the playoffs this year with Palmer. In 2014 they'll be 2-14 and be picking in the top three. Take it to the bank. My plan (and Holmgren and Heckert's) is better than one and done. Re read that top line again, please.

Hoorta, Let me steel a quote from someone on your brain level. Mike Tyson "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"

Now read that quote over and over again... I love it how you call Holmgren and Heckerts plan yours, have you given them input??? HAHAHHAHAAH

Have you thought about a 12 step program for yourself?

No but maybe you need one if you think you can build a Super Bowl team through free agency. Or because you're too thick to realize I happen to agree with the steps Holmgren and Heckert are taking to rebuild the Browns, and you don't. 1\2 the big ticket free agents don't work out with their new teams, or are guys like Moss and TO that go ring chasing the last couple years of their careers.

And you're not even being selective on who you want. I'm not going to bother backtracking your posts to look up the crap you've been pimping for the Browns that's done squat so far this year. In your world, the grass is always greener with guys we don't have. FWIW, Breaston's stats this year (with an equally lousy team) are identical to Massaquoi's so stuff it.

  • You all do realize we are 30 million under the cap this year..We could have brought in some WCO help.

Austerity measures are in full affect in Cleveland..Except for game tickets and the such..Why..these

people know Cleveland Brown fans are off the hook loyal to all things Browns..Why should they spend, we will

keep putting up with this s**t and they know it..When people stop showing up to the stadium then maybe..

He is a Yankees fan so free agency is a big thing for him. I mean look at what free agency did for the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies this year. Oh wait...

Holmgren and Heckert are committed to building through the draft. Once we are playoff contenders we will add in some missing pieces through free agency. This is the first season under the WCO. It hasn't been pretty so far but let's see how the rest of the season goes first. We are only a third of the way in right now..

i gotta say, these guys would have made us into a playoff caliber team. im gonna waste the time to explain it to ya rebel, but blowing our cap for this kinda production would have been a great use of money. at least TO had decent numbers, but he was also operating with a decent QB in palmer. in other words, those high priced guys you get 2k yards out of in madden dont immediately go in and make bad teams better. if you think that, prove it with some evidence.

this isnt baseball either....here you sit thinking football is like baseballwhile the yanks are sitting at home wondering how all that money they spent went to waste. u think AJ burnett was worth all those millions? 😆 make a case for your argument....cause thus far those high priced guys you longed for arent doing so hot.

  • You guys miss the point...

Let me spell it out for you. I don't like the free agents this team has brought in over the last two years. Terrible! Fujita, delhomo, paterson, jackson and osama young, also throw in Pashos to that..

What i would have liked them to do is yes, bring in one play maker. Steve Breaston has started to come on this year. Bring in some descent oline help.

We resigned j mitchell who is terrible and we gave a bunch of money to Gocong..

Now lets start talking about the draft. Lets give em that haden and ward from last year were good picks. After that, who? Dont tell me since lauvao is starting he is a good pick. Where are the diamonds in the rough? Where are the picks rd 4-7???? Oh yeah there either in active every week or on another teams roster.

You guys just dont get it. I dont see the Browns making the strides through the draft that will make them competitive.. We look slow and un talented.

Say what you want about MY Yankees, but at least they try to win. Now that said baseball and football are different. Eventually perception becomes reality!
