Did I? The Bungles were 10-6 in 2009, added high-priced free agents in 2010 and proceeded to go 4-12. Bungles get rid of said free agent and other trouble makers and are sitting at 4-2.

You can't see the forest for the trees.

See the Bengals 2009 record. They have a lot more to work with (their defense is much better too.)

Comparing CB's to safeties is apples and oranges. At that point compare Sue to DE's ... he wouldn't be the best at his position anymore.

You should also factor in the fact that in a very pass happy NFL a stud CB is more important then a stud DT.

The argument between the 2 is stupid though because both are young upcoming studs at there respective positions and both will only get better

  • I wouldn't know. If so, I doubt you have many black cats crossing your path on a daily basis.

  • @hoorta said:

"The most successful teams in the league make decisions for the long term and not just what is best for today. Thinking one day at a time is extremely dangerous. And let's face it: The Raiders made this move for today."

The above is from one of the pros at NFL.com. Read it. Reread it, and reread it again until it sinks through your thick skull. You're a one trick pony, salivating over any Free Agent (washed up or not) or potential trade bait that's come down the pike. So tell me how's Asomugah working out in Philly, Edwards in San Fran, or Kolb in Arizona? Not so hot you say? Go to the head of the class, Mr. Free Spender.

You do anything more than bitch the Browns aren't winning NOW because they ain't following your perfect plan? You think I wouldn't like to at least have a winning season sometime soon? Until you're plunking serious coin down every year for season tickets, (like several of us on this board do) you've got no horse in the race. Let me clue you in- Mike Holmgren's forgotten ten times more about football than you'll ever know.

BTW, if you think Heckert doesn't know what he's doing you don't know what you're talking about. He unloaded Andersuk, got Hillis + a draft pick for Quinn, got four starters out of the 2010 draft, 5 starters and a significant backup out of the 2011 draft. What the hell do you want? A repeat performance of the Steelers supreme luck in the '70s when they pulled four Hall of Famers out of the Rabbit Hat in ONE draft?

Yes impatient one, the top free agents weren't coming here, the second tier ones wanted to be overpaid, and your latest heart throb Brandon Lloyd will want to be paid like Larry Fitzgerald assuming he has a decent year with the Rams, potentially blowing the Browns cap space in 2012 to hell.

I've been waiting since 1964 for the Browns to win it all- I can wait one more year to see if Holmgren and Heckert are on the right track. Too damn bad if you aren't. One thing I've seen over the years that doesn't work is the short term band aid approach fails miserably. So we've blown everything up about every two years since 1999, and it has produced a reliable stream of garbage. Let's try it again!! Not! So who do you want as GM? I'm listening. Too bad your other man-crush Gruden just re-upped with ESPN for another 5 years, so he won't be coaching anytime soon, hate to tell you. Yup, the Raiders just might squeak into the playoffs this year with Palmer. In 2014 they'll be 2-14 and be picking in the top three. Take it to the bank. My plan (and Holmgren and Heckert's) is better than one and done. Re read that top line again, please.

Hoorta, Let me steel a quote from someone on your brain level. Mike Tyson "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"

Now read that quote over and over again... I love it how you call Holmgren and Heckerts plan yours, have you given them input??? HAHAHHAHAAH

Have you thought about a 12 step program for yourself?

No but maybe you need one if you think you can build a Super Bowl team through free agency. Or because you're too thick to realize I happen to agree with the steps Holmgren and Heckert are taking to rebuild the Browns, and you don't. 1\2 the big ticket free agents don't work out with their new teams, or are guys like Moss and TO that go ring chasing the last couple years of their careers.

And you're not even being selective on who you want. I'm not going to bother backtracking your posts to look up the crap you've been pimping for the Browns that's done squat so far this year. In your world, the grass is always greener with guys we don't have. FWIW, Breaston's stats this year (with an equally lousy team) are identical to Massaquoi's so stuff it.

  • You all do realize we are 30 million under the cap this year..We could have brought in some WCO help.

He is a Yankees fan so free agency is a big thing for him. I mean look at what free agency did for the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies this year. Oh wait...

Holmgren and Heckert are committed to building through the draft. Once we are playoff contenders we will add in some missing pieces through free agency. This is the first season under the WCO. It hasn't been pretty so far but let's see how the rest of the season goes first. We are only a third of the way in right now..

  • peter...we'reonly12milunder the cap. we were 24mil at the end of FA period.

Last year I cried for us to do anything, trade of boldin, brandon marshal anyone and everyone said we didn't need them.

I don't see how being 24 million under the cap sends a positive message to fans or future free agents. No one here is saying to sign randy moss or terrel owens, but hell malcolm floyd or steve breaston would have be an upgrade.

i gotta say, these guys would have made us into a playoff caliber team. im gonna waste the time to explain it to ya rebel, but blowing our cap for this kinda production would have been a great use of money. at least TO had decent numbers, but he was also operating with a decent QB in palmer. in other words, those high priced guys you get 2k yards out of in madden dont immediately go in and make bad teams better. if you think that, prove it with some evidence.

this isnt baseball either....here you sit thinking football is like baseballwhile the yanks are sitting at home wondering how all that money they spent went to waste. u think AJ burnett was worth all those millions? 😆 make a case for your argument....cause thus far those high priced guys you longed for arent doing so hot.

  • You guys miss the point...

Let me spell it out for you. I don't like the free agents this team has brought in over the last two years. Terrible! Fujita, delhomo, paterson, jackson and osama young, also throw in Pashos to that..

What i would have liked them to do is yes, bring in one play maker. Steve Breaston has started to come on this year. Bring in some descent oline help.

We resigned j mitchell who is terrible and we gave a bunch of money to Gocong..

Now lets start talking about the draft. Lets give em that haden and ward from last year were good picks. After that, who? Dont tell me since lauvao is starting he is a good pick. Where are the diamonds in the rough? Where are the picks rd 4-7???? Oh yeah there either in active every week or on another teams roster.

You guys just dont get it. I dont see the Browns making the strides through the draft that will make them competitive.. We look slow and un talented.

Say what you want about MY Yankees, but at least they try to win. Now that said baseball and football are different. Eventually perception becomes reality!

  • Mangini was fired for not winning enough..So is 5-11 acceptable this year..4-12..6-10?...Whats the number?

Squawking from the locker room..What makes you think this could not implode?

Considering 4 of the last five games involve Ravens and Steelers..UGH..We better have good team chemisrtry or its about to get very ugly.

So are you saying, the Tribe or any other team is not TRYING TO WIN because they do not have a 200 million dollar payroll, cause if you are..thats one arguement you will lose...

I can see your point about a Wide-out, but our F.O knows what they are doing..Every teams draft picks all do not go to the pro bowl, sorry it just does not happen..

Herkett has had a great draft picks over the last 2 years...

In 2012 I think they are going to draft more defense with our first two picks also, then they are going to piss every OSU hater off, by picking Haren and Posey in the 3rd and 4th round...OH that will chap some peoples ass!!!!! This board might explode....LOL

    No dude!

But you look around NFL teams, take emotions out of it. Cause obviously us all being passionate Browns fans fog our judgement one way or another. I have lots of friends and follow other teams on different boards. They even have the perception that the Browns arent doing enough, via the draft or free agency..

I beleive we will see who is right once it all plays out. Lets forget about this year since all of you who support the FO say that..

What can i expect next year??? When we still blow.. Will you guys who support the FO come around or will you stay the course??

See i can admitt when im wrong, but unfortantely i dont think im going to be wrong..

youre sick of losing....we get that. but what you are suggesting has been proven to be ineffective in the long term. this is a fact and supported by many long term winners. do you not get that? does the failing of the redskins over the years just not sink in? if you really are sick of losing and want something more than the fluke 2007 season, then simply shut up and watch how building thru the draft is done. its what we need....but then again, it seems like u think every draft pick should be playing like a probowler from day one...and if they dont, its a failure. if you dont see how utterly ridiculous this is, then ill just agree to disagree.

yes...ill bag on your yankees. their the poster child franchise of trying to buy a winner. some years its worked, and theyre always competitive. yet,2 teams that build thru their farm system and make SMART FA signings are stillplaying while jeter and arod are moping around the house. texas went back without cliff lee. the evidence is all around you,you just cant see it cause youre up to your eye lids in bullshit.

Don't knock jete! He is the kalamazoo kid. From our farm system by the way. He has 5 rings and had minka kelly.. I don't know which one I would want more his rings, minka kelly or his cock? Wait does that make me gay??

    Arod is a homo...

  • Oh yeah I forgot, carpenter furcal, holliday, berkman.... ect......... didn't come from the cards farm system..

    Beltra??? Nelson cruz?? Napoli????

Dude if ur gonna debate facts at least no some..

  • As much as I hate the Spankees, I will admit that Jeter is the Man...That being said his best yrs are behind him, but we all know that...

For most cities that is true.

But there are owners who are holding out on there teams and fans. You look at the Astros ownerm he dwarfs the steinbrenners in terms of wealth. Why not invest into there team? Toronto also has a wealthy owners..

Way off base. As as far as tickets go- there was no increase in ticket prices this year, and the average price per ticket puts the Browns near the bottom in cost of going to see a game.

Not showing up doesn't work either- the Bungles haven't come close to selling out this year- there were 20,000 empty seats for the Colts game, and even cheapskate Mike Brown isn't worried. You do know an owner would still make money even if the stadium was totally empty, don't you? It's TV revenue that's the big cash cow. Though Lerner would never do it, total non-support is a good reason to get worried your team might move to greener pastures- the folks in Jacksonville are getting a tad nervous about those LA rumors.

Ah, I finally got it through MY Thick head where WRRebel is coming from. Yankees fan- tells me all I need to know. Well the Yankee baseball model of buying up all the talent every year to go pennant chasing doesn't work in the NFL- never has, since Free Agency and a hard salary cap. It worked once way back when for George Allen and his Over the Hill Gang of Redskins.

I happen to agree in Spades with the part of your post I put in red. Buster Skrine looks to be a terrific pickup for the round he was drafted in. And it's really a bit much at this point to expect Taylor to be playing like Suh or Ngata, and Sheard to be the second coming of Abraham and Tuck.

That hard cap has consequences- just ask the Colts, who are paying a ton of money to Manning, Freeney, and Mathis, and have to go bargain basement shopping to fill other positions.
