No, Clausen was a 2nd round pick, not a top 10. Ignoring that fact, there are flops, but you get the best chance at getting the best players are picking the highly rated players at the top of the draft. Bottom line. He's not a sure thing, nobody is a sure thing, but you have to play the odds.

You missed the point, they talked him up that he was a sure top ten pick just like there doing RG3. And like you pointed out he ended up going in the 2nd round. That was my point, it happens every year.

No,I didn't miss any point. You claim that people are hyped and then suck. I was pointing out that your example wasn't true. There's nothing you can about the possible suckiness of a draftee. You draft a player you have the greatest confidence in and hope for the best. But everybody cries about the offense sucking so bad and now there's a guy who can be a huge part of changing that and a bunch of people don't want him. I don't get it. People must love a crappy team.

I would love if we traded down from 4 into the 15-20 range, got Wright or Floyd and then DE/LB/CB with the Atlanta pick. And pick up an extra 2nd rounder this year and a first next year along with a couple mid round picks. That would be my dream scenario.

A couple flaws with that. One, if we are indeed able to trade down, that would mean that RG3 is available at 4 seeing as how he's going to be the only kid not named Luck that will garner a need to trade up for that early in the draft. So with RG3 available this would mean that we are passing up a franchise QB. That would be more like a nightmare to me, not a dream.

Next issue is that the teams looking to move up to take a QB wouldn't have to pay as much as you're thinking. Lets take the Skins for instance, for them to move up it's believed the cost would be a 2nd rounder this year and perhaps a 3rd round pick next year, but that's not even a foregone conclusion. It would more than likely be us swapping 1st round picks and them giving us their 2nd. Now we become that team again who misses on the stud game changer and pick up some more bodies who fill the roster. Again, that's my idea of a nightmare, the nightmare I've been living as a Browns fan since '86.

Why is every so impressed by RGIII. He's going to be the biggest bust since Ryan Leaf so get over it. Take Kendall Wright with the second first-round pick and don't look back.

No you did miss my point, it was obvious in your response....

What wasn't true about my example? The same people you are listening to now that are calling RG3 a top 5 pick also called Clausen a top 10 pick, he wasn't and he sucks. What aren't you following.

There's many people we could draft that could be a hugh part of improving our offense. Is RG3 gonna make Little catch the ball? Or MoMass get seperation? Or Pashos move his feet? Or Hillis stay healthy? We can use that pick and improve one of those area's and have a much higher percentage of them being successful. RG3 has alot of question marks, and history has shown players with his skill set and system experience have an extremely hard time adjusting to the NFL game. Are we just gonna ignore that because he's flashy. I dont think we need to take that risk, there's to many other area's in need of improvement. Get Colt some weapons and sure up the line, then if he's still unsuccessful we can draft a QB knowing he has a fair shot at winning.

  • A lot of people are of the opinion that we should not take a QB with our first round pick because there is a good chance of him being a bust. And for Examples they spout out the names of Tim Couch and Brady Quinn. They say we need to take a WR with our top pick.

If we use the same analogy, then we took Braylon Edwards #3 and he didnt do us much good. So by the same analogy, we should not be picking WR's with the top pick. What do u say to that ?

Im not saying don't take him because he COULD be a bust, Im saying it because weighing all the factors makes him LIKELY to be a bust.

Blackmon Could be a bust, but weighing all the factors he's NOT LIKELY to be a bust.

These a difference, buts its based on my opinion. If fair for you to disagree.

  • Ill take an actual bet with anyone that dosent believe Griffin will go top 5, we can set up a paypal or whatever you like...

I feel sorry for jparsh he is spot on and because people dont like the prospect dosent mean he wont be a high draft pick, you can ask just about any draft expert and they will tell you the same thing...If you dont believe me then wait till the draft and then we can see for sure...Hell we have John Clayton saying the Redskins are most likely going to move up to the 2nd pick but we rather take some internet forum peoples opinons over his incredible im pretty sure his sources are better than ares...

Im not pro or anti RG3. I have not watched enough college games to make an informed decision. All I saw were bowl games.

  • I had a dream about Brady Quinn last night. He was actually awesome, it just took him 8 years to figure it out.

I hope that's not the case.

Back on subject, Alshon has a much higher ceiling. He played in a much harder conference against much tougher defenses, and he would have likely been a top 5 pick if it weren't for the shit QB situation at S.Car this season.

He's 6 inches taller than Kendall Wright, 40 lbs heavier and is only a tenth of a second slower. And he's fat. Once he sheds his fat working with NFL strength and conditioning coaches, he'll likely go from 4.5 to 4.4 speed.

Alshon Jeffery is the closest thing to Calvin Johnson since...well, Calvin Johnson. He's a tremendous YAC receiver, and he's the biggest redzone threat in the draft this year. For a team lacking any redzone threats, I think Jeffery would be a fantastic acquisition.

  • 20 dollars, put it in your sig so we dont forget. I already have paypal but I dont intend on using it 😛

Since all the odds appear stacked against me though, you gotta take some risk to. If he does go top 5, I pay you. But it doesn't mean I'm wrong. So he's got 4 years to win a playoff game or you owe me. Fair enough??

You called Clausen a top 10 pick, did you not? Seems like you're a bit upset because you have no clue what you're talking about and I pointed that out. Clausen was a 2nd round pick at QB that sucked, seems like it kinda goes with my theory that you should grab a top rated QB in the 1st round since they have a greater success rate then those picked in the 2nd round and later.

And with your logic is there a WR we're going to draft that will make McCoy throw the ball at an NFL level? QB's are the main variable that make the biggest difference. Manning led a 10-6 team that went 3-13 without him. Cam Newton took a lowly 2 win team and led them to 6 wins and were in many more games they could have won. This is a QB driven league. Nine of the top ten QB's are in the playoffs. So out of the 12 teams in the playoffs there are only 3 teams don't have top 10 QB's. Now take the WR position. Only 5 of the playoff teams have top flight wide outs. Then go into the RB position, there are only 3 teams with top ten RB's.

This is a very strong case for the fact that having an elite QB is more important than any other position. Therefore taking one of the best QB's in the draft would yield the greatest positive impact on our team.

Me calling Clausen a top 10 pick was a hyperbole. I tried further explaining that to you in a few other posts. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I thought it was pretty clear the intent. Trust me, anybody thats been on this board when he was drafted knows exactly where Jimmy was expected to go and where he went. We've had many heated discussions on it.

Your absolutely right its a QB driven league, I would love to have an elite QB. But I wouldn't draft a QB that high that I dont have a strong conviction that he's gonna be elite. Mike Vick is the only ex option QB in the league with more than one year of experience that has had a taste of success. And he didn't taste much

I didn't need to be on a message board to know about drafts. I've been watching football since '86 as my main distraction from real life.

But I'm not worried about where message board people thought Jimmy Clausen was going to go. It matters what the GM's think, and I think Quinn is a better example of the point you were trying to make.

But if you don't like taking QB's that high, then who do you like taking that high? Defensive players tend to be safer bets where their contributions or lack there of can be hidden easier giving the impression that your picks are better than they are. Personally I think that's why Heckett has a history of taking D linemen in the 1st round. They are the easist to hide their flaws since cold hard numbers don't mean a whole lot for them.

Blackmon is not worth a top 5 pick, he's hardly worth a top 10 pick. Richardson would be a horrible pick seeing as how RB's are a dime a dozen, you don't take right tackles that high in the draft...this leaves us either QB or a defensive player. This is a deep draft for DE's and LB's, so taking one of them that high would be a waste seeing as how the drop off isn't that great from 4 to 22. And generally you don't take safeties that high. So this whole thing almost breaks down the Browns 4th round pick either being Claiborne or RG3. Anything else would be a waste.

Someone doesn't have much of a life. LOL I suggest a hobby, girlfriend, maybe a project, painting your parents basement you live in. Something to release all that anger you have. Or just make your life better so you're not an angry little person.

  • Jparsh, good point about Cam Newton and all the top QBs in the playoffs. How long have they been in the NFL? How long have they played on one team and had time to learn a systems? Do they have weapons? Does Cam Newton have 6 wins without the receivers he has??? RG3 sure did look good in all the games where 2 offenses scored 150 points combined. I wonder how he would've done this year against the steelers or ravens defense with our lackluster offense? Not to mention a new head coach, a new system to learn and lack of time to practice due to the lockout? bringing a new QB in every 2 years hasnt worked for how long now??? Eh....might as well keep it up until one year when the all stars align and hell freezes over we'll draft one that will be thrown into our garbage system with 0 talent and he'll win us a superbowl.

The two most important people to have in place for years on end are the GM and coach, in that order. You can switch up QB's and should keep switching them until you find the right guy. What sets you back further, keeping the wrong QB in place for a year longer than you felt like you should have or having a new QB come in until you get a guy that proves he's got the skills to be an elite guy in this league?

I don't know about Cam having 6 wins without his receivers, but I do know that his receivers don't have 6 wins without him. So we have cold hard facts we can deal with, why deal in hypotheticals when you don't have to?

I'm not the first person to disagree with your idiotic reasoning, and I sure won't be the last. Try not to get butthurt about it. Judging from your quick assumption that I am a teenager, my guess is you are one yourself. Late teens, maybe freshman in college. In other words, just putting on your big boy pants.

In the words of the ever famous Michael Clarke Duncan, "When you assume, you make an asshole out of yourself."

I'd take that $1,000 dollars now, but I wouldn't want to drain your life's savings.

As for your dismissive, "holier than thou" attitude...can it. You'll find that people will actually respect you in life if you're humble. But my guess is that's not the way you act in real life, you only strap on a set of nuts when you're talking to people through the internet. That's okay...you'll grow a pair one day. If you're lucky.

Furthermore, we will not be drafting RG3. RG3 will not have the same success as Cam Newton, and will be nothing more than Troy Smith 2.0.

    Thank you for playing.
