doesn't appear so....he started as a true freshman in '08.

It does appear so he is a Junior, i was just pointing out how you hate on him when you dont know if he is a Senior but your try to use that agasnt him when hes really not...

sigh...thats the difference between an academic senior and an athletic junior...

i suppose you know about his torn ACL his 2nd year? and that was the reason he redshirted? suppose i should use the athletic designation so i dont have to reply to frail little arguments like this.

  • Troy Smith ---RG3 same type player? Are their stats close to the same?

A guy throws for 4,300 yards and he's a running QB?

Graham Harrell threw for more than 4,500 yards three straight seasons, and couldn't crack our starting roster. What makes RG3 any different, honestly?

Contrary to the point I'm trying to make, look for Graham Harrell to be the next big free agent in 3 years. With Matt Flynn out of the picture, and Green Bay maybe possibly the closest thing to a "system" offense in the NFL, Harrell is in prime position.

Which begs the question, is Matt Flynn just a system QB?

The difference is huge. Harrell was no where near and mobile and dangerous with his feet, and more importantly Harrell's arm strength makes McCoy look like the strong man competition guys throwing kegs 100 feet into the air. The guy had drop throwing anything accurate past 10 yards, where as RGIII flixs accurate 50+ yard bombs down field with ease.

  • ...unless those superman socks of his can help him leap tall buildings in a single bound or fly downfield 10 yards above everyone on the defense, the smart money is on TR3NT or Blackmon. Colt and RG3 are the "same guy"...

  • How can Colt and RGIII be the same guy? I'm pretty sure Colt had more talent around him then RGIII did.

  • Oh yeah, Jordan Shipley.... So if we switched Kendall Wright with Jordan Shipley, what?!?

  • I'm pretty sure nobody was climbing over people to race to the booth to select Jordan Shipley with the #22 overall draft pick...

The point is "I" feel they are the same guy. I like Colt, our all pro Joe Thomas likes Colt and believes in him, so do I. The kid hasn't had a fair shake. Yes, it's a plan to draft RG3 and let him sit behind Colt for another year so that Colt gets his fair shot but then you've sacrificed a legit weapon skipping out on the #4 overall weapon. If you would give Colt a playmaker at #4 like a Richardson(run Hillis at FB) and a player like Wright at 22. Man, we'd have ourselves a team..

    Colt

Richardson - Fast, powerful, elusive back

Hillis - Powerful, punishing, elusively quick and agile big back

Cameron - Fast, big bodied pass catching TE with a great verticle

Moore - Big sure handed TE (Watson could split time with Moore)

Wright - A burner(supposedly, though we'll have to confirm it at the combine)

Little - A big target with YAC potential

Cribbs - A mix of both Wright and Little. Could be perfect in the slot flanked by the #1 and 2 WRs.

Colt could flourish with this kind of an offensive roster. We need players that will be healthy, be reliable on the field, catch the ball when it comes. We had 30+ DROPS! What are Colts stats with decent YAC on those catches? How many drives are extended if we make those grabs? How many more yard or touchdowns does Colt churn out if our players execute?... if the line protects?? C'mon man, RG3 would be AWESOME if we never had Colt. But we have a Franchise QB, and I'm tired of hearing that Colt can't do it. Hell, I call bullshit on that. He nearly beat NE, NO, and NY in a three week span last year...we our runningback wasn't Obgyn... Give Colt a couple weapons and I swear you'll see that we have our guy in Colt McCoy.

  • You think the overall talent on Baylor around RGIII was the same as the overall talent around Colt on Texas? TEXAS!

I'm not here to debate what we should do with our pick. I'm just saying RGIII and Colt are clearly not the same player.

  • Ricardson isnt worth the 4th pick, hes a hell of a back but not worth a top 5 pick ....

    You're right.

One was an established winner at every level.

The other has one year of stats to his name.

    They both suck.

Graham Harrell? Really? He's not one fifth the athlete Griffin is, Harrell wasn't even considered much of a pro prospect at all.

    Zombo

Bernie Kosar wasn't much of an athlete either.

    Akili Smith was.

Pick what side of him you want to endorse. When someone brings up the fact that he can run, you quote his passing numbers and say he's a passer. When I bring up someone with better numbers, you bring up the fact he can run.

We get it, you like RG3. I liked him too, back when he was known as Troy Smith.

He could turn out to be a fantastic player, sure. But I can guarantee nobody would be considering him with either of our first round picks if the Newton didn't have the success that he had last season. And that's why I'm against us taking him.

  • RGIII is an underrated passer though. A lot of people see a black QB that can run and want to say "Oh, he must only be able to run"

RGIII and Newton are definitely not the same player. If people want to paint over all running QBs like that then Denard has a shot at the top pick, right? What is he wins the Heisman? Maybe they'll think he's mini Newton? ???

I don't see that much of a difference between Denard and RG3, honestly.

The only difference is that Baylor played against much worse defenses, and that RG3 has a cannon for an arm. I've yet to see him throw to someone who wasn't wide open.

You're right, RG3 and Cam are not the same player. In college, Cam was asked to play against top of the line defenses and make all the sorts of NFL throws you'd like to see in a college player. RG3, on the other hand, played against only two top 50 defenses last season. He did, however, play against 8 defenses ranked in the bottom 30, including the worst defense in the FBS in Kansas. Against those teams, he had wide open receivers and more than ample enough time. In his "highlight reels", he's never shown throwing to a receiver who the defense even thought about covering.

  • don't see that much of a difference between Denard and RG3, honestly

    really? ..........

    really?!?

RGIII's passing ability is much better than Denard's. RGIII is a more complete passer. RGIII is going to get to be a QB in the NFL, Denard might... I'd be happy if the Browns drafted Denard to be Cribbs version 2.0

So you single out the only opinion in my statement and then counter it with your own set of opinions.

RG3 may be a better passer. I only say may. As I said before, his numbers were against weak defenses and his guys were nearly always wide open. He rarely has shown the ability to "throw a man open" or even consider throwing to a man who's even decently covered.

Let's not even consider the fact that his plays were fed to him at the line of scrimmage or that he's never played in a pro style offense, or that he's not used to taking snaps under center, reading defenses, and calling audibles. Let's forget that he's undersized for a guy of his skill set, and that he rarely got hit in college, which leads people to question his durability once he gets to the pro level. Let's not even consider the fact that he hasn't had a single highlight from a snow game, or that he might not even know how to throw a ball in windy December weather.

Not even considering those things, I still wouldn't draft him at 4.

He has tremendous athleticism, I will give him that. He also seems to be a stand-up guy, and a legitimate intellectual being. But, as I've said before, nobody would be considering him this high if it weren't for Cam...and that alone is enough for me to pass.

  • Those were all valid points.

I'm just amazed you though Denard and RGIII were the same.

I honestly do. I think RG3 has a much bigger arm, and doesn't tend to run as much.

If Denard's receivers were as wide-open as RG3's were even half the time, there'd be a completely difference discussion going on.

People are so quick to shit on Matt Flynn, saying he's only in a good system and that's the reason he put up those good numbers. When RG3 got knocked out in the Texas Tech game, his backup came in and threw for more yards in half a quarter than RG3 did in the entire first half. The backup QB ended up going 9 for 12 for 151 yards, 2 TD's and a rushing TD in one half.

To me, that sounds like a system.

Edit: ^ that's supposed to be a Browns jersey with the name Robinson and the number 16 on the back...

I think we all want to see that right?

So don't draft a QB. Draft a bunch of pieces for Colt. Honestly the thought is getting RGIII sounds really exciting, and I think that is clouding people's judgement. That doesn't mean it couldn't work, but that "wow" factor helps RGIIIs case. I'll be just as happy landing some big name WR in FA though or having a fantastic draft. We'll see how this plays out, but it seems like the Browns can't lose here. There will be a good option no matter what happens.
