Gipper, all teh criticisms you make of our poor performance you could have said about the Browns team that Sipe took over.

Yet, with the same exact team, just a change of QB, EVERYONE raised their level of play.

Players play to the level that they believe in their QB. The diffeence between winning and losing in close competitions is passion.

This is one we won't have to wait long to see a resolution to. I am that convinced that McCoy to Weeden, with the addition of Richardson, will make every difference in teh play of the rest of the team.

    Shurmur isn't the problem.

Except, if you remember, coaching was a problem then also. When Sipe took over it also corresponded with when Rutigliano took over.

So, to my view, it is an equal problem. Maybe a great QB can get this team to play better...maybe not if the coaching is lousy.

I am hoping you are right....that Shurmur isn't the problem.....because we are stuck with him.

I am hoping he is the reincarnation of Bill Walsh.

But my reservation of judgment is well justified. And I believe nearly everyone here will agree with that.

Dude....i was enjoying reading this up until the point where you said....for the umpteenth time....that richardson is the #1 RB in the NFL.

Florio's point was, who gives a shit even if Richardson is the #1 RB in the NFL. Where did that get the Vikings, the Jaguars, or the Titans the past few years? RB is a dime a dozen position, and why you don't waste a top 5 pick on one.

OK, you make a certain point. A good RB cannot make a team good. But, not having a good RB can make a team bad.

I also think with the Vikings/Jags/Titans several other components of those teams fell off to cause their records to fall off. Like their defenses etc.

  • The Browns defense held up last year for its schemes and was in the top 5 for along time and a def top 10 easily, to have the browns dead last at 32 based on our defensive ratings and play last year i don't wanna read your preseason ratings.

Browns realistically could be 22-24 atm buw not dead fucking last. You don't gotta bring up the Jags, Dolphins, Rams, Cardinals, Vikings, Colts, Redskins, and Bucs each of those teams i could argue did not improve as much as the Browns did in post draft/fa/S.draft.

When you are that far at the bottom of the barrel, does it really matter exactly how deep? All those teams, including the Browns, are terrible in their own special way. Maybe this year will prove different. I certainly hope so.

  • I LIKE being ranked #32. I want the lowest expectations possible, because they don't mean a thing. And I want the players to be driven.

The media doesn't put a lot of thought into this. We've got a historically bad (recent history) 4-12 team that ended the season on a long losing streak had no free agent splash and is starting a rookie QB ... Boom! #32

    Doesn't mean a fucking thing.

I remember the 80's when both the Browns and the Indians were on the cover of Sports Illustrated as the favorites to win it all in the same year ... The Browns lost in excruciatingly heartbreaking fashion and the Indians lost 100 games.

Pick me last so I can embarrass 31 different teams on my way to the top.

    2 things....

one.....that top 10 D wasn't tested, and only top 10 because we were giving up 200 yards rushing and 100 passing.....or more specifically, teams had us beat at halftime because we couldn't score. there is a correlation, but this isn't to say the pass D is a complete myth. we held team to a low number of yards, in part to teams not needing to score on us. considering the list of poor passers we played last year, i think youre a bit overboard in considering our D top 10. if you dig deeper into the ranking stats, our D is good in some areas and weak in others.

you cant argue we improved more....because those players youre evaluating haven't played yet. the jags got blackmon, skins rgiii, colts luck.......so just how are you quantifying you anger? youre really saying we SHOULD improve more based on how our rookies SHOULD preform.....but lets not be foolish enough to assume that what exists on paper exists in reality. what if weedz is DA bad? obviously, we all have the O&B glasses on and dont wanna consider that....but its certainly a possibility.

much like you thought we were a guaranteed 11-5 team last year.....and emotional prediction. we overhauled the offense in a single year....yes.....with rookies. if youre expecting this offense to take the league by storm, then youre simply making the same mistake you made last year. keep it realistic....theyre gonna struggle, theyre gonna make some great plays, it'll be a rollercoaster season by all indications. 3 rookies at 3 key positions....not exactly a guaranteed successful formula.

  • If you all recall, I too go by a certain method of "Power Rankings".....called The Standings.

You are what your record is, no more, no less. When this team starts playing games, then we can talk about where they rate by looking at the records.

Maybe because the Steelers franchise model is something that is and should be respected? How often do you guys make the playoffs? How many Super Bowls have you been to in the last decade? How many have you won? The Ravens may have won the division, but in my opinion, the franchise is not quite at the dominant level that the Steelers have been for years. I know you're a troll, but this shouldn't surprise you.

our defense will be better this year? really? without one of our best DLmen? you are high.

we had a weaker schedule last year and only won 4 fucking games. you must 'represent' dumbasses. we'll be lucky to win 7 games and that's all dependent on the play of our highly touted strong armed old rookie qb and if TR was worth the 3rd pick and future picks. they ain't seen nothing in their past that can get them ready for our division foe's defenses.

  • The Browns offense has improved greatly. Whether or not that improvement will translate to our W/L record remains to be seen.

I like using next year's second on Gordon: the only way we'd get a better WR is to use our #1 next year on this position for Keenan Allen or Robert Woods. So with that 2013 first-round pick we're free to take one of the DE's to pair with Sheard.

I also think Trevin Wade will earn playing time this year at slot CB.

on paper we have. we added the number one RB prospect in the draft, the 4th best QB prospect, a RG and who else?

so i guess little is our #1 receiver? then momass. then who? noone else has done diddly squat. our FB is a question mark. our tight ends (besides watson) are suspect,

sure our left side of the OL is great but adding three players does not make a team.

we'll be lucky to win 6 games but i'm leaning more towards 5.

I've got my money on these 21 players to figure it out. I see a lot of potential and firepower in this group. I think this offense matches up very well with just about any offense in the league IMO.

With Brandon and Colt we've got ourselves a good problem. If Weeden struggles then Colt can step in and take the load and allow Weeden to learn. In our Line I see a WALL ||||| In our runningbacks I'm interested in who will be backing up Richardson, as I'm sure Trent will storm the league and cause MASS SHOCK AND AWE! I love our group of TEs! I really, really like our young WRs, I'm so glad that we decided to forgo the veterans and build with potential young superstars. This group plus Smelley puts our offense in as a VERY young group that will grow together and gell in time to be a dominating force for years to come.

i love the fact that we're young and can grow together but half those guys on the list wouldn't make the practice squad on most other teams. i'm talking top line quality players who make pro bowls. this team there is thomas, mack, haden, and maybe ward if he's healthy. TR could be if he's not a bust. who knows about weeden. i wonder if he'd be getting up off the field as fast massaqua and mccoy did after getting leveled by harrison? hell, i'm fifty and wouldn't think to do today physically what i could do when i was 22. age does make a difference. and if our OL doesn't gell right away i don't see TR having a 2,000 yard year or weeden staying healthy the whole season. smelley ain't no marecjic who ain't no vickers. just ask hillis.
