Top 30 Qbs

  • Playing quarterback. Not sure what those numbers are....but I will trust my eyes.

Your eyes thought Colt McCoy was taller than 6'1.

Those numbers are career completions, attempts, yards, completion pct. yards per att., touchdowns, interceptions and quarterback rating.

    They all favor Wallace.

I don't mind an athletic veteran backup that is 5'11.

I can't stomach a weak armed, slow thinking starter that is 6'1.

If you think McCoy would be a more suitable backup than Wallace you are entitled to your opinion.

I don't think McCoy adds much value to the equation at all. I keep the athletic veteran that has been in the system forever to backup the Weedster and develop a third young guy (with a real arm) to assume the backup mantle.

Wallace has been in the league 10 years, McCoy 2. In 2 years McCoy accomplished what Wallace did in 10.

I don't mind an athletic veteran backup that is 5'11.

I can't stomach a weak armed, slow thinking starter that is 6'1.

I think Wallace has a millisecond more speed than MCoy, beyond that I don't see anything in Wallace that says he has a stronger arm or is faster thinking than McCoy.

In essence, he has all the attributes of McCoy, execept he is a full 2 inches shorter.

If you think McCoy would be a more suitable backup than Wallace you are entitled to your opinion.

Wallace may....or should have the mindset that tells him that he is a backup. McCoy may not yet have that mindset. That is perhaps the only thing Wallace has....a resignation to the fact that he is a scrub....that McCoy may not yet have.

I don't think McCoy adds much value to the equation at all. I keep the athletic veteran that has been in the system forever to backup the Weedster and develop a third young guy (with a real arm) to assume the backup mantle.

I think Wallace adds less value to the equation, from a football standpoint, paritularly when added to his outlook. He detracts a lot in my opinion from the attitude standpoint.

I understand that it might be politically correct for Colt to not be here, having been pushed aside as a starter by the guy he must now backup.

As far as I am concerned if we are to get rid of one, we should get rid of both. In that event I think we need a quality veteran backup (and that ain't Wallace) AND another younger guy to play 3rd string.

  • fully agree Z. QB's that cant throw arent really QB's....they're accountants and car salemen.

this entire offseason has been funny.....many colt loyalists throwing the other 10 members of the O under the bus for anything less than perfect play, while ignoring just how less than adequate colt was. its not about logic bro...just emotion. its everywhere.....arguments for colt are not "he's a great QB", rather its "he's got heart and he's young".

unfortunately....those traits dont win football games. an NFL arm, however, does.

    colt sucks....

    colt sucks....

...and Wallace sucks worse...or is that he sucks more? TF.

  • There is no doubt that Wallace is a better runner than McCoy and has a stronger arm. Those are absolutes.

I don't think either are particularily swift-thinking quarterbacks.

They are both backup fodder, but Wallace is the better player.

  • I would just add that Wallace is in his early 30s and Colt is just entering his prime. In 2 seasons Colt will be far superior to Wallace in every tangible and intangibe catergory. Colt wins this argument hands down.

... I get it, for The Weed to work out he must start early and accel early. He's got a lot of ground to make up from other rookies starting in their early 20s. He has some advantages though that make him intriguing however, such as his early career in Baseball, his strong arm and ability to knock clay pigeons out of the air! I like A lot about Weeden. When we talked about him in the offseason I dissed him for his age. I then went on to watch Grudens QB Camp featuring him and then to watch some film as well. I often found myself feeling that Blackmon was the one making the plays but he can't make the plays if the QB doesn't get him the ball. So that's some credit to him there. He got his playmakers the ball and allowed them to do their thing. I hope he does the same in Cleveland.

None the less, I apoligized for knocking the guy and wished him well. That is what I wish him now but I still haven't given up on Colt, yet.

  • Ron Jaworski is doing his Top 30 NFL QBs. I believe the Final List will look like this:

    1. Rodgers

    2. Brees

    3. Brady

    4. P. Manning

    5. E. Manning

    6. Roethlisberger

    7. Rivers

    8. Cutler

    9. Flacco

    10. Romo

    11. Ryan

    12. Vick

    13. Schaub

    14. Stafford

    15. Newton

    16. Alex Smith

    18. Hasselback

    19. Dalton

    20. Bradford

    21. Carson Palmer

    22. Cassell

    23. Sanchez

    24. Fitzpatrick

    25. Kolb

    26. Matt Moore

    27. Flynn

    28. Ponder

    29. Gabbert

    30. Tebow

The question is: who are overrated/underrated in your opinion?

Note: The Colts/Browns/Redskins did not have a QB ranked because it is believed that all three teams will have a rookie at starting QB. The Jets got 2 QBs probably because of A. the fact that Tebow was a starter last year and B. the fact that they are Tebow suckasses and just want to play up his hype.

(Ghoolie: note, with these past 2 posts I am trying to get some football discussion going)

    "Fixt"

    1. Whoever thinks brees isn't number one right now can just not post anymore, HE BROKE THE ALL TIME FUCKING RECORDS last year hey u remember Marino? oh ya he past em to be number 1 on the list in HISTORY and your trying to tell me he isn't the best QB in the league... heres a crackpipe smoke on it little more.

    2. Brady's History speaks for itself he is a monster season in and out.

    3. Rodgers lands here currently in the future he has the ability to surpass the others but TODAY he is number 3.

    4. Eli said he was a Dawg and got punished in the media... he wins the superbowl the same year for his 2nd ring and shut up the critics if he stays on course and wins another one he would be on a whole different category of best.

    5. Big Ben does what he does it might be ugly but he is a baller i can't deny him his due.

Fitzpatrick was slighted and rated way too low.

  • OK, you are officially the only person on earth that thinks Colt McCoy has a stronger arm than Seneca Wallace. Including Colt's mom. Nothing wrong with that.

As for the running thing ... remember the time Colt did this?

McCoy, isn't too bad at running either Z. I am happy with Weeden as starting QB, I just think McCoy would fill the backup role better if Weeden went down, and so long as he is happy with knowing that is his role, I would like to see Wallace put out to pasture.

Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russell, etc. etc. had bazooka arms. It didn't make them good QBs.

I am not sure how you would measure arm strength between Wallace and McCoy. Suffice it to say I would still rather have McCoy as my QB than Wallace.

But...yet again, I repeat my position: I would at this point advocate that neither be a member of the Cleveland Browns. Bring in Donovan McNabb to be a backup, then bring in a young 3rd string QB....or pick up Troy Smith, whatever

  • brees is rated too high. yes he's tough and talented BUT let's see him play in our division in december.

i'd like to see what his numbers are playing outside instead on inside that cushy little dome of his. no wind effect, no snow or rain.....GTFO.

    my top five would be

    1.rodgers

    2. brady

    3. eli manning

    4. roethlisberger

    5. brees

i would have put peyton manning ahead of brees his health is a big ? mark for me.

    1,2 Brady and Brees interchangeable

    3. Rogers

    4 Roethlisberger

Eli is too high at five and Peyton is too risky

Culter should be about 20 he can blow a big game every time

I say keep all three for now. Wallace and Colt were successful in college, so that may translate. Both have been victims of playing for shit especially Colt with the crap surrounding him. Of course unless we get an offer we cannot refuse

    Hello Kasko

    How are you?

Reds are doing well this season. What say you?

The issue with McNabb and the Redskins was the fact that he had a bad attitude in that he was unwilling to accept the fact that he was no longer a premiere starting QB in this league.

I think now he has clearly gotten that message and I think he MUST now know that the only way he can even have a job in this league is if he plays the mentor/backup role. If he accepts that proposition....and with his knowledge of the Shurmur offense (whom, after all, he played under in Philly for years), he might make a decent mentor/backup QB.

  • I think Romo and Flacco are vastly overrated...I happen to think they both suck!

I gotta disagree with you Gip (and not just because of what happened in Washington).

McNabb is a quarterback who has WAY too high of an opinion of himself. He didn't want to wear a wristband during the game - thought he was too good for that (nevermind that Manning and Brady both wear them). He considers himself too good to practice any new schemes/ideas/anything and doesn't want to put in the work. His time in Minnesota under a scheme that was supposed to "fit his talents" was more of a bust than his time in Washington. He had the opportunity to be a mentor/backup QB to Ponder, and by all accounts wanted no part of that.

Even if he does know that the only chance at a job is as a backup, he's too prideful to lower himself to that role. He essentially said as much earlier in the offseason - that he's "looking at some teams" to sign with them, because "some team is going to have an injury or something, and the phone will be ringing."

  • I think Romo and Flacco are vastly overrated...I happen to think they both suck!

    @nickers said:

Romo does choke in big games....but seems to have a lot of big games in regular season.

In fairness to Flacco, if Lee Evans doesn't drop that TD pass, Flacco has his team in the SB last year.

That's not a catch. The issue here is the "process of the catch" question. It's like if the ball gets jarred out after the receiver falls to the ground it's incomplete. Ball got knocked out before he had a chance to complete the catch.

Under the new rules, yes, I think you are right. Under older rules, if a WR had control of the ball and had two feet on the ground, it was a catch. But they have changed the rule.
