  • I'm with you all the way hoorta. Normally I am vehemently opposed to firing head coaches in the middle of the season, but this is getting really ugly really quick. Fire this bum, bring Chilly down to the field, and pray we squeak out a win or two. I can't keep hoping against hope that Shurmur is going to magically turn into a competent coach. The guy is in way over his head, IMO.

4-17 with a current 11 game losing streak. He is what he is. No magic is going to help him

  • Sorry for my venting- but this sorry ass excuse of a HC we have couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. I'll even spot you our D couldn't touch Eli all day, and the defense fell apart.

So the KNR lackeys were even giving Shurmur a Mulligan on probably the dumbest call on a third and one in the last 10 years.

Q: What would you do differently?

    1) Not take Richardson out on third down-ever.

    2) Not throw 3 yard slant patterns on third and 5.

    3) Boy Nice bomb from rocket arm Weeden to Gordon. Did we ever try another one?

0 fer 11. Would you guys like to see 0-16 this year? Hows that for continuity? If we can't beat the Colts or Chiefs, take that one to the bank. Firing Shurmur is addition by subtraction in my book. You can get a Pop Warner guy to call a better game.

Up 14-0 faint (false) hope. If Haslam's first act as owner isn't to fire this bum (worst Browns coach in the last 40 years IMHO) I'll be pissed.

Agree...I would have fired Shurmer after last year's Arizona debacle. Remember, we were 4-9, clinched last place, and he punted with a 10-0 lead when it was 4th & 2 at the AZ 47 yd line.

I don't get why all of our 3rd down plays look the same.

    Best....Avitar.....Ever

I really am sick of people getting on Weeden, I think half of his picks are coaching mistakes. Today was the first pick I saw where he know he fucked up.

    LOL, I remember that.

Yes every 3rd down play is the pull the tight end to the right to the sideline while Weeden gets crushed or pressured. You pull Richardson for a 3rd and 1, WTF. Pure shit.

Lol...someday we will be the happiest fans on Earth. I hope it's soon, tired of waiting.

  • I hope he's gone before I learn to spell his name right.

  • You won't have to deal with him next season. Possibly even past this month.

We have the Bengals next week, then the Colts, then the Chargers.

We lose all of those, Shurmer is replaced for the Ravens game. There might even be a chance Shurmer doesn't make it to the Chargers game if we look really bad in losing to the Bengals and Colts.

Haslam gets official ownership after this next weekend, if the voting takes place as reported, so he can comment at that point.

I agree. Shurmur only saves his job with a playoff trip this year which clearly won't happen. He can make the end of the season if we win a few games. But an 11 game losing streak is going to be noticed by the new owner. We get blown out at home by Cincinatti, I don't think he makes it to the Colts game. The new owner is going to want to make an impression on the fans and he wants his own people in place.

  • Maybe that as well.

    Wouldn't bother me.

I wonder if a coach has been fired at halftime of a game. 😉

  • Shurmur is in way over his head! I almost feel bad for the guy. My theory, is that Holmgren brought this guy in because of his previous association with Fritz Shurmur, Pat's uncle. It's almost as if he was doing his late friend a favor. I mean God forbid that Holmgren look past his big fat ego, and actually bring in an experienced head coach! 😠 If that truly is the case which I may suspect, then Holmgren is doing a huge disservice to Pat by putting him in this situation, and his fat ass should shown the door as well! Though I think Holmgren will be gone anyway.

I don't think it's ever happened but it's unfortunate that Haslam doesn't take over before the Bengals game because then it could happen if we lay an egg in the first half and the team gets booed off the field.

Oh I'm fully expecting them to get booed off of the field! If anyone is even left by halftime. What a mess!

you don't have to wonder when this will be................it's every year for the draft.

you remember, don't you? you guys pick in the top 5-10 spots and start cheering and touting how this new messiah will be the one to lead you guys to the promised land.

i mean that's what happened after you drafted trich and brandon "father time" weeden..........how'd that work out so far?0-5?

  • I like our chances against the Bengals , I think we'll get our first win.

I would say Richardson and Weeden aren't the problem. See my initial post. You have a running back averaging 5 ypc, so you take him out of the game on third and one so you can call a pass play- out of an obvious passing formation- that gets picked off.

Defensively in that game Jackson (who calls the defensive signals) got hurt- hence a couple of Cruz TDs where the cornerback wasn't even in the same area code. Ditto Rubin going out with and injury = 200 yards given up rushing.

  • I am not the hugest Shurmur fan but yesterday is not on him. Weeden didn't play well and the Browns have the worst DBs in the league. You subtract Jackson from the mix and that's trouble. If Trent continues to drop passes you'll continue to see Obi on 3rd down...

These guys are rookies. Let's look at the Browns first round picks lately:

This year Weeden and TR look to be wise choices. TR is the real thing, too soon to tell about BW#

Last year: Phil Taylor was one of the best rookie defenders in the league (the Browns miss him since his is out with injury).

The year before that 2010 Joe Haden is a Pro Bowler.

The year before that 2009 Alex Mack is a Pro Bowler

In 2008 they didn't have a pick til the 4th round

The year before 2007, Joe Thomas is Hall of Fame talent. OK, Brady Quinn was a bust.

The problem has not been with their first rounders..except Quinn. It has been that their 2e and 3rd rounders have a lot of time not stood up to provide the talent...or depth necessary:

2012 Rd. 2 Schwartz too early

2011 Rd. 2 Sheard and Little. Sheard is productive. Little's dropsies are well noted. Not looking good for him

2010 Rd. 2 TJ Ward, start Rd. 3 Hardesty, McCoy, Lauvao....all possible backup talent at best

    2009 Rd. 2 Robiskie...bust, MoMass...becoming solid, David Veikune...bust

    2008-----

2007 Eric Wright. Got toasted here, went to Detroit as FA where he got burnt.

He dropped one pass in the game that I saw. This entire season is on Shurmur. The guy is a lousy head coach and should never have been hired..

That's why we need a BETTER GM. Most GM's hit the first rounders.(if they don't they are not around long) It's the "GREAT" GM's that get high quality talent later in the draft. The body of the good teams are 3-6 round picks.
