Haslem Reiterates His Desire For New Stadium!

I thought we were stupid not to put a dome on our home... Or at least a retractable one. I understand that playing football in the snow can be fun, but let's be honest, we won't see a Superbowl here, and we have all that real estate not being used during the off season because it has no roof. Really was a bad idea IMO. Think about it, some are willing to go see a bad team play in comfortable conditions. Some are not going to see a bad team play in crappy 10 degree weather. Something to think about.
another dumb response from a child. sure they could use the stadium for other events in the winter. but what events are that huge that come to cleveland as a venue?
put a roof on the stadium and you give up our home field advantage. packers have a dome? giants? patriots?

What advantage do you speak of?
We haven't won a championship in 48 years and have had a pretty crappy team for the last 12 years.
Again, what advantage are you talking about??
Sorry Mick....I always try to be respectful and thoughtful in my replies unless responding to total crap, but I don't think you have given your reply adequate thought.
Heck....Red Right 88 would have never been called had the field not been frozen solid.
I'd say that advantage worked entirely in favor of the Raiders.

if you want to be known as a pussy team then by all means you flamers spend your tax money and pass a bunch of legislature to have a new stadium built so that when we bring in the steelers or ravens in late december we'll make sure we have the heat on for them.
fucking dubasses.
so colts won one. saints one. rams one. and the rest of the teams you mentioned (although 2 of the best teams THIS year) have done dick yet.
so we'll be the first team in our division to go gay? out of the past ten years who has more super bowls? the teams that play under a roof or the teams that don't.
thank you very much, now you can shut the fuck up.
u didn't have to get mad about it lol its just a dome
u didn't have to get mad about it lol its just a dome
really wasn't wanting to. it's just all this bullshit talk RIGHT NOW about things like stadiums and uniforms instead of looking at how haslam is going to form his FO, who he'll keep on the coaching staff, what direction and style of football will he want/demand to be played in cleveland.
our history is so deep that putting a roof on any stadium we play in on the coast of lake erie is sacreligous. do you think the packers will EVER put a dome on lambeau field or the bears on soldier stadium?
well i feel we are in that same stock of historic football franchises and to have a bunch of homos come in the day the new ownership took over and ask about uniforms and stadiums is fucking insane.
how about worrying if we last another decade? how about what you think will happen if we go 4 and 12 this year? not about brown pms 345 layered with brown pms 354 go together and make a nice looking jersey.

i agree with that. but you give me that game with those same circumstances and 9 times out of 10 we win that game.
ask parcells, shanahan, buddy ryan and others about home field advantage when it comes to having swirling winds and doors that can be opened and closed depending on the circumstances.
i'd love to see atlanta come and play here in december when we are more evenly matched and see how they can play on a sunday night on the shores of lake erie.
goners.

I'm happy with bringing money into Cleveland with events like concerts, college basketball tournaments, maybe a bowl game(not sure if NFL stadiums do bowl games but I heard it brought up on the radio).

Chill out one the potential Super Bowl talk with a Dome. One of the stipulations is the city have a bazillion hotel rooms available for the event.
So tell me how many of these major "events" in Indy couldn't go on outdoors? Lucas Oil Events Really, that city is unchanged after their SB.
Ford Field is nice- it's also for pussies.

So from here on out..every topic in this forum needs to have your approval to talk about, got it. I'll make sure to go through my check list first before giving my OPINION.

For out of towners who only come to Cleveland to see Football games a few times a year, I can understand their reasoning for not putting on a dome. But for someone who lives in a suburb of Cleveland, I think it would be a great idea. I believe it would attract a lot more revenue for the city such as concerts, bowl games, and possibly a Super Bowl. When you drive by the cold, empty hulk of a stadium during the winter and just see it sitting there useless, you have to wonder if something could be done to put it to use during the off season. And since I actually contributed to the construction costs thru paying taxes, I believe my opinion does matter here.

Can't we all just get along? We should close this thread with a big group hug... lol

FROM SBNATION:
"We've been very public in Cleveland that we're going to look at everything, except the helmet tone," Haslam said. "We do want to enhance the stadium to make a great experience for the fans. What that looks like, I don't know. I'm not a stadium guy. We're going to look at it, because it's all about the fans."
Haslam has been clear about his desire to fix up the stadium. In August, he discussed the stadium with the Cleveland City Council. An offhand remark about putting a dome over the facility sparked a small tsunami of shock.
First, great move by the new owner. It's time to take out the trash. You really need a new city (Like maybe Erie or Youngstown or Akron), a new stadium, new uniforms, new helmets, new coaches, new everything, and yes, a new mentality from the fans. No, I'm not joking. Now that you have a great owner for the new Browns, you must admit what the old Browns (the Ratbirds) did.....Pittsburgh is the organization you want to be like. The sooner the fans accept it, the better you will be. The Steelers lead, and now you will follow. I can't wait.
Think about it this way....The Steelers, The Old Browns(Rats), and The NEW Browns now being competitiive at the same time??? Awesome, just awesome. Follow your owner, and he will lead. He was taught by the best.

Stupid is as stupid does. And your stupid does. The first 95 things needed out of a list of 100 things is:
A winning team.
Now just repeat that 94 more times.
The mentality of the fans is top notch. It is the team's on field performance that has not been top notch for 20 years.
And, by the way, the "dome" for the stadium would NOT be for the benefit of the Browns at all. for the 10 games played there per year the current conditions would be fine. (maybe a few attractions...like a better scoreboard...would be good). That dome would be to make the stadium more utilitarian for the other 354 days of the year.

If we build a dome, we would get things like:
NCAA Basketball Championships.
UFC Fight (although I suppose the Cav's home could do that)
New Bowl Game
High School Championships (assuming Columbus no longer wants them)
Olympics potential
Track and Field Championships
Concerts
But without a dome, you can't even TRY to lure these types of things.

Ok Thaak, you live in Minnesota. Care to tell me how many of those events that Dome up there has attracted to date?
PS, the ones in red you can still hold those in a non-domed facility. Concerts are warm weather, of course. Cleveland could make a push for some HS Championship games, Toledo played OSU in CBS not that long ago.
-
Why don't they just use the dome for concerts and all other events and no dome for football if it's retractable? And if a superbowl were ever in Cleveland they would use the roof for it.
seems to be the most fair solution, but I wonder if the current stadium can even support the weight of a retractable roof safely, that's up to the architects, but I really wouldn't want that damn thing to fall off as I'm pretty sure the current stadium was never designed with a dome or roof in mind.
-
why don't they have concerts at the stadium? i remember some of the best concerts ever played at the old muni. you are talking a LARGE venue. aren't there the smaller stadiums/theaters to house the smaller venues? what they can't play at gund arena or csu?
as far as anyone ever considering cleveland as the home of the olympics that thought is absurd. we already have the venue for ncaa tournaments and it's held in columbus @ osu. what's wrong with that?

This outfit has already said the stadium isn't designed to hold a roof....thus the geodesic concept. I don't think you could design that to open and close at will. It basically leans on itself for great strength. It doesn't work if you start removing parts.
As for leaving it open for football all year, even if they could, they wouldn't.
First, I think the league has rules on how teams can handle when roofs are open and aren't. I believe the refs and or NFL have control over that decision.
Second, I and the vast majority would be totally ticked to be sitting in the rain or brutal cold because some idiot decided to keep the roof open. Especially since you wouldn't come prepared for that.
It would be wonderful knowing the temp wasn't going above 73 or dropping below 60.
I doubt you let your house, while watching the game, hover at 90 or drop to 29 or lower for the 3 hours you watch.

Who is being the child?
Home field advantage? I hope you are joking. I challenge you to name one team that we've had since 1999 that was dominant because we are an outdoor team? How about one player that was dominant because we are an outdoor team?
You are wondering about a huge event that would come to Cleveland? How about the Superbowl? They don't get much bigger than that.
-
This notion that we would lose our home field advantage because of a dome got me wondering. Are we a dominant team downtown in December (or January)?
Since 1999, we are 7-21 at the Stadium in December. Now that's one kick-ass cold weather team. Who has beat us? Probably a bunch of other cold weather teams. Right? Wrong. 4 of those losses were to Florida teams, 5 of those losses were to dome teams, and 2 were to the Chargers.
