Coach after Coach after Coach...
how many is that now...5 or 6 since the Browns came back in 2000. they all suck*d... How many GM's they all sucked..
now there may be a chance with new ownership and J Bann, so now is the time (and I can wait till after this 3-13 debacle of a year). Please can someone in this organization take a signed blank check and stick in in Bill Cowher's pocket..There is absoutley no fire or desire in this franchise at all....If you get a high profile coach and do have a decent draft, somehow this can get turned around and the expectations rise overnight...
JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with Ghoolie. Not only that, the odds of Cower actually taking the Browns job would be infinitesimally small.
Jon Gruden has far more connections to Cleveland- grew up In Sandusky, and his dad is a huge Browns fan. No for the same reason. Ditto Andy Reid if he gets fired.
Hell no to Norv Turner.

Doesn't Cowher live in Strongsville?
Idk, I want a guy whose gonna coach our young players up, show guts and not hold our players back.
I feel if Gruden or Cowher wanted to coach, they would have come back by now. And not many coaches have won a superbowl with two different teams.

Cowher live in Strongsville? Where the hell did you hear that. That was a bullshit rumor spread on here a few years back. He lives in NC and NYC. He ain't coming here, and I wouldn't want a retread anyway.

where do you get this from the thread??????
Dude.. have you followed football?
you responded to z's post with the smart-assed "then who rich kotite" meaning either you want cowher or some other ex-coach. no cowher's not coming back, nor is gruden.
so tell me: "WHAT WOULD YOU DO?" seriously.

Yes i was being sarcastic... about Zombo saying let's start another gay thread about a former coach. I couldnt have thought of a gayer coach than Rich Kotite.. Ok maybe Ray Handley.
I do not want any former coaches like GAYBOY Gruden or Cowher.
Seriously.. I would fire everyone on the coaching staff.. A new head coach will want to bring in his own coaches. Being how young we are and being how many pieces we are missing it wont be a big impact. Banner and Haslam both have repeated that if they make a change, it would be the last change for a while. And it wont be the 55 year plan we are currently on..

Actually, There has NEVER been a coach who has won a super bowl with two different teams.
Just say no to Gruden and Cowher. Find the next young Cowher or Gruden and build on that with the young players on the team. Josh McDaniels is still someone who I think is an interesting choice.

the guy coached for 16 years? and won 1 superbowl. Doesn't seem that great to me.
To put things in perspective: Since the merger, there have been a total of 316 head coaches with every team having at least 8 head coaches with the exception of the Steelers and 5 expansion teams (Ravens, Texans, Jags, Panthers, Texans). Less than 30 percent of those coaches have posted a winning record.
Cowher coached for 15 (not 16 seasons). During his tenure, no team in the league won more games and only 14 coaches have more wins who coached in the Modern Era. In the post season, Cowher and Tom Coughlin have 12 wins, a number surpassed by only 6 coaches (Belichick, Landry, Noll, Shula, Gibbs and Holmgren).
Perspective:
316 Head Coaches since 1970 and out of the 46 Super Bowls, only 13 Head Coaches have multiple Super Bowl wins - and 15 Head Coaches have "ONLY" 1 Super Bowl win.
Curious, if that isn't "that great" to you, what would be?
If Cowher led the Browns to 161 wins, 10 playoff appearances, 8 Division titles, 2 AFC Championships and a Super Bowl - would you consider that to be "not that great"?

Thanks for the detailed reply, that is why I asked the question, dickbag. IF we are going to dig up a has-been to coach the Browns, that person better have a near perfect track record and still be motivated to prove it. Cowher is done.

The concept of hiring the "failed" coach at his first job is intriguing. Several "failed" coaches have gone on to success in their subsequent gig. "Failed can mean simply: didn't win a title.
Now, a couple of examples cannot be said to have been failures...except that they didn't win a title in their first gig: Don Shula and Tony Dungy, Dick Vermeil Maybe someone like that.
The first time failures include the likes of Bill Belichick (Browns), Tom Coughlin(Jags)..though he may better fit in the above example...Gruden (Raiders), Mike Shanahan (Raiders).
The Browns tried this somewhat with Mangini....and but for the change at the top and Holmgren wanting to bring in a guy who knew how to run his system (does Shurmur really know how to do that) it may have worked.
Its why a guy like Nick Saban is so intriguing. Obviously he knows how to be successful....as a college HC and an NFL DC...just not as an NFL HC...yet.
Why do I have no doubt that he would be so much better in a second go round in the NFL?
-
Here is a list of coaches who were one time SB losers who could possibly win a second time around with either a new team or the same team:
Best chance this year: John Fox. Has Broncos in division lead with a weak remaining schedule. Has Peyton Manning.
Lovie Smith. Has one of the best defenses and a healthy QB..who also is viewed as a problem child despite great talent.
Ken Whisenhunt. His team seems to be fading. Could he be phased out in AZ? (If he is, I think HE would be a hot prospect for a new gig. He is the first guy in 60 years to overcome the Cardinal curse).
Jeff Fisher. It won't happen this year, but in the next couple of years he could have the Rams contending.
-
Why would anyone want Nick Saban? Sure he has a lot of experience but HE QUIT ON MIAMI TO COACH ALABAMA - HE QUIT.
It wasn't that he was unsuccessful and not wanted there, he bolted out of the back door in the middle of the night and they were sitting in the coaches meeting wondering where's Nick? Oh he quit.
On top of that he'd be 64 by the beginning of the 2013 season anyways.
-
I agree on Saban. I think he's too old to make a move like that and him quitting on the Dolphins is inexcusable to me.
Of the candidates of guys who have NFL experience but without winning at title, McDaniels is the best name out there. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Mangini back either. I think the team was on the right track and Holmgren wanted his own guy but I don't think there's any chance he comes back here. It wouldn't shock me to hear him getting a job somewhere though and being successful.

The subject of the top names for coaching positions was the topic of discussion Tuesday on Sirius NFL and they summarized it well.
Today's NFL organizations, with the exception of a handful, are dysfunctional to a large degree.....they simply don't have a plan in place which will result in a solid organization. There are a handful at the top which get it, there is a handful at the bottom which will never get it, and there is a bunch in the middle who seem to be stagnant. This was sighted as the reason the Grudens and Cowhers haven't jumped back in to the fray. They know what it takes and nobody is offering a solid solution.
Take a wild ass guess at where the Browns fall? It ain't happnin!
As a Browns fan, I hope Haslam can reintroduce some "functionality" into the Browns Front Office.
Everyone with two communicating neurons know Shur-loss' days are numbered with the Browns. He'd have to go 4-3 minimum the remaining 7 games, and I don't see that happening.
Yup, no big name coach is going to want to touch the Browns. Sean Payton, should he decide to leave the Saints, isn't even in the discussion. McDaniels is probably the best we could get. I'm not that much of an expert on style, but one would hope the next coach(es) will run a modified WCO, a 4-3 defense, or else it's back to the drawing board for another couple of years.

Gruden is going to Philly. Bank it.

What? I didn't think he was anywhere near that old. I thought he was in his early 50s.

Hello! McFly? Is anybody home? Yes, the Browns under Rander Lerner were the epitome of dysfunctional.
But didn't you hear? The Browns got a new owner. Have you been to Mars to see if there is any life there because it sure seems that you left this planet.
As to where the Haslam organization will fall along in that hierarchy, don't you think 3 weeks is a little soon to judge?
You must be a big Dragnet fan: Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.

gmp you need to read my posts about coaching..........
The Browns need a guy who is UNPROVEN, a GUY WHO IS HUNGRY, A guy not even on YOUR radar or ANY of ours radar.
The BRowns need to hire a guy who has his own set of values, his own way of doing things AND...... a fire in his belly to show the world he is somebody.
Whe Cowehr was hired, he was a nothing, when Bill b was hired, he was a nothing, an assistant. What is it about hiring guys who are retired that doesn't sink through your thick head?
The things tha made Cowher great, the things that put a fire in his belly, all that crazy over the top emotion that was his trademark? That is never going to happen again in his lifetime.
Don't you see that this is why Holmgren failed? Dude, it s like the excitement of screwing a woman for the first time. five year later? YOU aren't going to have the same bone for the chick.
Cowher is DONE, GRUDEN is DONE and he sucks the penis of other coaches.
We need our OWN Cowher............. someone NOT ON OUR RADAR.
and you have tried to find them coach after coach after coach after coach after coach!..get the point?..
Hiring a guy like Cower and and the high profile expectations a guy like that would immediately put on the face of the Browns franchise, is priceless..they keep bringin in these busllsh*t coaching whiff's and strike out all the time..hiring Cowher, yes, would feel like, as a Browns fan taking the Steelers Sloppy seconds....but it may bring in some name players to follow, with T Rich, and Cowher and Weeden, hopefully bright future...it's not a bad shot to take..
who else would you put on the sidelines?...really sombody from the organization?...there in lies the problem.
Just think of the renewed rivalry with Pittsburgh..would be fantastic thing to do..and please don't give me, they already have a rivalry...dude..that's been dead for a long time.

Look what he is doing as interim HC of the Colts. Is this a guy that perhaps makes a better HC than OC?
He didn't do that well as OC here...or in Pisstown. Yet he is winning in Indy.
So, What's up with that? Is it just Andrew Luck, or what?
