This wasn't really supposed to be a trivia game, or even a "choose the best" game. I was simply giving a list of various QB that wore the various numbers.

I disagree he's better than Brady alone, but the entire group? Bradshaw better than Montana? Not at all.

If the patriots win the super bowl this year there's a strong case to be made for Brady as best of all time.

What criteria would apply to best all time? If it is passes/completions/yards/TDs then Favre outshines everyone.

If it is titles....Otto Graham leads the list with 7. Bart Starr has 5. Montana/Bradshaw have 4. Several have 3...including Brady. Brady has lost a couple, so have others. If he makes it that would give him 6 title game appearances....most in the so called Super Bowl era....but it would only tie him with Starr for title game appearances.

OG had 11 of those. Some of the other old timers like Baugh and Luckman may have had 4 titles and a number of title game appearances. I would have to check.

However you rank it I think he is no doubt in the Top 5 of all time. The man is a bit of a machine.

Best of all time is heavily influenced by what generation your grew up in and who you saw first hand. It's kinda like asking who was the best guitarist of all time, Hendrix because of his creativity and unsually playing style. Rhodes because his superb combination of classical runs, heavy riffs, and great solos? Malmsteen because of his fast noodling?

With different criteria, you get a different answer.

I guess you are right...seeing that I never heard of Rhodes or Malmsteen.

Some people say the best guitarist was Carl Perkins....try that out for a generational thing.

On the QB thing....you WILL have older gents fight you to the death if you leave out the names of Luckman/Baugh/Graham from any discussion of the greatest QB of all time.

And you have young people today who put Montana, Bradshaw, Fouts, etc. in the same league with Luckman and Baugh. Old guys they never saw play. To them the 5 greatest QBs of all time are Brady, Manning, Brees, Favre and whoever.

Not someone I would put on any greatest list. I will have to see what others think.

I have done so. I consulted Rolling Stone Magazine who ranked the Top 100 guitarists of all time.

    Here are the Top 25:

    1. Hendrix

    2. Duane Allman

    3. BB King

    4. Clapton

    5. Robert Johnson

    6. Chuck Berry

    7. Stevie Ray Vaughn

    8. Ry Cooder

    9. Jimmy Page

    10. Keith Richards

    11. Kirk Hammett

    12. Kur Cobain

    13. Jerry Garcia

    14. Jeff Beck

    15. Santana

    16. Johnny Ramone

    17. Jack White

    18. John Frusciante

    19. Richard Thompson

    20. James Burton (session player)

    21. George Harrison

    22. Mike Bloomfield

    23. Warren Haynes (Allman Bros.)

    24. The Edge

    25. Freddy King

a few others in the top 50:

    28. Stephen Stills

    31. Dick Dale

    37. Bo Diddley

    39. Brian May

    40. John Fogerty

    42. Robert Fripp

    44. Scotty Moore (Elvis's guitarist)

    45. Zappa

    46. Les Paul

    48. Joe Perry

    50. Pete Townshend

Randy Rhoads was rated 85th between Eddie Cochrane and Joan Jett.

    Malmsteen didn't make top 100

Hey! Something we totally agree on muscially Lol.

I just picked Rhodes because he could do the technical playing that petrricui and the others you mention do. But he made great riffs and just plain great music He didn't need to noddle around the entire song to make it awesome. Shit they play crazy train at every damn football game.

I didn't see either Vai or Satriani listed in Rolling Stone's Top 100. Of course I think the list was the choice of one particular RS writer....so it may be just one opinion.
