  • You're the one who's a naive know it all. Your opinion is of no consequence to me, because I so often find myself at the farthest possible position from you.

You should read Bundy's last interview. It's not that the porn and violence made him a monster but he claims it was the driving influence that fostered his monsterdom and helped form his violent fantasies. He had no reason to lie he was only hours from inevitable death. According to him all the killers he knew in jail had one common link. Addiction to violent media and porn. And his words seem eerily true today.

Your arguement that "well I like it and I don't want to kill anyone" is invalid. You may be a more well developed person than Adam Lanza or Ted Bundy.

There's obviously many who are not.

Bundy is the exact reason why mental health issues need to be the focus. You don't kill people because you get bored with Jean Claude van Damme movies and porn. You kill people because you lack the self-control it takes for moderation. That's clearly a mental health problem.

  • Blaming this on video games or violence in the media is pretty dumb though. I've grown up killing people in my TV, and I'm fine. I beat hookers to death in GTA at like age 12, and I'm fine.

Violence in the media didn't cause this person to do what they did. Clearly something was messed up in their head to begin with.

If you really wanna blame violence in the media on these shootings then you might as well blame casinos and lotto tickets for people getting addicted to gambling. Cuz clearly it has nothing to do with the person and everything to do with the casino. No more Horseshoe downtown and no more revenue across the country...

Also to whomever said this isn't the time to discuss gun control. When is? Just wondering.

Edit: Actually we should probably make sure we have all of the info first. But still that means pretty soon

i never said we shouldn't discuss gun control, lets discuss

As the Founding Fathers knew well, a government that does not trust its honest, law-abiding, taxpaying citizens with the means of self-defense is not itself worthy of trust. Laws disarming honest citizens proclaim that the government is the master, not the servant, of the people. -- Jeff Snyder

"Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest."

    -- Mohandas Gandhi, An Autobiography,

The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so.

    -- Adolph Hitler, April 11 1942

No matter how one approaches the figures, one is forced to the rather startling conclusion that the use of firearms in crime was very much less when there were no controls of any sort and when anyone, convicted criminal or lunatic, could buy any type of firearm without restriction. Half a century of strict controls on pistols has ended, perversely, with a far greater use of this weapon in crime than ever before.

-- Colin Greenwood, in the study "Firearms Control", 1972

Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword, because the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops.

    -- Noah Webster

  • What does this have to do with a standing army and a conquered people?

  • gun control?

Listen, I play mass effect and GTA. Hell Im playing assassins creed 3 now (not right now but you get what I'm saying) I probably shot 1,000,000 effegies of humans before I was 18. Some people can handle it and some can't. The thought that this stuff doesn't desensitize you is bullshit. Have you watched these beheading videos from Mexico? I have and it doesn't even make me blink. That's called desensitizing.

I'm not pre disposed to killing people and that's a very good thing. But other people are and showing them that type of material on demand is a very bad thing. When you have fantasies they eventually have to be acted on. So you're right about it being a mental health issue, no arguement there, but you saying it doesn't de sensitize you is utter naive crap.

Not at first no. Any killer or even soldier will tell you they were physically ill the first time they killed someone. But sadly it gets easier. If you go over to bestgore.com and read the comments on these videos you'll see some very disturbed people. What you have is a bunch of people raised in the age where terrible violence both real and fake is so easily accessible that seeing a guy get his head cut off with a chainsaw is fucking boring. It's going to produce some real issues with kids that watch 3 guys 1 hammer at ten years old. Violence happens its always happened but to say that shit makes no contribution is asinine. Insane.

I'm not scapegoating it but pointing out that the ease of access most definitely exacerbates whatever mental issue exists that causes you to be the type of person who could kill 20 helpless little children because you're mad at your mommy. Makes you more driven to fantasize about it. More driven to act on it. Maybe without graphic gratuitous violence shoved down your throat the psychosis manifests itself as something else. Not all psychopaths and antisocial disorders become murderers. Maybe you work 20 hours a day, who knows. Ted Bundy could have been a politician. Instead he was a psychotic murderer. He felt violence and pornography steered him, a person with poor control of his emotions and a psychotic personality, into murder. I think he'd put a lot of thought into it while he sat on death row.

To write that off because you yourself are not a psychopath is naive. How do we address the issue in other ways? Take those that exhibit signs of being a psychopath or having antisocial personality disorder early in life and execute them? Lock them away forever? Get them on a regiment of medication forever? Or do you try and turn their disorders from fixating on murder and possibly fixating them on something else? What's your idea?

  • Some sort of intervention is necessary. It's likely that the best outcome of this is that people will be more aware of the mental health of those around them. I don't know exactly what type of intervention that would be, but I can't see the government creating a law or program that would stop this sort of thing from occurring.

Try to contribute something woody. I'd love to hear your ideas instead of just hearing how stupid I am because you disagree. I am not a stupid person. Stupidity and having a different point of view are different things. I scored just as highly on my ACTs and SATs as you probably did. I finished engineering school as well. Instead of pointing fingers and saying you're a stupid doo doo head why not try actually joining the conversation with your own thoughts instead of just quoting vapor and saying the equivalent of "yeah what he said." You might notice that I called vapor naive but not stupid. I wouldn't bother to write all this crap if I felt you guys were too stupid to understand it.

    1) I did contribute. You ignored it. Unless you want me to come up with some amazing 20 point specific solution to this problem like you were hammering Vapor with. No, I can't do that.

    2) I don't think I called you stupid.

    3) We just can't be too certain about those grades and scored, can we? 🙂

    4) I never quoted Vapor

    5) Ignore my +1 then. I am agreeing with him. Would you rather me type the same exact thing just rephrased?

    6) You have said a lot of times you don't really care about a lot of what you post on here and are just looking for a debate, but that's cool I can respect that.

It's cool vapor. My emotions are running high. This one hits close to home.

  • Such a shame with the senseless deaths of our future! I know everyone is pissed off and fighting about who is right and who is wrong but at the end of the day, the kids are still dead. There is not an answer to what people do, if someone is going to shoot or stab or blow up someone else, they are going to do it. Shit, a dude in downtown Manhattan was shot in the back of the head by a hit man while he was looking at his cell phone. The murder was in broad day light and caught on video and no one has been arrested, Google that one!

This school has an outstanding reputation in Conn. It is just a sad fact that if some evil (and yes this was an evil deed) person decides to commit an atrocity such as this there is little you can do in a free society to stop them. By the time the police got there it was already over. The teachers who were there said that the entire thing lasted less then 3 minutes. Even an armed security officer would have done no good because he or she would have been the first to die most likely.

Also, a big fucking lol at people blaming it on desensitization. I heard Fox News and MSNBC already blamed video games.

Are you kidding me, vapor? You are so naive. So naive. You don't think growing up watching the hills have eyes and playing halo desensitizes you to the realitys of death? I think ill possibly believe Ted Bundy's last thoughts on it over know it all 20 year old college kid, vaportrail.

Ted Bundy is who you believe? Wow. Listen dude. There was a 7 year long study done on the effects of playing video games, and proved that actually video games are a cathartic release of pent up violent thoughts that are there without video games. If you are 20 years old and cannot tell the difference between real life and a fucking video game, you got a screw lose in the first place.

  • Maybe we need to drop the defunct war on drugs and put more attention to the war on assholes.
