Josh Cribbs Makes Pro Bowl

The Browns Board

  • Cribbs got paid and the chip on his shoulder that used to fuel him became a resentment towards the Browns.

This past season he spoke out twice saying something along the lines of not being happy with the coaching, his play time etc.

He is still a good returner and an even better coverage guy but not worth it if you ask me.

If he's coming out and saying these type of things to the media you can bet he is running his mouth even worse behind closed doors.

Jacoby Jones backs out and cribbs fills in. Using my phone so I don't know how exactly to put a link up. We now have 3 pro bowlers does this make anybody want to watch the pro bowl a little more? Do we try to resign cribbs or with this latest pro bowl make him too expensive?

like I said three years ago trade him now that he has value, and now he is a token representative (done) of losing

Awesome insight. Cribbs is one of the best special teamers in the league, so trade him for the value now. That's what great teams do, trade away good players while they are valuable. Lets see what we can get for DQ while we're at it.

Can Cribbs get us to a Super Bowl in the next couple of years? Probably not. Can he help us get to the playoffs? Would anyone else out there settle for a 9-7 playoff season. Lets stop being Retarded people

We can't trade him. He is a free agent. YOu would have to sign him to trade him.

  • This is true Gip. Got so worked up over others stupidity I forgot that for a second.

  • Only Browns fans would argue someone is bad when dude makes the Pro Bowl, even as an alternate. I see the browns letting Cribbs go this off-season however so it is what it is. He's been a great Cleveland Brown and with a few more TD's in his career might go down as one of the best return guys to ever play the game.

    Absolutely correct

  • Cribbs value as a Brown is really limited at this point. He's obviously never going to materialize as a WR, and he has definitely lost a step on returns. Travis Benjamin will do fine at a fraction of the cost. I've always thought Cribbs could be a good safety. I wonder if any thought has gone into moving him to the defensive side of the ball, or if he'd even agree to trying it.

  • 27.4 on KO returns, 12.0 on punt returns and placed second Pro Bowl voting in both kick return and kick coverage categories.

Perhaps the most valuable special teamer in the league last year.

In 2008, when Chud was OC he used him in the WildDawg with 29 carries at 5.8 per carry, so I'm sure he sees some value in him.

Travis Benjamin is going to be a deep threat in Chud's vertical game ... why get him killed on special teams?

I see value in re-signing Cribbs. Nothing extraordinary because of his age ... but I certainly would make him an offer.

And we kept Tabor the ST coach too, so that could play in JC's favor.

    Zombo

    Rich isn't a Browns fan.

Yea, if that weren't the meaningless Pro Bowl they may have called it incomplete.

  • Cribbs' elbow was down. 😁

AH, since when is the pro bowl any different from the Golden Globe awards. Cribbs got in on his laurels. This guy is not deserving of all the discussion. He didn't help the Browns win anything. We need playmakers, touchdown makers and young legs.

Cribbs is no longer any of that. He makes no impact. Nobody is afraid of him and defenses don't have to play for him. His attitude also stinks.

HE doens't fit the mold of the team it sounds like Haslam is trying to build, So if he gets re-signed? So what? How does a cribbs one year older transfer into a bright winning future for a revitalized franchise?

Here in TN Haslam is said to be a man of principle. If so, Cribbs is gone!

Why? Because Mr Tom, I'm going to give you some sortable stats here. Kick\ punt returns, NFL 2012 Regular season You're getting blinded by the home run ball kick returner in the NFL- and it's pretty much gone. In the 256 NFL games last year there was a total of 16 KO or punt returns for TDs. Go click on the columns- and in every category that matters- Cribbs is no lower than sixth and that's entire NFL, guy. If you think that's "washed up" you're full of s**t. Cribbs my not be able to hit the home run ball anymore, but he sure as hell is capable of hitting a lot of singles.

Haslam was quoted as saying "There isn't a tougher player in the NFL than Josh Cribbs. I'll leave it up to the coaches and Joe Banner if they want to re-sign him." Regarding the Pro Bowl- they say it takes longer to get in than it should, and guys hang around longer than they deserve. After awhile, it's all name recognition.

FWIW, this isn't any man love for Josh- it's just facts. Sure, if Cribbs wants stupid money this contract you say "thanks for the memories, adios." Travis Benjamin proved last year he's more than capable as a KR, but do you want your only deep threat WR getting killed returning kicks? Benjamin may have 4.3 speed, but he only weighs 175 pounds. Cribbs has proved- other than some head hunting kill shots by thug Harrison, he's tough as nails.

  • Bottom line: until and unless you get somebody better than Cribbs to man those ST positions, then you stick with him.

Travis Benjamin is by no means proven. He had one good PR.

And he certainly is not going to be the torpedo that Cribbs is on coverage.

I mean, Cribbs has been a combination of Eric Metcalf and Steve Tasker...or Bill Bates if you remember him.

Do what you can to IMPROVE the team....not detract from it. If Cribbs is a liability..if there is someone more competent to do his job, go for it. Until we have that someone, stick with him.

That's for bringing that other aspect of Cribb's game up- his value isn't just as a return guy- he's probably the best kickoff coverage gunner in the NFL. Period. I've said it before- it's all going to depend on how many $$$ are going to keep Josh happy. I'm all for re-signing him- but not for crazy money.

OTOH, Give Dawson anything he wants- heck, we've already been paying him franchise player money the last two years, he can't hardly ask for much more.

  • TB is our only deep threat WR?

  • I think that out of the coordinators we've had in Cleveland, Horton seems the most likely to use Cribbs in a defensive roll. Little guys that can hit. Send Cribbs on a blitz or have him drop deep and play catch out there. He's really good at locating the ball in the air and catching those kickoffs right on the back line... Just seems so obvious to me, I don't understand, what is there to lose?

OK, Gordon had an outstanding ypc. What I worry about is turning Benjamin into a KR, he doesn't have the frame to absorb kill shots.

Definetly. I am NOT for Benjamin being the replacement of Cribbs. Ghoolie likes to say how Cribbs is "one shot" away from a vegetable. He has been out returner for how long? Benjamin would be a vegetable after ONE good shot. Benjamin has place as a WR, not as a ST returner. Cribbs has his place, as one of the best STers in the game.
