You realize that the Ravens are losing a lot of bodies to free agency right? A lot of leadership if Reed goes and Lewis obviously retired. Boldin was the primary driving force in the Super Bowl. Now Flacco is left with just Torrey Smith and the tight ends. The demise of the Steelers is pretty damn premature and the Bengals aren't invincible either. Did you happen to see Dalton shitting the bed in the playoffs? Hell had Ben not been injured and came back too soon. (It's shaking out now his throwing power suffered. Ben the drama queen dropping stuff to the media like he always does) The Steelers would have been the playoffs themselves. It should also be noted that i hear A LOT of the doom and gloom on my primary message board, the local media also talks about it plenty but they present both sides. Yes some high profile guys are leaving but that doesn't mean the roster that remains is chopped liver AND they're drafting "high" again. I don't know who i like in the first round but I'm thinking it's going to be a safety, possibly vacaro and I'd love to grab Arthur Brown in the second (might require a trade up) and Bell the Tailback from Michigan state in the 3rd. As long as Ben is on this roster the Steelers have the ability to win. They'll draft the heir apparent eventually but until then the Steelers have all the tools to be in the thick of it for a long, long while. They've done a whole lot of winning since the merger and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. I will say that eventually they are going to have to or at least get forced into stepping away from the restructures. My only concern currently. I expect Plaxico to pick up some of the slack left by Wallace and Sanders to come in to his own and Worilds needs to prove his worth, beyond that I'm not too concerned.

Yeah- we've been good forever and it's not going to change. I think you're in for an attitude adjustment this year.

All the tools to be in it? Is Hampton even on the roster anymore? Who's your LT? Poly-moo-moo is starting to get dinged on a regular basis. Yeah- Beanie Wells, that's the ticket. I wouldn't trade you the Steelers WRs for the Browns now straight up. Burress needs a long soak in the Hot Tub Time Machine guy- about all he's good for anymore is jump balls on fades in the end zone.

Wells isnt going to be expensive if they do sign him. I expect to see them drat a guy, possibly bell from michigan state. Hampton will be replaced by steve mclendon and marcus gilbert will be at left tackle, adams at right tackle. As far as polamalu is concerned as long as hes healthy he will play at a high level, he did to close out the year. Im guessing we will draft a safety at 17. Kenny vacaro possibly. As fa as the recievers are concerned you have gordon. I will take brown over him. Little has proven less than sanders and you have weeden, we have ben. Advantage steelers.

Personally I think its funny to see two steeler fans scratch it out over how bad there team is on the browns board.

Oh the irony, but homotron, endimoey is 100% right and its reinforces everything that has been said on here.

Father time has caught up, a couple poor drafts, shitty cap management and poof your done.

I didn't know he was a Steeler fan for one. Secondly what are we betting that they aren't done? Also were are all these heinous drafts? The Mendenhall drafted ended up being pretty rough. Otherwise were are these poor drafts? Isn't this what the Steelers always do? Restock with role players in FA and hit the draft. They're talking to Dan Connor, possibly Beanie Wells/Steven Jackson. Keeping some of their own and I won't be shocked to see Harrison back in the fold if he doesn't like what he says on the market. I'd like to get Lewis back but Cortez Allen is more athletically gifted and he's ready to go now. We also pick relatively high at pick 17, not high like you guys always seem to pick but high for the Steelers. Let's wait and see before you jump on the "old and tired" train. Seeing as this board is playing in the cousin eddie casino from vegas vacation as far as predictions worth a damn are concerned.

    @vagitron said:

Secondly what are we betting that they aren't done?

    @erie-dawg said:

I will listen to any resonable offer.

Lets hash out the terms and damages.

Hey your making yourself look like a pussy. Lets hear it...My offer is

The steelers have to "make it" to the superbowl? And if steelers "don't make it" to the super bowl you owe my old lady and I dinner? If the steelers "do make it" to the super bowl I owe you and your life partner Chuck dinner.

Sounds fair, because we have heard from you on how the steelers are so deep and can afford to lose a guy and have someone just as good on the bench.

It has been evidenced that often the quality of the WR is based on the quality of the guy throwing him the ball. Several WRs who flourished in NE because Brady was throwing to them have not faired so well when they went elsewhere.

Mike Wallace is going from a place with a proven QB to a place with an unproven QB, so it remains to be seen if he can duplicate what he did in pisstown.

If you had Gordon and Little on the Steelers roster you would have your legs wrapped around them like a 40 dollar whore. If they had BR throwing to them right now you would proclaim them Hall of Fame candidates. They are both superior athletes over Browns and Sanders. Whether or not they have the WR skills remains to be seen. Of course that could again depend on the quality of the person throwing to them.

Oh im worried about the steelers. We have depth but its not great at certain positions. I just dont believe we are going to see an epic collapse and if we do have a bad year i expect it to be one and done. There are 100% issues with the roster. They can also only continue to restucture for so long.

I agree on the qb. I made that statement myself. However id love to know based on what grounds you seat your argument that little and gordon are superior athletes. It sounds like you pulling more shit from your ass. Little didnt know how to catch until this most recent season.

All teams draft players who become starters. Out of your list, the Steelers drafted 2, maybe 3 stars (Pouncey and Wallace for sure) and one's not on the team. However, Miami will regret paying Wallace $13M/yr once his speed diminishes. Timmons plays 1-2 games a season where he looks like the best MLB ever and the other 14 games he seems to be MIA. You don't pay a guy star money for 1-2 great games per season. Further, Woodley has become fat and lazy since getting paid like a star. He's 10x worse than Timmons, because he only plays 2-3 mediocre games a season before he strains his beer gut. Antonio Brown is a good reciever, but I'm not annointing him a star. He didn't exactly do much since signing a big contract. Now that Wallace is gone Brown will draw the double teams and likely become invisible. Maybe they can get him some platform shoes to run in so Ben can see where he's at. Oh, and Gilbert is an awful draft pick. They need to get rid of him before he rolls up another teammate's ankle. I think every offensive player that suffered an ankle injury the past two seasons was the direct result of Gilbert rolling up on it after he failed to hold his ground on a block.

The Steelers are plumb out of recievers behind Brown/Sanders. They got the geriatric justice league of america in Burress and Crotchety. Burress is more likely to catch a his own bullet in his ass than a pigskin pass. Yeah, I'm so excited. Crotchety may play one or two snaps a game. The Steelers are due to select the next Limas Sweed in this years draft. Oh and speaking of old timers, we are replacing Keenan Lewis with William "Burnt Toast" Gay. Yippee, cause I couldn't get enough of Ike Taylor getting toasted!!!

As for Baltimore, they are frankly better coached than Pittsburgh. Caldwell was for Baltimore what we needed out of Haley. I can't wait for more of Haley's predictable playcalling (run, run, pass on 3rd-12) and his twisted owner pleasing reliance on the ground game...especially with the turds have lined up in our backfield. You have one of the best downfield QBs in the game playing dink and dunk one of every three plays. All hail, Beanie "Blown-Knee" Wells!!! He'll right our ship for sure. Anyways, I have more faith that Ozzie Newsome and Jim Harbaugh will correct Baltimore's defensive shuffle than LeBeau will fix Pittsburgh's ills. There just ain't any more rabbits to pull out of LeBeau's hat, Casey Hampton ate them all. Plus the Harbaugh/Flacco tandem hasn't missed the play-offs once now has it? Cleveland and Cincinnati are far better off defensively than Pittsburgh and possibly Baltimore. Cincinnati has the most talent on paper...yet somehow the Bengals find a way to muck it up...Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the Browns will actually win the division this year.

Lastly, I wouldn't bet a better team record with Erie Dawg this year, let alone the Super Bowl scheme he's trying to con you into.

My basis for claiming that Gordon and Little are superior athletes is the fact that they are bigger, faster, stronger than Brown and Sanders. What is it about that aspect of being a "superior athlete" you don't understand.

I acknowledged that at this stage that they may not be as experienced or have the WR skills down pat yet. Did you miss that part of my statement? Those skills would include holding on to the ball.

But Little is a beast. He blocks like Hines Ward did, only he is about 40 pounds heavier.

Gordon may not quite have the pure speed that Wallace had, but he is faster than Brown. But sure, Brown has a certain mastery due to his experience that Gordon doesn't quite have. But certainly Gordon has exhibited all the potential to have those skills.

No, I would say that these WRs are pretty much on par.....and with experience, and a decent QB, they can certainly surpass the pisstown pair.

I havent agreed to anything yet but if you are serious we can set some parameters. My question is are the steelers done if they have a bad season? I cant imagine drafting in the top 6 but hell if we did that draft alone would have potential to fix their holes. Lets not forget alot of the important cogs are still in place and there is plenty of youth at key spots. In my opinion in order to classify them as "done" they would need two bad years in a row. Missing the playoffs is a bad gear but 8-8 is a respectable record. I will think about some parameters and we can mull it over. Order a pizza online or a gift card or something.

    Excellent post.

You were making alot of sense up until the end. There is no con or schemes going on, he asked to bet me. So I accepted. It's put up or shut up time, He is always so confident that they are contenders, but when they fail its always excuses, but he claims the roster has pro-bowl caliber players at every position.

Oh im worried about the steelers. We have depth but its not great at certain positions. I just dont believe we are going to see an epic collapse and if we do have a bad year i expect it to be one and done. There are 100% issues with the roster. They can also only continue to restucture for so long.

Ok so a bad year is one and done, wanna change it from the SB to AFC championship game?

I havent agreed to anything yet but if you are serious we can set some parameters. My question is are the steelers done if they have a bad season? I cant imagine drafting in the top 6 but hell if we did that draft alone would have potential to fix their holes. Lets not forget alot of the important cogs are still in place and there is plenty of youth at key spots. In my opinion in order to classify them as "done" they would need two bad years in a row. Missing the playoffs is a bad gear but 8-8 is a respectable record. I will think about some parameters and we can mull it over. Order a pizza online or a gift card or something.

Go back and read some of the classics. Just a friendly bet that's all. Let me get something pretty clear first. I'm not here name calling. I'm not here making jokes about your mom/sister/wife. Outside of my sig which is directed at the mods that like to change my screen name. My sister has her Masters degree, working towards her doctorate. I also never said a word about the Super Bowl. I just said that they aren't going to have an epic collapse. I also have no problem putting my money where my mouth is but I was thinking playoffs, not the AFC champ game or the Bowl. Now if i could in someway guarantee that Ben would stay healthy all year I'd be more inclined to say AFC Champ game or Bowl. I'm also no where near as jaded as Endy but I talk with a lot of jaded fans daily. I'm going to address his post here in a minute. We can certainly settle up on a bet, lets get through the offseason and the draft first.

I didn't realize the skill set of a wide receiver in the NFL was so directly tied to height/strength and a 40 time. Unless of course the competition is the NFL combine. Wallace just got 60M and he's just fast. Decent size at 6 foot but I'm certain he didn't light up the bench press. I'm certain i could run through a laundry list of hall of famers that don't measure up on the often used "combine bench marks". As we all should know it's not all about what you do at the combine. Greg Little for example couldn't catch a cold and a good bit of Gordon's numbers were in garbage time, pulling down the deep ball no? He's no doubt a good receiver. I'd take him on the Steelers. Little on the other hand not so much.

First let's talk about Haley. Before Ben got hurt he was on a league MVP kind of pace, at least by the numbers. He wasn't getting sacked, he was efficient and he wasn't turning the ball over. Ben then got injured, his throwing power was diminished and we lost games as a direct result. Haley will also have more of a stamp on the team this season. Brown was injured last season and missed a pretty good amount of time. I think it was 5 games, before that he was the first player in NFL history to have over 1000 yards receiving and 1000 yards on special teams. He's a special player and even with Wallace out of the fold I expect him to further prove that this season. Burress was signed cheap and Cotchery last season was underused because of our depth at the position. He won't be underused this season. Woodley is a sore spot but prior to his hamstring issue he was unblockable. He was called out this season for being heavier than he should be and I expect that to show ,especially with Harrison out of the fold. Someone has to step up and take some leadership. I also think you're dead wrong on Lawrence Timmons. He was playing on a pro bowl level this season and he has all the tools to be a fixture in Hawaii. His lone down year since being a full time starter came in 2011 and that's when he was playing both inside and outside linebacker due to injuries with Harrison and Woodley. Otherwise he's been over 100 tackles twice and last season had 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 3 int's, one of which was for a TD. He closes like a freight train and hits like one too. He's a star in the NFL and will show that once again this season. You then go on to mention William Gay as the replacement for Lewis. He's not the replacement for Lewis and was never brought in TO BE the replacement for Lewis but you know this already. You're just trying to be cute. Cortez Allen has that job and I expect him to excel. He turned it on last year and unlike Lewis actually has the ability to force some turnovers. The Jury is still out on Gilbert. He'll be playing Left Tackle rather than right tackle this season and apparently he's better suited over there. He has otherwise rolled up on some guys and it's been a running joke on my primary steeler board for a while? Is he terrible? Absolutely not. I expect our offensive line to be really strong this season.

I do. I'm a confident guy period and my Pittsburgh sports teams outside of the Pirates who are on the up swing have given me no reason not to be confident. As long as Ben is on the team and a few of the main cogs are healthy the Steelers are still going to be the Steelers. We'll make some kind of bet whether it be tied to who has a better record or whether or not the Steeelers make the playoffs. All i know is i've been reading about the demise of the Steelers on this message board for a few years now and not once have they finished less than 8-8, once they won the Super Bowl and another time they went to the Super Bowl. My question is how many offseasons do we need to have where someone on this board talks about the Steelers falling off only to see them make a deep playoff run or at least finish with a .500 record before the person ringing that bell gets laughed out of town? The Steelers no doubt have some problems right now but they aren't going to collapse and they definitely aren't going to have a decade of losing. I could maybe see a pretty down season at some point but with the way they build, draft and just conduct general business they'll never be down for long. The have the most wins post merger of any team in the NFL and that covers several decades of football. They also haven't always had a franchise QB during that time and our current QB is just entering his 30's. Hell Brandon Weeden is almost as old and you fellas just drafted him.
