Losses Vs. Gains Comparison

with out looking at the steelers depth chart who do they have? ryan clark? isn't he a free agent next year on a cap straped team?
Outside of Clark and Troy they have Robert Golden a promising second year and Shark Thomas. Plus DaMon-Cromartie Smith and I'm not 100% certain on Clark but everyone said they were cap strapped this season and they still went out and signed a few free agents and had enough to sign their draft picks. Willie Colon post draft also took around 5M off the books and I believe Polamalu is going to restructure. I'm also not worried at all about Clark leaving. He will retire a Steeler and if push comes to shove he'll be a home town discount kind of guy. Homer or not watch Shark Thomas tape. The guy is a damn missile/tackling machine. Just always around the ball.

As someone said: everyone drafted has "promise". Mingo has promise/Jarvis Jones has promise. Thomas has promise, Leon McFadden has promise (I suppose you too think that San Diego St. is a basketball school)
I mean hell, they are talking about a kid in the 8th grade who has promise....and he has at least 7 more years of school before him:

I don't act like I'm better than anyone else. I just have a strong opinion and a firm one. I'd also happily back up my claims but hell all you have to do is watch football and you'd know a lot of the claims made around here are nuts. I'd also love for my own "brethren" to speak up if they think I'm a tool box. There aren't many, if any at all here anymore. Either way you should try contributing something worth while, rather than posting like the post above. A lot of name calling and zero substance.
Endymion says you are the bat shit crazy one for thinking Ike Taylor is anything but a POS.
Your biggest problem is that you are living in LaLa Land by thinking that some players on your team are what they are not.

Right and numb nuts just finished saying at some point to day that hes "one year slower" the guy still runs a 4.3 or faster and epitomizes hard work in the offseason. If he were so bad they would have let him walk.

Thomas has a chance to be a good NFL player and was a very good player in college. Absolutely horrific decision by that idiiot Lombardi to trade the Browns' pick to the Steelers. We're going to regret that. But this kind of stuff and these rotten decisions that made the Browns a crummy team for years. Other teams get the draft right. The Browns are inept at it.
Why do all of you dickheads think you know more about football than Mike Lombardi?
And since Joe Banner hired him I guess you think you know more about football than him too?
And why are you saddling an entirely new administration with past Browns failures?
These guys have absolutely nothing to do with what happened during the the lerner years. Nothing.

After looking up your free agent signings, I personally wouldn't have even mentioned it, it looks like shit. They signed Bruce Gradkowski was that what you were talking about? They rarely sign big ticket free agents. However i was happy to get gradkowski as he will be better than batch and leftwich and spaeth is exceptional blocking and has solid hands. Gay also came cheap from arizona and he is a great nickel corner. I was sad to see him go the first time. Bottom line they had the moneybto sign guys and didnt lose anyone they didnt want too. They didnt even offer lewis a contract and wallace outstayed his welcome. Terrible attitude last year.

Hairline leg fracture that didnt require surgery. He wont lose any speed.

Well he was never ike taylor fast in.the first place, just shifty and quick. Taylor from.what ive read has lost zero speed and is working out like a monster. The same way he has since entering the league.

I am completely fine with the trade with the Steelers. I did happen to want Shamarko, however I really believe the AFC North is going to beat each other up to the tune of Bengals (10-6), Ravens (8-8), Browns (7-9), and Steelers (7-9). That Steelers pick is going to be a fine Mid 3rd Rounder, just like the Colts will probably regress a little bit to grant another mid 4th Rounder.
Having 5 pick in the (probable) Top 120 is going to open up a lot of possibilities.

Let's just go from when Ben was drafted (04)
2004 - 15-1
2005 - 11-5
2006 - 8-8
2007 - 10-6
2008 - 12-4
2009 - 9-7
2010 - 12-4
2011 - 12-4
2012 - 8-8
Now what exactly has happened to the roster since last year to put them at 7-9? The Bengals have certainly improved with two VERY good drafts in a row, even though I'm not a big fan of Eifert. The Steelers lost Mike Wallace (I'd argue he is the reason for the locker room dissension last season) Keenan Lewis and James Harrison. I hated to see Harrison go because I think he's still going to produce but beyond him i think the loss of Wallace is an addition via subtraction. He's an elite one trick pony. They didn't even offer Lewis a contract because Cortez Allen is better. Jason Worilds has been waiting for starter reps since being drafted playing behind Harrison and when he has been given the opportunity to play he's racked up a respectable sack total. They brought back a very good nickel corner in Willie Gay and signed Matt Spaeth who graded out by pro football focus (a respected online football source) as the best blocking tight end last year. Go to a Bears board and you can see for yourself..most of the fan base talking about how Matt Forte is really going to miss the guy. He;'s also familiar with the Steeler system seeing as he was drafted by them. The only area where the Steelers have gotten worse is tight end.
People here have been calling for this epic collaspe for as long as I've been posting here. I started posting under another name so I've been here longer than my current name even suggests. They've been to two Super Bowls and have won one. Roethlisberger is still on the roster, they drafted a very good college tailback and his game is tailor made for the NFL but in particular the zone blocking scheme the Steelers intend to employ. Ben has a absolutely tremendous play action pass and wasn't able to use it last year because there ground game was putrid. Just getting consistent play out of the backfield will pay substantial dividends. Bell could very well be a offensive rookie of the year candidate because he has great hands and the lateral quickness and vision to be very good. He also led the NCAA in yards after contact and his offensive line was downright bad. It's the reason he was drafted ahead of Ball and really should have been drafted ahead Benard but the Bengals didn't need a physical back they needed a change of pace guy. Soooooooo my message board rivals until all the stalwarts start dropping off the map the epic collapse you all so enjoy to predict isn't turning a corner and heading for home. LasVegas doesn't have them finishing at 7-9 and it's because they know better. They also play the odds and the odds suggest the Steelers are going to be just fine, especially if the rookies pan out.
EDIT: Since I've been born (82) the Steelers have had 7 losing seasons and only from 1985-1988 were they ever in a tight grouping. I'll be 31 in September and that's coming up so in almost 31 years they've had 7 losing seasons and right now they have one of the best quarterbacks in the game and plenty of stalwart starters with a host of up and comers. Once again what is going to bring on the collapse? Ben getting really hurt? that's about the only way and even then just about every team in the NFL would struggle with their franchise QB going down.

Well, first of all, you were one bounce of the football from being 7-9 last year.
I still don't see anything impressive at running back, and you let your best long-ball threat go, and your tight end is getting long in the tooth so ... your weapons aren't better.
Even Steeler fans will admit that some of the recent draft picks along the offensive line are looking less than sterling.
Defensively, you still have the best DC in the business, but you are relying on a lot of 30+ starters ... including three in the secondary. I'm not saying they can't play anymore ... I'm saying old guys get injured.
I like your linebackers, Ben's a dickhead but he's a playmaker, so you'll win some games. 8-8 ish would be a good goal. Probably 7-9. Just getting too old. Plus both Ohio teams looks much improved.

Ben was also having a career year before hurting his shoulder. As with most teams in the lg when your star qb goes down you are goin to struggle. Bell has all the.tools and will certainly hav the opportuinty to push for rookie of the year so i disagree about your hb assessment and for every position on the team there is a young guy waiting to start an not just rookies but 2nd and 3rd year guys. The age argument doesnt work, most of it is now gone. Keisel, Clark, Polamalu and Taylor, you can throw foote in there to if you want. Keisel has heyward pushing, clark and polamalu have thomas and golden. Corner i really like the recently drafted hawthorne and of course willie gay is back but you still cant list a rookie as anything until they prove it on the gridiron. Ben is older but buta that position guys play for a while and hes probably the toughest in th business.

If rookies are "pushing" these vets for starting jobs, the vets must not be as good as you make them out to be.

I mentioned one rookie and it was just depth with hawthorne. My point was when the old guys are done there are strong replacements behind them. Heyward isnt a rookie, bell is immediately our best hb so your assessment would be correct there. The old argument just doesnt hold water.

You have no idea how "strong" or "promising" any of these replacements are. Just saying it doesn't mean shit until they become the starters.
Therefore, the argument does hold up. Your starters are old and your backups aren't as good as your starters.
It's not rocket science.

What do you mean I have no idea? Heyward has already been spot starting, same with Jason Worilds. They have both proven very capable. You are correct I have no idea how Bell or Shark Thomas for example will perform because they are rookies but Heyward and Worilds have played plenty. Worilds played in place of both Harrison and Woodley when both were injured at different times. Heyward has already been rotating with Hood and Keisel or flat out starting when Keisel was injured. Worilds has started 10 games since being drafted and has 10 sacks. Heyward was obviously drafted in the first round and has been getting better each year since being selected in the first round. Soooooo my argument holds up just fine. I swear some of you guys don't follow rivals much at all.

We follow our rivals just fine. We just don't overrate them like you do.
Heyward and Worilds have played some....and at a very average level.
And you are right, you have no idea how Bell and Thomas will play (nor how Jones or any other rookie will play). They could be good, they could be mediocre, they could be bad.
