Seriously? Another Running Back?

Let's see, they are the same size, the same speed, both play WR and return kicks.
Where in the hell are they dissimilar? The fact that one went to Miami and one went to WVa? The fact that one has an inny belly button and the other has an outy?
I mean, what?
Um skills at those positions. Benjamin is JAG and Austin has big time playmaker written all over him. Harvin is small, fast and plays WR is he the same as TB too???

I see no substance in your reply. What does Austin do, what does he possess that Benjamin doesn't?
They are of similar height and weight...and speed...and do the same things reasonably equally.
What are the tangible traits....or intangible traits...that make you think Austin will be so far superior?

Just because two players have similar playing styles and physical attributes, doesn't make them just as good as each other.
I haven't seen enough of either to tell you definitively why one is better, but consider just the fact that St Louis traded up in the first to get him, and benjamin was taken in the 4th and you have an idea that they're not of equal talent.

Well, all I can say is that a guy named Shanahan drafted Rambo and last year he took a guy named Morris in the same draft slot as Rambo.
But, let me guess, Lombardi is better at evaluating talent than Shanahan, right? Mmmm, let's figure it out: Lombardi takes Slaughter, and Shanahan takes Rambo. Who will be right?
Shanahan is famous for plugging late round running backs into his system and making them effective. He sure as shit is not known for having some kind of crystal ball with every position late in the draft. This is your logic. He had a good 6th round pick last year, this year has to be the same.
Oh Hardesty looked good in college. He has done so well in the NFL that Rambo has to be good cause that is the kind of great talent evaluator I am!
Oh you guys want me to write ONE MORE FUCKING REPLY POST! I'd sure love to write 10 in a row!
I'm confused, you think Lombardi is a rubbish talent evaluator, so you want him to use those two picks on people he thinks are good? Or are we just rehashing the draft again and again?
You forget, Lombadi can't tie his shoes unless by committee. That is what this dip shit doesn't get. 4 people made the decision on each pick. Lombadi, Banner, Chud, and Farmer. But Skeptical is right. It's all Lombardis fault. 4 grown as men with decades of football experiance for 6 rounds said, That Rambo kid isn't worth the sweat on my balls.
Thank you. Ron Jaworski, like me, believes Austin is the most explosive player to come into the NFL in many decades.
The guy is going to get the shit knocked out of him. He will have a similar injury history that Jackson has, which alone doesn't make him worth a top 10 pick.

We're all entitled to our opinions, and I respect yours, even though we differ. I'm not a fan of Lombardi's draft nor much of their approach in free agency. Today we learn that TRich has a minor injury and is sitting out OTAs and Cameron is out, too. Browns have some decent RB backups, but their options at TE are just plain awful. One of the big mistakes Lombardi made was his failure to set up free agency to aggressively pursue a quality TE and then compounding that mistake by not using the draft to take a TE in the first four rounds, which he could have done if he had made the trade with St. Louis.
If Mingo doesn't pan out as a first round quality talent, this draft will go down as another swing and miss for Lombardi, who is one of the worst talent evaluators in pro football history. Remember, Lombadi went on TV last year and said taking Josh Gordon in the supplemental draft was a mistake! That's as good as any example of his horrific abltiy to evaluate anything.
Lombardi's the kind of guy who overpays for a Volvo because that's his choice, he's proud of it, and he thinks Lexus stinks.

And yet, one of the best players in the last decade that occupies the position that Austin will primarily occupy: kick returner, was an undrafted QB from a mid-size midwestern school.
So, who really knows.
I am not saying I don't like Austin...or that it would not have been nice to have him on the Browns....but the Browns needs were far away elsewhere....and clearly, clearly, the Browns hierarchy was drooling over Mingo the way you seem to be drooling over Austin.
And guess whose voice counts? Not yours.

Shows your lack of knowledge about Austin you have him type-cast as a kick returner. He's a great runner, he's a great receiver, he's a great kick off returner, he does it all.
And here's a really good part: Unlike many Browns draft picks past and present, Austin has never beeen injured, at all, in 8 years of playing.
I agree that my voice didn't count. I will tell you with great confidence that Austin will have a better NFL career than Mingo.

It's clear you don't watch players play. Anybody who has watched Austin play is awed by his explosiveness. He's going to be a great one, a better Percy Harvin.
And if you had actually watched Bacarri Rambo play, you might have a different view of him. But then again, maybe not. Some people have an eye for talent, others do not.

ability to get open, ability to make plays after the catch(not go down because you might get a booboo), make defenders miss, run routes, come out of the backfield.. Just because a player has same dimensions doesnt mean they are the same type of football players. TB is a poor mans Daunte Hall..
-
Travis Benjamin? Doesn't make defenders miss? Doesn't run routes, can't get open...can't make plays after the catch...not explosive?Seriously? The grass is not greener just because it's on the other side of the fence...It would have been foolish to draft Austin this year, when they already have Benjamin on the team. They NEEDED a dynamic pass rusher.

Pretty much was a great move. Demarcus Ware always played on the dl. Mingo has ALL the qualities to
become a terrific success like Ware did. Ware made the transition - and Mingo will be "set free" to utilize
his excellent physical abilities to the max at 3-4 OLB, like Ware did. Mingo was used mostly in a tight formation,
strong side - not a best case position or setup to dramatically boost his numbers.
The comparison to Wimbley, btw, doesn't work. Mingo has the strength, outstanding agility and speed,
that Wimbley never had.
I think he is going to be terrific. Can't wait to see him take the field.

No, I'm just the guy who is telling you that Tavon Austin is going to be a terrific player and the Browns should have strategized this past off-season to acquire him. I'm also the guy who has told you that the Browns secondary is a disaster and that fact alone will prevent the team from winning much more than last year. In fact, Ward gets hurt a lot and we'll have other DB injuries, and their back ups are terrible. It's going to be a long season thanks to the ineptitude of Banner and Lombardi.

That doesn't counter anything I said. I never said he wasn't going to be a bad player. He will more than likely be good. What will happen is they are going to try and use him like an every down starter, cause they need to as a top 10 pick, and they are going to make him a focal point of the offense. His small little church boy body is going to get jacked so hard so consistantly by bigger faster defenders, that his 8 year no injury streak is going to end mid way through his rookie year. That is not worth a 1st round pick.
I see no substance in your reply. What does Austin do, what does he possess that Benjamin doesn't?

The difference is that Austin was put into a system that put his talents into the lime light. Screen passes and the such. Benjamin wasn't. The most inventive they got with Benjamin in college was run a streak or a post.
The real difference between the two? Austin is more shifty and Benjamin has more straight line speed.
The Pro difference? Benjamin isn't a focal point, he isn't going to get hit as often, and he will likely play more years in this league because of it.
Just because two players have similar playing styles and physical attributes, doesn't make them just as good as each other.

And I am the guy telling you that sure maybe Tavon Austin will be a terrific player....or he may be Charles Rogers. And I am the guy that is telling you that the Browns had far higher priorities than small, 3rd string WR/KR...because they already had a fairly similar guy on their roster in Benjamin. And I am the guy telling you that if the Browns hadn't gone for Mingo, they certainly would not have gone for Austin.....Dee Milliner would have been a far more likely choice.
And I am the guy telling you that the Browns Defensive backfield has probably one of the top 5-10 CBs in the league in Joe Haden, and one of the top 5-15 SS in the league in TJ Ward....and it has a promising young #2 CB in Leon McFadden, and a promising young FS in Tashaun Gipson.
And I am the guy telling you that even if McFadden and Gipson are "lower tier" DBs....say rated 16-30, this defensive backfield is still the best in the division....and would still be in the top 10 or 12 in the league.

Travis Benjamin sat behind the #1 kickoff returner in the history of the NFL....from a TD perspective..and #5 from a yardage perspective. I think he will blossom quite well and will prove quite adequate....and dangerous as a kick and punt returner. He has already proven that he can take a punt the distance.
Austin may turn out to be good....but he has yet to prove a thing.
Austin was never, ever in the Browns crosshairs....so it is foolish to even worry about him.
-
Austin is not going to change anything for the Rams. WR's are simply shiny hood ornaments. They do have a franchise QB, but they need one of their RB's to become viable before they'll be a playoff threat.
Their OHI [offensive hog index] was 23rd last year.. not a playoff rank
I am plenty happy with Benjamin; we need a better pass rush and Mingo's athleticism is off the charts.

There are questions about his strength. Bob Golic brought it up recently. Mingo will hit the weight room, alright.
But compared to Wimbley, he has far more strength. I was just referring to a few folks that thought of Mingo and Wimbley being
a lot the same player. They aren't.
"“Mingo looks almost too lean to handle the physicality of NFL linemen, but has surprising strength to go along with the elite length and straight-line speed to rack up double-digit sack numbers (he had eight in 2011) and track down ball carriers (15 tackles for loss) as a 3-4 rush linebacker at the next level. He is a proverbial boom or bust prospect. Mingo’s production dropped as a junior, and he failed to show much overall growth in his game over the course of his career. However, KeKe flashed the talent and projectable skills to be a dominant NFL pass rusher, and a position switch will likely serve him well, as the LSU Tiger was too often asked to play in a tight alignment on the strong side in college a poor use of his strengths. Mingo’s length, athleticism, and pass rush talent figure to make him a top 20 selection in the draft.” – NFL.com"
