bench Bess for LIFE!
-
Odd thing is if you google "Bess punt muff" one vs. the Bengals in 2010 pops up... back then Bess had long hair.
Google "Bess muffed punt" and today's shows up...
If he only muffs one every three years, I can live with that.
And being that Bess is our "precision route/ hands guy", it's just possible that if he has more than two games in a row with the same QB, then his production will improve.

I'm only calling it what they are calling it on NFL.com...

Well, then I am disappointed with NFL.com. He caught it and started to run with it.
Muffed puntFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaIn American football, a muffed punt is defined as "touching of the ball prior to possessing the ball."
A muffed punt occurs when there is an "uncontrolled touch" of the football by a player on the returning team after it is punted. This can occur when:
- The kicking team interferes with the other team's right to catch the punt
- A player on the kicking team is struck unaware by the football running down-field to cover the punt.
-
A player attempts toreturnthe ball, makes contact with it but cannot retain the ball in his hands and it comes loose.[1]
A muffed punt is not a fumble. To be a fumble, the receiving team must possess the football, then lose control. In the case of a fumble, the ball is live and can be returned by the team that recovers the ball. In the case of a muffed punt, it is possible for the punting team to recover the ball and continue the drive, but at least in NCAA and NFL rules, they cannot advance the ball on that same play. Rules vary by league about how to handle a muffed punt.
In the NFL, a muffed punt cannot be challenged by a coach for review.

Wow... this has to be the most bipolar forum on the net...
I can still remember the accolades Bess drew when we signed him...
He was our FA steal...
His pass reception rate was the highest in the league...
And on...
And on...
He muffed a friggin' punt... it happens.
The punt was short... he sprinted to get to it and got to it.
And rather than go down after fielding it he looked up to continue the run back...
He tried to make a good play a better play...
And it went wrong...
He is our sure handed return man.
Put in to field all critical punts...
Why?
Because three games ago (IIRC) Benji muffed one deep in our end of the field...
As for his "dropped passes"...
Y'all need to go to the tape...
Cause the three that immediately spring to mind, including the game ending one, were all terrible throws.

Amen, he will bounce back and be fine.

Extremely disappointed in Bess
Here site that does advanced stats on WRs.
http://wp.advancednflstats.com/playerstats.php?pos=WR
Out of 80 receivers
In the category "win probability added"
8. Gordon
74. Little
78. Bess
"expected points added"
14. Gordon
74. Bess
80. Little (dead last)
"yards per target"
10. Gordon
78. Bess
80. Little (dead last)
"catch rate"
56. Gordon
71. Bess
80 Little (dead last)
Summary: Bess is having a really bad season and Greg Little sucks balls.
If they traded Gordon I think I would take a bullet to the noggin as opposed to watching this offense without him the rest of the year.

I don't get how Bess goes from one of the most trusted 3rd down sure handed guys to what we've seen this year. There's nothing more frustrating than a NFL WR not catching the football.
-
Last year he ranked 12th in win probabilty.
He was a smart free agent acquisition.
He just happens to suck this year
Maybe it's the gloves.
Cause it ain't the QBs ... he drops all of their passes.
Hoping he gets sync now with Camps, we need a good second half from him.

If bess can't catch that last ball on sunday, i really don't know what he can catch. A soft lazy spiral over the middle that you are literally sliding for and it lands right in your basket....what can you catch if you can't catch that? What? A weeden shovel? Maybe weeds can teach campbell how shovel flick and Bess can be that guy....otherwise wtf?

If Chud doesn't bench Bess he might lose the locker room a bit. He has sat Little for less and I still hate coaches, even though I didn't want Shurmur fired, who back a player who stinks. I love Bob Stoops in the fact he says, "yeah he played terrible".
-
He won't lose the lockerroom over that. If you ever played sports you'd know a lockerrrom tends to pull around a player who has a bad game. They know what he can do and as players who have played, they also know that next week they can be the guy to have a bad game.
Trust me.....players support teammates. They aren't going to revolt if Bess is in the game, just like they won't laugh if Weedend sees more action.

Yeah wtf? Shurmer? You want Holmgren back too?

I hate Bess for the fumble but I hate him even more for the drop on the 4th down.

If it weren't for the 3 game stretch with Hoyer, this team would be no better than they were last year

totally disagree. Even with Campell the offense looked a hell of a lot better than with wheezy. More people in place, and people like skrine and Gipson stepping up it looks nothing like last yearIf it weren't for the 3 game stretch with Hoyer, this team would be no better than they were last year

Campbell wasn't on this team either last year. 2-6 last year vs. 3-5 this year, big difference
