A Valid Question for Chud about the NE Game...

  • I didn't mind the decision I HATED the play call though

  • You NEVER go for 2 until you have to, PERIOD. I don't give a flying fuck about "the book", it's just wrong. There was almost an entire football game left to play, with many possessions left. You always take the sure point until your hand is forced by time and or possessions. Those of you that were in The Tavern know how loudly I was screaming when Chud kept the offense on the field...............It was a bad coaching decision, period. Hopefully he learns from this, as well as his wasted last time out.

Game day managing is tough, regardless of the sport. I coach a high level 18u softball team and have made plenty of game day mistakes myself, but I don't make them twice.

  • What happened with last time out? It disappeared but we were all yelling so much I didn't know when we used it.

  • He called it after the phantom PI, before the go ahead score.

  • Well ... That was dumb.

I guess his thought was to "get his guys together and get on the same page", but he had to know what was about to happen. We needed all of the time on the clock that we could get, and that one time out might have been the difference between a 57yd miss and a 49yd game winner.

"the book" should never be abandoned. of course, it's not 100% but it is supported by factual statistical probability

  • Sorry Burn, I coach by my own book, no one else's. Going for 2 in the 2nd qtr of a football game simply to make the score a nice, round 14 is a bad decision. At 12 you're already up two scores, which means 2 possessions. Had there of been 5 minutes left in the game, which would mean that the Pats *might* get 2 more possessions and score on their last one and go ahead of us with no time left for us to respond, then yea, take the risk and see if we can take it to 2 full TDs.........Not in the frickin' 2nd qtr.

  • I haven't been more angry during a football game than I was right after NE scored 30 seconds after they called that time out. Yeah you're gonna stop NE when they have the ball at the 1, four downs and just effortlessly marched down the field twice in about 90 seconds (albeit with quite the bit of help). That timeout could've gotten us another play which could've given us the 3 yards so 'ol billy could've kicked the game winner instead of coming up short.

This game encompasses every aspect of the browns post '99 that makes me want to drink heavily. We play really well, we start slow but our D manages to keep us in the game, we go into half time without giving up multiple scores 5 mins prior, our offense seemingly scores the dagger touchdown late in the 4th quarter . . . But then . . . Our D goes soft, a miracle happens for the other team, the refs bend us over and go balls deep, our offense puts an impressive 30 second drive together to crush the opposition's great comeback . . . 1 play and 3 yards short . . . we lose like we have so many times before.

I don't think I'm gonna watch anymore NFL after the Bears come to town . . . Until Weedbellhanie gets hurt and they have to put tanney in . . . Or April whichever comes first. Speaking of April if our FO decides to pull the trigger on a high pick QB he better pan out or I'm gonna have to . . . . Oh yeah there's absolutely nothing I can do but hope they send a big lollipop with my season ticket package.

  • chuds a fuckin dud.

after this season is over him and norv will have to wear diapers after the hole haslam tears them.

i see nothing new or exciting about play calling or the growth of our playmakers under these goofs.

yet (even though the guy's a stiff) shurmur looks better right now as an OC than turner.

Seriously? Gordon and Cameron have blossomed with three different QBs throwing to them, one that is legally Retarded.

Gordon has 1400 yards in a vertical attack ... Murmur rarely threw the ball down field.

guess that all has changed since he went to the city of brotherly love and has a real QB and a real RB and a coach above him who chud wishes he could sniff the taint of.

I agree 100%. I understand that New England is easier to run on than most teams, but the Browns don't have a short-yardage back that can be counted on to get the 2 yards WITH the OL that currently exists.

I like the aggressive play calling this season - shows the staff is trying to WIN ballgames, instead of playing NOT TO LOSE.

Aggressive, and stupid are two different things. Going for a 4th & 1 at midfield is aggressive, and like most coaching decisions, you're a genius if you make it and a moron if you don't. But not taking what is as close to a 100% sure thing as you can get extra point, for a 50/50ish (don't know the exact stat) gamble 2pt IN THE SECOND QUARTER, is the pure definition of stupid.

Tell me again, what was the final score? Would that 100% guaranteed 1pt come in handy for us?

  • Chud knows he has trouble running the ball and had an inferior team. He wanted as many points as he could get early and try to hold Brady off. Not a bad plan. He's aggressive and with a 4 win team you can't fault him for that

  • i fault chud, norv and horton for 75% of the reasons we have lost the games we have.

who's the QB guru that got hired cuz he could fix weeden? who'd the off coord that turns TEs into super stars and QBs into legends? (see how well rivers is playing this year?)

who's the d coord that is going to be the next mike tomlin?

well there's a search party out for all of them. maybe they fell through the ice.

doesn't take long for a NYer to smell bums. live in a box and piss and shit in a pickle jar. then ask you for $5 dollars to buy some ripple.
