Robert Quinn, Mario Williams, Cameron Jordan, John Abraham, Chandler Jones, Tamba Hall. All first round picks. All in the top 10 among sack leaders. That's 60% of the players in that top 10 category.
Quinn, with 18 sacks this year, had only 5 his rookie year. Mathis had 3.5. Williams had 4.5.

Mingo was being considered as the #1 overall pick for a good chunk of last season, and as he blended in a lot more than he stood out in his last season at LSU, his stock fell quite a bit. The talent is there, though. He showed great instincts early, made a good amount of errors as well, I think he's just a very obvious case of freak athlete learning how to be a defensive end.
I feel like the Browns are in a position to really grow and improve the team going into the draft. We have picks if we want to move up, move down, acquire veterans, and add elite talent. Not sure if I have faith in these guys to pick great players with every pick, but I'm inclined to be optimistic with a team that did all that to put themselves in the position they're in.

Why wait one more game? Lose For Bortles, it's all the rage!

hes having nowhere near the season Kiko Alonso is having for Buffalo and he wasn't even a 1st round pick
So now you want to play the "what if" game. Alonso has a lot of tackles- Mingo has more sacks. What if every team in the NFL had been brilliant enough to realize Tom Brady was a sure fire HOFer, instead of a throw away 6th round pick? Teams other than the Browns passed on Montana, Marino, and Farve too- so cry me a river. Yup while you're at it, the Chargers were dumb asses taking Teo instead of Alonso by your brilliant 20\20 hindsight analysis
Incidentally Alonzo plays inside, Mingo outside- so you can't really compare- the Browns already had Jackson, and they wanted an outside speed rusher- looks like they got what they wanted.

If they wanted an undersized situational rusher turning in a mediocre performance...then,
yeah.
I was against the Mingo pick from jump street, I just think there were at least four other positions that could have used an upgrade before getting a fourth OLB.

See it how you want to. I may eat crow, but Mingo has some serious talent and think he will be a good LB if not great. I was very much against the pick, I was screaming for Jones. We shall seeIf they wanted an undersized situational rusher turning in a mediocre performance...then,

Just goes to show that you should not pick defensive players from the SEC?
Though, OK, I guess our best defensive player was from the SEC (Haden)

I really don't think conferences have anything to do with how someone will play in the NFL. What conference is central Michigan in?

That was a little jibe at TCPO who says you are wrong....conferences....at least the SEC, and the players that come out of there are better than others who join the NFL.

He's a different breed of LB.hes having nowhere near the season Kiko Alonso is having for Buffalo and he wasn't even a 1st round pick

Mingo is going to be good... VERY limited playing time this year, which is fine with me since he was a rookie, but he is the only LB who consistently disrupted the pocket when he was rushing the passer, plus he is very athletic playing in coverage. He needs to play smarter against the run, but I have no doubt he will improve that part of his game.
BTW... It's been mock draft season since Hoyer got hurt... where have you been?

6'4" 240 is undersized? He can easily add a few pounds if that's what you're worried about. BTW Derrick Thomas was 6'3" 245, and he's in the HOF, Ray Lewis same weight, and 3" shorter.

Depends on your height. If you can't look at Mingo and say he needs to bulk up, look again. Not really concerned about the weight but he definitely needs to get stronger.6'4" 240 is undersized? Depends on your body type. I can say this- I've met TJ Ward, and I can about guarantee you if you ever saw him in person, you'd never guess in a million years he's a stud NFL player.
People have the Idea you have to be around 260 to play OLB in today's NFL. I disagree. You can get stronger without adding bulk.
I'm one of those body types- I could go into a gym, lift weights 4 hours a day, and I'd never have an Atlas physique. -
