  • Sure why not? We have an active payroll for ex coaches going but Mangini just dropped off it as this would have been the 5th year of his deal. So there's a slot open for a nice salary for an ex coach. Might as well get our affirmative action in order and get a black man on that list to go with Shurm and Chud.

  • It's not a terrible idea. The guy had more success with the Bears than we've ever dreamed of having since 1999. I'd certainly not be opposed to it.

  • jon gruden. get poeticG all hot n bothered.

  • I want a coach with a dominant personality that has passion and exudes machismo.

A guy that will mold the team in their image, someone that isn't afraid to go off script and give an answer that isn't cookie cutter and "nfl pc".

  • Let's hire some up and coming coordinator and then fire him after one year.

    Zombo

  • I'm sure there's been a call made to Gruden. The only reason why I wouldn't hire Gruden is that there's only been 2 coaches in NFL history who have won a title with two different teams. The deck is stacked against him. But Lovie Smith isn't a bad choice. I'm sure he has something to prove.

sounds like your on board with some Gruden.

  • I was hoping they'd hire Lovie last year. The Browns really need to hire a coach with positive NFL experience. To me, that means Lovie Smith (or Shanahan if he is fired).

  • During Smith's tenure in Chicago he never fielded an Offense that ranked higher than 23.

He also only had one season worse than 7-9. In the past decade, the Browns only have one season equal or better than 7-9. He's as safe a bet as any I think.

  • and yet they managed to make the Super Bowl and won a boat load of games.

  • I'm worried that Gruden has been away far too long. He seems fat and happy to be on TV. Lovie has only been away one year, which should be just long enough to recharge his batteries and come out swinging. Lovie has done it in the NFL, and consistently. His teams were always well prepared, competitive and he won far more than he lost...........When was the last time Cleveland could say that?

  • like lovie smith. no problem here.

i say rehire mangini and rob ryan.

  • "When was the last time Cleveland could say that"??

    Probably around 1989.

    Exactly............................Damn I'm getting old

  • my only gripe with hiring lovie is that he may not agree with how horton runs the D. I do like Hortons style. I think lovie used to run a 4-3 so it may fit...

also wasn't norv here because chud hired and worked with his son...

Shit maybe norv will be the HC.

  • Lovie hasn't been rumored for anything so far as we head into the offseason but then again Chud wasn't really being considered for much going into last off season either.

Can't argue with that, I just don't think it's likely to happen, To me Smith is an 80-2010 era Coach and the game has headed in a different direction.

That old school coach did pretty well last year at 10-6.

  • Lovie? Least bad name mentioned here so far...
