Just curious, how do you see matchup up Shanahan and Manziel as "doing the same thing over and over again"? Just curious (If indeed that is what you meant).

  • Interesting, in college, Cousins was Hoyer's backup.

Several young qb's have had career days vs the Browns secondary.

It never crossed my mind that they were both from Michigan St. Nice catch.

    Who was the HC there?

  • I think we pretty much have Kirk Cousins already on our team ( a young smart QB we don't know much about) in Brian Hoyer...Keep Hoyer, draft a QB at #4

  • If this goes down and we trade for Cousins........give them Weedon, plus our last draft pic (#195)....that seems fair to me!! 🙂

  • We should take one look at RG3 busted leg and leave this Shanahan/Manziel idea well alone

You mean like Hoyer? RG3 busted leg is a function of him not sliding. Manziel isnt a running QB, I am not advocating for Manziel its just a bogus comparison in my opinion. And remember RG3 was playing when he shouldnt have been, thats on the HC.

  • Cousins was a 4th round pick, and this drexel guy thinks we should

trade a first round pick to get him?

    Really.

Maybe a 4th rounder.... Maybe even a third, depending.

Maybe a sixth or seventh- same as we got for McCoy

The only thing that recommends Cousins here over Hoyer would be that, if Shanahan comes here, he "knows" Cousins.

The other thing is that this writer...who seems to be pro Redskins, seems to be advocating that the Redskins "Rip Off" the Browns....because the Browns have picks. The implication is that the Browns are stupid. Well Lombardi may be stupid indeed....but I would hope he is not so stupid as to trade a very high pick for Cousins.

To me, at most, he MAY be worth a 3rd round pick.

If the Browns wanted to show some interest I would offer a 6th rounder....and tell him he still has to compete with Hoyer and our first round QB.

Manziel isn't a running quarterback? Have you ever even bothered to watch him play? He cut down on his running to a mere 750 yards last year, but he still had 2,100+ for his career- he had more yards rushing in 2012 than Carlos Hyde.

Yep, and he'll be running for his life in the NFL........... Literally, not figuratively.

  • I'm not sure why we would go that route. We are looking for a franchise QB and we have enough draft picks to take a stab at one. There is nothing I have seen from Cousins that tells me he's going to be any better than Hoyer will be. Hoyer plus a pick seems to be the ticket to me.

We have enough draft picks to get Andrew Luck out of Indianapolis? Cuz there aint a franchise quarterback in this batch...

Also doesn't it seem like Johnny Manziel and Kyle Shanahan would butt heads??? And as far as that goes the guys on the radio are suggesting Rex Grossman comes to Cleveland.

Well, perhaps you are convinced of that but I'm thinking our front office would like the chances of one of this year's first round prospects better than a 5th round prospect from two years ago with a spotty performance record ... just because he has been coached by the offensive coordinator (if, indeed, he is the guy).

Cousins and Grossman will make fine back ups, but I certainly wouldn't trade anything of significance for either of them ...especially when we already have 3 QBs of Backup-quality on the roster.

I'm pretty sure we'll take a stab at a starter in this draft ... even if Westside Steve finds the batch weak.

---Now, if we were talking IPA's ... I would take your word for it.

  • I understand you've grown fond of Johnny football (and I'm happy to admit I know more about beer then football)

but all I can do is read and listen to the guys that write this shit for a living. I'm not hearing any of the big boys singing the praises of any of these four guys.

Is there a chance that one of them might turn out to be a superstar? Sure. But just from what be pregnant caters: have to say the best chance is billed water and he's not near the class of Elway or Luck.

Heck maybe Po G will be the guy that guesses right?

I actually like Bridgewater better than Johnny. And lager better than IPA.

Well, I know it's a chance, but I'd really take that chance that it might be fool's gold, rather than trading for Kurt cousins to be the starter and just being an outright fool.

The guy went in the 4th round and hasn't done anything to tell us he's any better than that.

I'd take one of the guys on our roster, Hoyer, over him ... and we don't have to trade anything for him.

But in the end, I take a shot at Bridgewater (or Johhny Walker or Bortles & James ... whoever it is that they love the most ... roll the dice again until we get it right.)

Well we can't tank 2-3 years and hope a Luck comes along, this is the draft we have gotta make the best of it.

Bridgewater is the best QB in this draft though, and the only one I'd spend a top 5 pick on. book it 😉

    the dude is a twig.

unless he is playing behind denver's OL then get ready for snap, crackle and pop.

  • I don't know what the speculation is here Hoyer will be under center with a 3500 yard season

personnel wise they match up. Peyton Manning makes those guys look great. Pretty sure they lost two of their top lineman in training camp, including the center, and never missed a beat...
  • I could see something as high as of one of our thirds and a conditional 2015 pick for Cousins, but that's it. He flashed magic in 2012 (101.6 rating), but not so much in 2013 (58.4 rating). I think that in part the sharp decline in 2013 was due to the team quitting on Daddy Shanahan late in the season after he "shut down" RG3. This versus 2012 when the 'Skins were in the proverbial hunt.

But I have a feeling that Kubiak may like Cousins quite a bit. Cousins seems like a more polished TJ Yates, who Kub's really liked in Houston.

As for Grossman... no... He's had a career full of teams that thought they could wring good play out of him. Now he's a 3rd stringer. Who needs a veteran, journeyman third stringer? That's a young pup slot... a project kinda guy...
