Luck didn't really get drafted to a crappy team - with manning they were playoff contenders, had to go with crappy QB play for a year and got beaten every week, then took Luck and became a playoff team again. I'd say RG3 got drafted to a worse team.

Right. The Colts did a purposeful dive just to get Luck. It was purely dishonest on their part, but the league allowed them to get away with it.

I think the Colts example just shows how important a QB really is, without Manning they were awful, lost. With a good QB they could compete, you can't win without one and ignoring the position makes no sense to me.

Yea, but I don't think they were as bad as they showed. They obviously were nowhere near as good, but they also tanked to get that bad.

  • the colts w/o manning was the like the browns with weeden behind center.

So you're saying that with the right QB next year this team could go 11-5 or so?

  • >>>>>>>>>>>Not upgrading at QB will set us back as much as missing on a guy at 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<<<<<<<<<

But making a bad choice at 4 means we miss out on upgrading the quarterback and getting a good player. And it means we're stuck with the bum for years. And, lots of ands arent there, odds are great against any of the top 3 being blue chip quarterbacks.

Much more than the odds against the top line backer receiver or tackle.

In your opinion the odds are great none are blue chippers. In my opinion these top 3 are better prospects than any QBs last year, and possibly next year. Even if we hit on the top WR or LB, theres a chance we pick top 5 again next year. If we hit on the QB were battling for a playoff spot. I think our roster is in the perfect spot to take a gamble on a QB.

Well like I always say that's why they bet on these games. If you are in fact correct in your opinion then that would be the way to go.

Every team has holes, the QB is the most important hole to fill, we also haev close to 50 million in cap space to address some of thoes holes prior to the draft.

not as many as seattle did when they drafted wilson, or san fran when they drafted kaep.

the only QB that got drafted recently to a shitty team was luck, but none of these guys could sniff his jock. RG3 hasn't won shit because the redskins are full of holes and got hurt the first year when he tried to be 'the running QB'. then they said you have to stay in the pocket and he sucked.

and that Indy team wasn't eve really all that shitty they just tanked for Luck the year Peyton was injured.

    same here.

to all the people that say "wah! i don't understand the people that don't want a QB wah! wah with our first pick wah!!

doesn't it make sense to have the team QB-ready when we do throw all of our chips on the table? this team is no where near that. our right side of the OL is like running through (for defenders) open barn doors. we don't have a #2 corner, we need another safety, another ILB, we need a RB and a big time WR. so that's 5 holes that need to be filled with NFL ready guys. so maybe we use more than half of the other picks to draft up in certain situations.

giving the ball right now to any of these guys will end up with them being the next tim couch (even though we DO have a LT now).

BUILD THE TEAM!! hand the reigns over to the next pretty boy next year and have hoyer ride it out this year. who knows he might surprise everyone and there is NO reason that you just dismiss a guy because YOU want your boy toy.

will you all applaud when johnny gets plowed into the ground like couch did?

Fine, "IF" some of those holes get filled than we can move around some picks. But I'm really not sure we're gonna be getting a whole lot of FA signings...i really don't, nobody wants to come here. To get people here we have to do things like overpay Baltimore support pieces by 4m or more. ie Kruger. Sure, we'll get people to come here for double their market value. That doesn't work.

  • The Colts have to be the most notorious tankers in the history of the NFL.

Think about it, 4 generations 4 top picks on blue chip QBs... Elway,Jeff George,Manning & Luck.

  • A rebuild is a 4-5 year plan.

    That's how Seattle did it...

That's how the Giants did it..

That's how SF is doing it..

That's how Baltimore HAS been doing it..

That's how Steelers HAVE DONE it..

It starts with a SOLID Defense. A top flight Defense wins AWAY PLAYOFF games....

  • I really question there being a franchise QB in this draft, so here's what I posted elsewhere.

I don't know about mock drafts, am no expert, & certainly have NO idea what Farmer et al are thinking, BUT here are my thoughts as a Fan both in FA & the draft:

We need a guard (draft or FA), a vet QB (FA), & a CB 6' or taller (few & far between in this draft-maybe FA?).

In the draft, I'll just toss out a few specific names/situations with which I would be pleased to see in Cleveland. As far as players (in no particular order), I feel a few of these could land in Cleveland due to where they may be drafted:
Situation: Either stay at 4 OR trade down (possibly to #8 w/Vikes + their 2nd rounder?). I'm NOT a fan of trading up.
Players: QB: Manziel (but draft another QB (like Murray or Fales)"just in case", Garoppolo, McCarron
WR: M Lee, Cooks, Landry...Benjamin has too many drops & no chance for Watkins with other needs-we have a #1 in Gordon
    RB: Mason, Seastrunk, Hyde
    LB: K Mack, Skov, Borland

Certainly there are other needs, but I think it's possible, with where our picks are, that we could get 3, maybe even 4 of these guys in Cleveland. Almost as certainly, the experts will laugh at my thoughts/opinions, but that's ok too.

    We'll know what happens in 71, 72, & 73 days.

Plueeeeze..... Mariotta and Winston would push any of the qbs your salivating over down to #3 on the list. Hit on a qb? I'm with Mik- we have a guard that sucks (Lauvao),No height at the #2 CB spot, a hole as big as the Grand Canyon @ ILB now that Jackson is gone and Robertson has proven he's a backup at best, no running back to speak of, and an upgrade need @ #2 wr. No guarantees at this point we keep both Mack and Ward either. You think Manziel or anyone else in this draft can overcome that? Especially if Lobotomy was still in charge tossing away draft picks to take a flyer on one of these guys?

you finally get it dabuckeye? it's about opinions here. you say yours is right i say mine is right and we'll never get to agree on it because we are stuck in our ways.

of course RIGHT NOW everyone (analysts and anal fans) have these top 3 guys listed above the 16th pick last year with the first QB being chosen in manuel. but wtf? what does that really mean? in your opinion these 3 guys will turn out better than manuel? you won't know that until 5 years down the road.

it depends on what you consider a reach. If youre scouts have a guy at 11-12 on their big board and you take him at 4, I dont consider that a reach. Now if QB goes 1-2-3 and we take Carr 4, even though hes say, 36 on the board, thats a reach. In the grand scheme of things, what does it matter if we take Manziel 4th ot 11th?
