The Browns Board

  • New here as well, I can tell you that the number of Brown's fans in Texas has exploded in the last 12 hours.

A few things on Johnny as someone that has watched him since HS, most of which people don't realize:

He is very smart. Johnny had the highest Wonderlic score of the prospect QB's and he was in A&M's highly ranked B School prior to his Heisman with a high GPA. This isn't some athlete that just gets it done on physical skills, he learns quickly and is a student of the game.

Every year Johnny has become less of a freewheeler. In HS his offense was basically "give the ball to Johnny and let him improvise" and he took a team with virtually nothing around him deep in the playoffs until they lost to the eventual state champs in a shootout. He started that way at A&M but after working with George Whitfield after his RS year he has become much stronger fundamentally and less of a runner every year.

He's barely 21 years old. He is not a finished product by any means.

He's a great team guy. All of his teammates love him and would take a bullet for him. He is in early and out late and is obsessed with football and winning. He ALWAYS credits his teammates and pumps them up. The media talks about him but Johnny doesn't, notice after he was picked last night he wanted to talk about his teammates that were picked before him and how happy he was for them.

He is probably the most confident person on the face of the planet. Many think he must be cocky but in reality he is just very comfortable in his own skin and very confident in his abilities. He does his thing and he isn't doing it to impress others, he just does what he wants. Still at the same time he is surprisingly humble and he understands that football is still a game. I've never seen anyone quite like him, he is truly one of a kind in terms of personality.

He has a deep affection for kids, especially sick or disabled kids. He wears a "Charley's Angels" bracelet for a kid with cancer that went to the draft with him (he is the one he was hugging in the maroon Aggie shirt as he walked off). He got to know Charley before he even had the starting job at A&M as well so it isn't a show.

Everyone watches the highlights of his crazy plays but he actually stays in the pocket and slices up offenses most of the time. He actually had the best pocket completion % of any FBS QB last year at over 70%. He just also can throw really well on the run and puts immense pressure on a defense because they can never know what he might do.

Johnny was a legit prospect at baseball as well. What is unusual though is he was a shortstop, not a pitcher like most QB's. That's part of the reason he can make so many off balance throws and can throw against his body so well, it's something he did in baseball all his life.

Despite being under 6' Johnny can do a 360 dunk with a basketball.

The 2 games that most detractors point to for Johnny are the LSU and Missouri games this year. What is less spoken about is Johnny had a fractured thumb he was trying to play through in those games and it greatly affected his accuracy. He broke it hitting a helmet in the Auburn game on a throw in the pocket btw, a freak injury. Trying to keep him off the field though is not easy, he is insanely competitive.

Johnny is more quick than fast and really elusive. He's got good speed but he isn't like RGIII. Johnny seems to have a 6th sense to pressure though and he will absolutely juke people silly. He has incredible balance and is much stronger than most realize. He's hard to hit and the main focus will be more on getting him to not go for the extra yard than anything else. Johnny also has an incredible sense of where his receivers are at all times and he will boggle your mind with how he seems to find a receiver on the other side of the field that he didn't even look that way until he threw the ball. The game just moves at a different speed for him.

The biggest negative on Johnny going to Cleveland imo is he tends to not do as well in bad weather as the LSU and Missouri games this year were also cold and rainy. That said, he also set what was at the time the SEC Total Offense record (which he later broke) in the rain against Arkansas as a Freshman. He will need to adjust some and the groundskeepers in Cleveland need to do all they can to keep the field in top shape.

First, let's get this straight... with one exception, none of you Johnny-Football-come-latelys are Browns fans.

    You weren't Wednesday...

After a week you will not be heard from again until training camp opens...

And had any of 18 other NFL teams deemed your boy worthy enough, you would not be here now.

    We Browns fans would be...

The one exception was a noob named H-Town Brown. In his very first post he introduced himself as a Manziel fan and then asked the forum to help him get to know the Browns. THAT is a new Browns fan in the making.

Farmer said in December he wanted Manziel--it was reported last night, so claiming it was Haslams pick, even after Haslam said he wouldn't interfere (which the Anti-Manziel clan used to support their arguments that the Browns would pass on Manziel) is just denial.

Denial ain't jus a river in Egypt kids.

Drunk? Stoned? Both? Or just more fumes? Your post makes no sense, Mr. PFWA. That we drafted Manziel is now a fact. No one is denying it.

But yes, I hoped that the Haslam statement put to rest the hope that JM was coming to Cleveland... not afraid to admit it.

Talk about spin... such an air of confidence now. The likes of which we did not see for 18 picks, or roughly 2 hours of Round 1. Never a doubt... right, MikeHole? LOL...

But if you stay, chew on this a while and I'll be happy to discuss it with you.

While I genuinely believe that JM will not see the field Week 1 except for warm-ups... I'll go further than that.

If I ever do that fucking stupid move, TC, then I will send you a certified check for $10,000. You have my word on it...

With the money, I'll buy you Manziel jersey and a shot and a beer.

I have to let everyone know now, however- I have one eye on the Jags now. I've been looking for another team to keep tabs on as far as writing about and they won. They could be very interesting next year.

  • If nothing else works, draft the human version of your mascot to play QB.

    Go Flying J's!!!

  • Hoorta, how do you feel about Gordon?

  • The best thing, now that they drafted Manziel, as long he keeps his

    #2....

is that I finally can get my two Tim Couch jerseys fixed with his name, and wear them !

JF won't know the offense, and NFL defenses, etc, well enough to start.

I haven't seen it, but the Browns do, and they drafted him.

And all the stuff about him since, is very impressive. He isn't all about himself

at all. I'm now a JCleveland fan now. But Hoyer will start the season, no reason

to throw JF to the wolves. I think that would be really dumb.

  • They're in a great position really... I'm sure Hoyer will "win" the job just long enough to not throw Johnny to the wolves... first three games then a bye week and he will start week 6

  • Manziel coming out and beating the Steelers in Pittsburgh week 1 is a nice story and all but Lebeu losing to rookie QB's doesn't happen let alone their first game ever.

Ya, sorry about that guys, but we had so many threads I had to merge a bunch to keep all of the topics on the front page.

I'm still on page three trying to catch up ...

    Zombo

  • Is Manziel already the anointed starter? please share what you think. A battle. Hoyer's job to lose. Or, Manziel is the top dog. . .

  • Here we go ...

    Zombo

  • Manziel will start day 1.

Hoyer is not even cleared for contact.

The throngs will call for Johnny, and Johnny they will get... or they'll tear the fucking stadium down.

You don't draft Elvis Presley in his prime and sit him behind Justin 'Beaver'.

    ---------------------

They should have just drafted Watkins, Carr and Hyde.

  • At this point, Hoyer is # 1. Nfl veteran, and sure he's recovering from a torn ACL, but experience of the game, the speed, ability to read a defense, familiarity with players all count for something. I saw one ridiculous post that Manziel is the starter immediately cause he has more talent. I guess knowing the playbook isn't important.

Hell, at this point, I'd even given Vince Young the nod on 2nd string. Former rookie of the year, 2 time pro bowler, 60+ win percentage.

As a fanbase, and as a coaching staff, I pray there is an extreme level of patience. But somehow ... I seriously doubt it will happen.

"I'm low man on the totem pole." = Johnny Manziel

  • Who cares. Is this the crap you want to talk about for 4 months? Do you also enjoy reading celebrity gossip magazines? Same crap at this point.

  • Oh god... months now of JF being football Jesus

    Hoyer will start.

  • I don't think we will see Manziel start against the Steelers. I'd give him some time to learn the NFL system. I wouldn't want him to go on the disabled list after one game.

  • Vince Young can barely grasp a pen to write his name, much less an NFL offense. I'd be surprised if he even makes the roster.

I don't know much about Hoyer, but I'd be surprised if Johnny didn't start. He is a competitor -- and I don't think you trade up for a guy in the first to sit him.

  • Every defense we play against is going to be going after him. His celebrity is probably not well liked by other teams. I would let him get some snaps, but not start initially no matter how quick he learns.

  • DieHard has had that JF dick in his mouth for awhile now, but even he is realistic about JF starting lol. Good to see

  • Vince Young can barely grasp a pen to write his name, much less an NFL offense. I'd be surprised if he even makes the roster.
