  • I haven't read from my post back, but I just saw this news and couldn't be happier. Not sure how the rest of you feel, but I'm happy with Farmer and as I said many times in the Tavern during the draft, Ray knows what he's doing and we'll be fine without Puffy............ I'm sure the sky is falling crowd will loudly disagree.

OK, particulars anyone? What is his height weight speed etc. past stats, contract terms etc.

Gipper why do you not know who miles Austin is?

I know who he is. I just didn't memorize his height/weight/speed etc. or all of his statistics over the years.

I may be a mentat but I am not omniscient.

Gipper it's the interwebs. We're all omniscient.

  • Considering who was still availible to sign, when I saw that we did in fact sign him, I was so god damn happy.

  • Great signing, hope he can stay away from the hammoes and turf toe

  • Bad news...Austin pulled a hamstring signing the contract.

  • His hand went stiff when using a Viagra pen to sign the deal .....

  • I guess Kanye won't be autotuning the nation anthem for us this year.

Well that's worth signing him for right there!

original shit right there. You sucked a dick while you typed bad news.

  • great move, low risk / high reward which are the best type of moves outside of guarenteed studs which their aren't that many of. He has battled injuries but its not like he is a walking gimp. He played through a couple and hasn't had any complete seasons wiped out. Since his breakout seasons when he blew up coming off the bench and in overtime (I think it was @KC, could be wrong) he has started 58 out of 73 games. He's missed about 3 games a year on average which if the Browns get even 10-12 games of a healthy Austin's production it will make a big impact on the team. Also, alot of his catches went down when Bryant became the no.1 receiver. Romo locks onto Bryant alot because he is so good and can make amazing plays even if covered. I'm not a big Romo fan and don't want to harp on it too much but I feel if Austin had a better QB he would have been a little more productive the past couple years. Not that Cleveland's QB will outperform Romo THIS season but I do think Austin, being a vet and being pretty steady when he is in the lineup can be a very good weapon for a young QB (whether Hoyer or Manziel) to have. It will definetly help buy a year if Gordon has to sit all 16 games and get the Browns to next season when they will have the draft picks to add some talent as a longer term solution. I think Austin still has a couple decent years left in him even if they are 10-12 game seasons and he has shown that he occassionaly can stay on the field for all the games, again its not like he's just an injury waiting to happen like he's Dan Morgan.

  • All these moves might be great but it doesn't take away the mistake made in the second round of the draft. Farmer needed to take a talented WR and not an OG. OG's were available in the third round.

Hehe- we should have take Watkins @ #4. Nah- I can't fault Farmer much. RG was a total mess last year. If Gordon is gone for the year, hard to see the Browns as a playoff team anyway.

  • That second round mistake was probably the smartest and safest pick in our draft. Joel B is nasty throw back blue collar tough SOB. Any wr we would have taken was not guaranteed to start this year anyway. Look at how a 2nd round wr in our past has turned out. It takes 2 to 3 years for a guy to figure the game out. We didnt reach for a wr becuase we are going to have a smash mouth run game. Believe in it man, its here!

  • Does anyone know the length of these new wr deals. Because if Gordon is only out 8 games and we still have these guys, our WR core will be outright fun to watch.

  • Jeez, 4 pages for Miles already. (Minus the Kardashian banter.)

I for one am happy about this signing. More than any other receiver we signed this offseason so far. IF he stays healthy, yes. I'm surprised we got him actually...and then with an appropriate contract of low guarantee...again Farmer shows he kicks ass at this GM gig.

And qbs were available in the 7th round. That's a poor analysis...it's about specific players and relative value.

How would a 2nd round WR help us THIS YEAR? Rookies rarely contribute in their first season. Adding these vets is an extension of Haslam and Farmer's Win-Now approach...

  • exactly. Miles Austin and Earl Bennett are better for us in the short term than even the mighty Watkins woulda been.

I'd settle for an identifiable run game.

So you'd like Shaw better had we spent a 7th on him?

Well... we had a good run of agreement, but all good things must come to an end.

    Now if you'd said "Austin + Bennett + Gilbert + (Buff's 2015 1st & 5th) vs. Watkins", then I'd likely have agreed... unless I was in a bad mood.
