There is that, yes, never heard of the guy. And the logic that because he's British I should agree with whatever he has to say is, shall we say, somewhat flawed.

C'mon Chris, for sure everyone of the same race/nationality/religion/etc is a clone of those in their respective groups!

  • First, chris, I never said I didn't respect islam. As usual I straddle the fence on the issue. I'm terribly terribly interested in history and thus have a pretty fair base of kknowledge of Islamic history. I've known many many very pleasant muslims specifically during my time in new york city where I frequented Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn where there was a quite large muslim community adjacent to where I worked and even though at that point I was newly out of the service we managed to be quite cordial to each other and I would frequently enter their stores, unbearded and bold and purchase goods from them.

Second: 120 scholars is a drop in the hat buddy. The middle east needs to rise up against them and destroy them not cower in fear. It's THEIR lives which are most at risk and yet they are doing a really poor job of fighting for them and abroad where isis is making gains with the disenfranchised youth the elders are doing a shit job of containing it.

  • I'm not going to pretend I know who's who in the muslim world - maybe Osiris can help - but:

he letter’s authors include well-known religious and scholarly figures in the Muslim world, including Sheikh Shawqi Allam, the grand mufti of Egypt, and Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, the mufti of Jerusalem and All Palestine

That would seem to me to be some people with about as much authority as anyone to speak on it.

  • 😆 hahaha

So because someone doesn't know who your lover boy is, they must somehow be at odds with the opinions of said lover boy?

  • Someone should buy you a Jump-To-Conclusions mat for Christmas.

You are correct, these are the top leaders in the Muslim world, particularly the grand mufti of Egypt as the educational center of Islam is Al-Azhar University in Egypt. What Cisco is asking for, I presume as he comes from a military background, is a call to arms from moderate Muslims to fight the extremists. I actually agree wholeheartedly with him in spirit. I'm just not optimistic it will ever happen. Where will this movement come from? Where will they get weapons? Who will train them? Keep in mind the governments of these countries will oppose, not support, them. Many people in the middle-east have been tamed into submission by the dictator overlords the USA has supported over the years. So it falls on the governments that have controlled the people to combat ISIL and their ilk.

Another huge problem in the ME is one of unity. Years of divide & conquer there, combined with lack of resources that promotes competition over cooperation, have led to Arab countries being able to unite against the terrorist threat as effectively as everyone would like. Unfortunately, It is ingrained in the very fabric of the culture now.

  • haha you mustve graduated from being a Yahoo top commenter?

  • check that - craigslist "rants and raves".....

  • I don't know anything about craigslist "rants and raves". So i guess that means I have an issue with it?

  • and the insult too apparently

  • So, most Muslims are afraid to speak out, and go to war and fight

this cancer on the Muslim religion, because back in the day,

the United States did anything over there?

Odd, the nazis went on to become a world threat like isis, and the German

people were afraid, when it all came about, to speak out and fight that cancer,

and it wasn't because the big bad United States supported any "loverlords"

    in Germany.

Come on, man. The Muslim world over there is a confused, hijacked mess. In the face

of such hideous violence, and men, women and children being tortured and slaughtered,

so many in the Iraqi army deserted. So many simply became subservient to the nazi's

    violence and power and control.

And, the nazis got their extreme violence, and anti-Semitism, and ruthless genocidal ideas from...

    "Muslim" extremists terrorists.

Not exactly what I said. There is plenty of responsibility to go around, and it primarily rests on the shoulders of the people that live there. But to deny the role the Brits and later the USA played in it is to turn a blind eye and fail to be introspective and to fail to understand the history of the middle-east over the past 100+ years.

I'm not sure where you are getting the idea the "Muslim" terrorists influenced the Nazi's. That's a new one to me.

  • Sorry, I ran across that stuff years ago - it's extremists claiming to be Muslims, know what I'm sayin...

    Here's just two links:

And, you are right, though. There are a few movies out there, old classics, that
explain how bad the British were, when they oversaw Palestine.
And American interference? Sure. But I don't see that as part of the reason
for .... you know. Obviously, I could be wrong about that.
The one movie, very excellent, was "Sword in the Desert" on Turner Classic Movies.
The British enforced a quota, out of convenience, of Jews being allowed to return
to Palestine. I haven't watched the other one I recorded yet, but it's an eye-opener.
I never knew about that time in history over there....
The British military over there...were not the good guys. To the Palestinians, either.
  • Yeah my country did some shitty things.

  • I tend to take motion picture historical accounts with a huge pile of grains of salt no matter what the subject matter might be.

Directors producers and screenwriters are not necessarily bound to historical accuracy.

I would also assume that anyone with the wherewithal and desire to make a motion picture probably has a definite opinion one way or the other and can easily craft the film to support whichever side that may be.

    WSS

  • We only know what the writers and producers wanted us to know. Other then first hand accounts, that is all we have.

  • Yeah my country did some shitty things.
