By the numbers: Bengals vs Browns (Matchups)

The Browns Board
33 18 1.3k
  • Like bbed said in another thread, they won't show up until Sunday night IF the Bungals win. Huge game for both teams Sunday, and they aren't showing up. They suck more than I thought.

  • I seriously can't see Dalton doing anything through the air, if Bungles are marginally close to winning it's because they run all over the Browns and Johnny turns the ball over frequently.

I am very confident. I think the Browns roll. Wouldn't be surprised if 24-10. Browns D will own those wimps.

Am I crazy thinking 8-4-1 is overachieving dramatically for the bungles? I feel like they are a lot worse than that

They are the worst team in the division

So? By your reckoning the Browns should be a one point favorite?

So... I could've just said that. Instead of putting all these numbers on a thread and wasting everybody's time who reads it... damn...

There was a difference. You analyzed about a baker's dozen different factors.....and you found that the Browns held the edge in those factors by a majority of one factor. Browns had edge in 7, Cinci in 6. But what I was wondering is if you used that edge in factors as a basis to say "Browns favored by one point".....or, as I probably should assume, the factor edge does not relate to a point edge. Maybe each factor could account for a three point differential. Like when they say the home team gets 3 points on the betting line for being at home.

Is there a translation there on this?

  • those numbers will change as if vegas just ate a big plate of greasy gravy (spaghetti sauce for all you mid-westerners) on a load of under-cooked linguini.

it looked good and tasted good but there's a bubble starting to form in it's stomach and it might have to get rid of it...MINUS MINUS...oh wait, there's a solid here..PLUS PLUS.

Is that how you view Cincinnati Chili?

You know you're on to something. I havn't seen a Bungle troll all week. Something fishy about that?

  • yep.....the Bungle fans have all thrown in the towel and are generally pretty angry right now.....not feeling too confident....hard to be smug, when your team sucks(we should know)....😉

4 factors - OvsD, DvsO, Scoring, TOs

Scoring being most heavily weighted, then the OvsD stats, then TOs

Browns win by one point in scoring, tie in both OvsD matchups. TO differential could be used as a tiebreaker.

The "Browns by 1 point" was based soley on the scoring advantage for team averages. I would add/subtract points based on the OvsD matchups if they were significant. I could also add-in the Vegas +3 at home advantage, and say...

Browns should be favored by 4... But without the home field advantage, I'll say 1 point...

Again, just MY numbers... There's no science here, just me having too much time on my hands trying to figure out which statistcs can help predict games (so far, as many times as I've tried I have been unsuccessful)...

    No problem. Good stuff.

But just out of curiosity....what is the betting line?

Split. Most have PK, some have Bengals favored (-1).

  • The important number has changed... we've gone from an opening 2-point "dog" to 1-point fav.

Every time I have picked against the Vegas opening line when betting has flipped it, it has not turned out well...

  • I went with the Browns over the Colts because of the D & I'm still upset. Now I am going with the Browns over the Bengals because of the D. :-I Dalton is not Andrew Luck, therefore, he will not fool the D. I have not seen the D play a bad game yet, even in the losses. The losses were close until bad offensive turnovers late made the scores look lopsided. As usual, they will give into the run in order to lock down the air attack. I also expect a defensive touchdown by the Browns or at least a turnover in the Bengals zone that yeilds a TD. That said, i will give a scenario in which the Browns DO NOT win this game. The D will help Johnny, but he still needs to score a few touchdowns (obviously). Too many 3 & outs, stalled drives &/or field goals will not work (besides field goals are anything but guarenteed anymore.) Also, Johnny is a rookie so I guarantee he will turn the ball over at least once. I don't care how good he is, he's still a rookie & will cough up 1. If it's just once, there will be no harm done. If it's more than that, it will most likely swing the game in Cincy's favor. If the Bengals make it close because of multiple offensive mistakes, the Browns will not win. Bengals will get the field goal they need to put them over the top. If he turns the ball over once or less, & gets the offense at least 2 TD's, I believe that will be enough with another stellar performance from the D.

  • It all depends on the redhead. If he does even average at qb it should be a game. If the Browns d forces a turnover and gets a sack early, game over. Bengals run game is their only life force to set up the pass.

Hopefully our d keeps improving and doesn't shit the bed. I doubt they will against the bungles again. They should be fucking fired up to kick their assess again
