What receiver do we go after in draft/FA?

Great call my friend. He might not be the biggest guy in the world but he's quick and versatile.

Have watched as much of him as I can the past two years and have not been disappointed.

My only concern is some overlap with Hawkins but that's a problem I'd gladly deal with.

    Lockett = chocolate Jordy Nelson?

More like Randall Cobb if you ask be. Jordy is a prototypical outside receiver with the skills to play in the slot. Lockett is a prototypical slot receiver with the ability to play out wide.

  • Lockett would be a steal if he is still there for our 4th pick. I suspect we got DL, OL and ILB first.

Another I'd take is Crowder out a Duke-very underrated but had equal value to his team-clutch on 3rd downs. Be a good late rounder.

  • Many mysteries here. Cameron injury history is scary. I want Austin back & go after a young (28 & under) vet WR. There are a number in FA. To me, the biggest issue is not money, but who will sign here?

In the draft, many rookies don't immediately contribute heavily due to route running & learning the offense, so I would look at big guys with good hands who might help in the red zone & on 3rd down jump balls while they are learning.

And you to follow behind the parade with a shovel with which to clean up the elephant shit.

  • We pick at 12= WR White or Danny Shelton. We pick at 19= WR Funchess or WR Coats. We pass on(Peat, Clemmings, Flowers, Collins, Erving and Cann on OL. We pick at 43= WR Green-Beckem, J. Strong, N. Agholor, Devin Smith and T. Lippett. We pass on D. Perryman and many other needs. We pick at 77 and there is the STEAL Tyler Lockett WR and we pass on Trey Depriest ILB, Laken Tominson OG, Corey Robinson OT and WR Ty Montgomery. AND YES I KNOW IT'S STILL EARLY 😆

    Nice. Some Funchess love

  • With the 23rd pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select... Devin Funchess, Wide Receiver, Michigan - 8/2/14

Why would you have them taking him 23rd, when they pick 12 and 19?

  • Look at the date on it. I said that in August. I didn't know when we (or the Bills) would be picking

  • I say we draft Dorial Green-Becham and pair him with Josh Gordon, that way we have two elite talent, big receivers, who cannot stay on the field. Go Browns!!

Can't be worse then whomever we waste our picks on lol.

  • First and second round: OL, DL, QB in some order.

After that, BPA. Green-Beckham will probably be there in the third. I'd comsider pulling the trigger there only after the OL and DL have been addressed.

  • If Green-Beckham is available at 19 you make the move if not stay put with what you have and take a chance on Kenny Britt.

Unfortunately Funchess is a lot like Braylon Edwards. Not saying he can't be very good but we know what happens to WRs in Cleveland with the drops.

Not at all. Unfortunately if they don't significantly upgrade the QB position, which I don't think they will, it makes no sense signing a FA WR to a large contract where you could use that cap money elsewhere. I don't see Jeremy Maclin or Demarius Thomas at $80 million really putting the Browns in playoff contention.

Braylon, in college, was much better than Funchess. Braylon was a dominant WR from the beginning at Michigan. He also holds the Browns record for TDs in a season and did have the record for yards until Gordon broke it. This idea that Braylon was some bust WR for the Browns is laughable. It is a shame is career was derailed by knee injuries.

Funchess has one season of WR under his belt. He is raw. He is basically a matchup nightmare with circus catch ability. He could work on his hands, no doubt, but he has a high ceiling. He also played this last season injured (and missed a few games) for an ankle injury. That didn't help his ability to move at all. That's without getting into the inconsistent QB play and shotty coaching.

I believe Funchess' stock will be heavily influenced by the combine. There isn't a ton of film on him. Even though he ended on a high note against OSU, he needs a strong combine performance. Come and and perform well in the drills, and run fast than expected, and he could be back in the first, instead of the early 2nd like he is now.

Braylon wasn't a bust but 23 drops in 2008 basically ushered him out of Cleveland. I agree that Funchess will be another "combine" guy and that scares me. I love the discussion of the Hoodie and Edleman, "I'm not sure what position you can play but I do know you can play football". For every Dontari Poe there seems to be 5 Courtney Browns.

I think he is a combine guy in the sense that there isn't a lot of film on him at WR. He's kind of an unknown. As opposed to combine guys that we have a lot of film on, and then just have a great combine.

But you feel it wise to bring in another WR with drug and personality issues?

I wasn't aware Braylon caught the ball with his knees?

You know me tiamat63 I'm all about the contracts and cap space and with the rookie wage scale Beckham-Green would be cheap. If he is as advertised, stays straight, and Josh gets it straight, you could possibly have 2 #1 type WR in 2016 for a total cap hit of $3 million which is about a third of what a Jeremy Maclin will run you in free agency. If they both stink you look at WR in 2016 when hopefully you have an answer at QB.

I'd take paying Maclin because at least that kid is on the field. However a cap hit for a pair of receivers with questionable personal and professional choices scares me.

Also, the cap isn't the only thing to consider. If Beckham doesn't get his house in order and you take him at 19 - then you've wasted yet another 1st round pick.

  • Catching up here:

    Braylon:

Physically gifted underachiever. Had one great year (coincidental with DA's only one) and 2 good ones.

    Green-Beckham:

Will never see the 3rd round unless he tries to snort the 50 yard-line at the Combine.

Will never be worth the risk of a 1st round pick... even by a team inclined to spend 1sts on WRs, which is not us.

Macklin and other $$$ FA WRs:

Not going to happen. Strictly flying economy class at WR.

Re-up Austin. Shorts is a good fit. One personal fav I'd like to see added is Sanzenbacher.

    TE:

Similar to replacing TJ with Whitner and DQ with Dansby, I'm looking for a solid signing here not named Cameron... up to and including a big splash in Thomas.
