Mike Iupati. Give him his asking price and watch the running game go.

  • He's a nastier Alan Faneca in his prime.

Meanwhile the rest of our offensive lineman have settled comfortably into a ZBS with a stretch running game. Develop a totally different approach based off of one player

that, while a great run blocker - is very suspect in pass pro.

    And.... moving on.

Does he play Right Guard? That would be the position we would need him for.

  • He Is a left guard, and what running scheme does Flip want to run? If it is power then sign this man if it is zone stick with the chemistry the line will have when Big Mack comes back.

  • I got the impression he'd retain the ZBS. He's a passing guy, from what I understand, in his first OC gig - if the run game ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Can you say, "Tim Manoa"?

Fullback? I thought he was OL. We have Bitonio at LG.....or is this guy flexible enough...i.e. good enough... to switch from LG to RG?

No, Manoa was a FB from the Shottenheimer or Belichick era.

The guy mentioned above - his picture and his description - reminded my of Manoa.

See how good he was...............................? Even the chronicler of Browns' history doesn't recall his vast contributions.

    PS I bet Furnier would.

No he's not going anywhere and I have no clue why people are talking as if we'd replace him.....he rated out as the #11 guard(either side)in the league and #7 RG overall......

We need a back up, who can double as center.....but definitely dont need a new guard on either side...

I didn't see a picture of him. I guess there are both Samoan? Unless Iuputi...whatever...is Greek, which means he could be Minoan.

No, I just assumed that if there was one OL position the Browns were looking to go after to be a starter it would be at RG.

Really? There are 6 RGs ahead of Greco, but only 4 LGs??? I did not think NFL teams supported their RTs with their better OG that much. Not that #11 overall is low, but I'm actually surprised he's that low. He had a great year.

I'd also like to say one more time that John was a more than adequate fill-in at Center. The failure was the OG that had to replace John. So a back up OG is an option.

Agree in principle, but I'd say late teens...

Yes. IF they opt to draft a projected "starter". RT would be the spot......though, personally, I think Schwartz does just fine and is more maligned than his play suggests he should be.....I guess #5 outta 5 is a fact...but 1 thru 4 are all pretty frigging good!

Yep....actually, Id say Greco was #6, cause one of the ones ahead didn't play a full season(Zietler-Cinn).....but Grecos PFF was in the green at +15.6....oh so solid.....and Bito was #2 LG at an amazing +22.4 (10.2 pass/11.7 run).....talk about solid....

    Top 5 RG:

    Marshall Yanda

    T.J. Lang

    Zach Martin

    Brandon Brooks

    Brandon Linder.......then Greco....

    Top 5 LG:

    Josh Sitton

    Joel Bitonio....22.4

    K. Osemele

    Orlando Franklin

    Mike Iupoti.....11.2

So, we go full circle, because we can see that Bito rated twice as high as Lupoti.....and Greco was higher too.....so, Id ask the OP who Lupoti is supposed to replace??? And are we supposed to change systems and assume he will switch sides and improve enough to be better than Greco???.......ha!....hilarious.....

Edit:..Ill add that Bito missed being #1 by just a few tenths of a point and had his only 2 negative grades the last 2 games.....meaning, had he had just played to his established season standard in the last game, he'd be #1.....

  • That reminds me... I have two games to grade yet. It'll be fun comparing to PFF.

I'm sorta with you on Mitchell, but I noticed you did not post where Mitch ranked... 🙂

No, he's not terrible, but rather than him being #5 in our O-line ranking of 1,2,3,4,5, I think it's more like 1,2,3,4,6... maybe 7. Even with Greco at 4 (which I'll grudgingly accept) there's still a gap to Mitch.

The problem with upgrading RT is I think we are still one, good O-lineman shy. I have zero faith that Mitch can step inside.

Same is likely true if we nab an OG, but I think either of our starting guards could step out to OT on their side and do fairly well.

  • Frank Gore has no speed and the Niners running game has been great since he joined the team. Bitonio and Iupati play with a mean streak. Thomas and Mack are great technicians and finesse players. Bitonio or Iupati on the right side would balance out the line. Going from LG to RG isn't that drastic a switch.
