  • you don't have to hit rock bottom before acknowledging an issue with polysubstance abuse. I suspect johnny had an aha moment as he witnessed running dog, josh,

stepping on his dick again as he frittered away what could have been a successful NFL career. there are plenty of nfl players, current and past, who have had success fighting

the scourge of addiction. johnny needs to align himself with winners to avoid the normal fate of those who choose to use. the crux of it, in my opinion, is that jm has been dealt

a dose of reality....for the first time in his life he is facing failure resulting in diminished sense of worth and self confidence. he needs to come to terms with the realization that most likely his

future will not involve the NFL.

    it's over johnny

  • Nice little PR stunt but won't change he is a bust.

  • Johnny Manziel needs a positive role model like Bernie Kosar.

Kosar had substance abuse issues and got them under control. Maybe he could help mentor Johnny. I know, defending the rookie QB with limited reps is inexcusable. He's clearly garbage. Like everyone on this board isn't drunk off their ass.

  • I knew it would never happen but I would have liked to have seen Bernie Kosar hired as our QB coach.

  • I hope one thing Manziel realizes in all this is he has to let go of the "groupies" in his life first and foremost. I believe it was a piece on Tyron Smith the OL for the Cowboys who talked about all this. He pretty much said his career would be over if he didn't completely cut-out all the people who were riding the coat tails and hoping to live the luxury life. It's clear Manziel has tons of people like this in his life and will drag him back down if not removed.

As a good friend of mine (now clean and sober almost 36 years) once told me, the key for him was changing people, places and things. Once he got that all straight, everything changed.

  • Johnny Manziel needs to be traded.. He blows..

    He stole my line. LOL.

"The most positive step in all this is that in order to actually go to rehab he had to check his ego at the door knowing all the things he said in the national spotlight about living his own life his way which obviously did not work out so well. His first step was far harder than any of us would have to make with the same problem because none of us has to live their life in a fishbowl like he has done since winning the Heisman. This step is a most humiliating, public eating of humble pie for a guy who didn't even like the name Johnny Football."-posted in here Feb 3, 2015.

Is that a phrase they teach you when you become a rehab counselor? Sounds like it.

  • I love Humble Pie... Live at the Filmore East is a classic....

    "We go home on Monday..."

  • I'm hoping JM went into rehab on his own and the Browns org. did not twist his arm. I am interested to see how he does after rehab with his head in the game. For sure he has better talent than he has shown thus far. I have some empathy for JM. I remind myself he is just 22 years old. Rehab may be one of the best things to happen to him.

  • And while I am optimistic about Johnny and his talent I am NOT particularly optimistic about the success of rehab programs. I would imagine that in the case of heavy chemical dependence that a one two or three month detox would be a good first step. He doesn't seem to me to be the guy with the DT's and the shakes, just a kid that likes to get shit hammered like I did. I don't know what it is that has been causing problems in his life.

Hopefully its just a realization that he needs a new direction and if so that would be great. I don't doubt he has the talent but talent alone can't make you great.

And I'm guessing, knowing how the paparazzi works, that if he sneaks out to a bar someone will have photographs. And that, gentlemen, will be that.

It will be an uphill climb. There is no privacy about anywhere (just about everyone has a cell phone camera) and your right one slip up especially during the football season and TMZ and others will be all over it. I am sure there are NFL players in AA who would like the opportunity to sponsor JM. I think he is going to have to choose what is most important to him.

Rehab programs are a piece of cake. I've been through rehab many times, no problem.

No you have to go to specialty Browns grad school for that phrase. 😆

  • No NFL team's alcoholism program is better than Cleveland's.

Of course, Manziel will be out of the league before the end of 2015, but he'll always have his signing bonus and his Vegas.

  • Hopefully he has matured since he was 12 until now. And yes I think he did it on his own, with some advice from friends and mentors.

  • JM went in to Rehab before the Super bowl which I think is a good sign he is serious. He was offered six figures to host a Super Bowl party in Vegas and he went to Rehab instead.

I tend to believe what I see repeatedly. Until he steps up and acts like a young man instead of a spoiled brat I will call him a spoiled brat.

Fair enough, actions speak louder than words. I had personally given up on him but now I want to see how he does with his head in the game. For all the negative things written about him I do see some players saying he is a likeable guy, at least he is not some insufferable jerk.

  • He can do whatever he wants, but there isn't a dang thing he can do on the field that will change his outcome in the NFL.

He is not a good quarterback in the NFL.
