One Nation, under Allah......

Os, stop already with the knee jerk reaction.
You apparently missed the part:
" a New York high school made students recite our national Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic."
ARABIC.
Why the refusal to see the picture for what it is? It's a pro Muslim, pro arabic, twist.
And, this is also part of the picture:
" I reported on a Common Core school assignment that forced students to make Islamic prayer rugs, and recite Muslim Prayers, and a U.S. Marine dad who was banned from school after protesting an assignment that blatantly promoted Islam."
That is why the outrage. And I'm sick and tired of spanish. Spanish on recording when you call companies,
spanish on so many labels of products. STFU already with the studidass spanish.
-
It was foreign language week at a school. I don't quite get the outrage but rage on I guess. I am no fan of Islam or any religion for that matter but I don't presume that every kid learning a foreign language is being indoctrinated. Girls who take french don't immediately wear berets and quit shaving their pits.
-
We aren't at war with Islam. We aren't at war with everyone that speaks Arabic.
Like Logic said, it was foreign language week. They probably did a bunch of things in a bunch of different languages. They weren't being "indoctrinated" with any of them.
This is fake outrage for outrage sake. How dare American students learn about other cultures though.

For me the problem was using the pledge of allegiance. That was a huge NO.

Anything to discourage saying the pledge is a good thing.
I have developed a problem with saying the pledge in any language. The pledge isn't a declaration of patriotism.
http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/whats-conservative-about-pledge-allegiance
"From its inception, in 1892, the Pledge has been a slavish ritual of devotion to the state, wholly inappropriate for a free people. It was written by Francis Bellamy, a Christian Socialist pushed out of his post as a Baptist minister for delivering pulpit-pounding sermons on such topics as 'Jesus the Socialist.' '
It was an indoctrination, especially in rural areas and the south - to think of the the United States as a indivisible nation and not a Union of States. "One Nation, and we won't think about anyone ever wanting to leave, ever again. Forever"

Interesting but I just consider the pledge as symbolic of loyalty to one's country which any citizen should be loyal to their own country. You can disagree on issues but loyalty to your own country is never an issue. If you can't be loyal then leave.

those of us (myself badly at times) that follow the Christian faith should have an issue with saying the pledge
#2 Jesus also teaches that men cannot serve two masters at the same time.
When teaching about worldly treasures, Jesus says we should be more concerned with the things of heaven and God’s kingdom than those of this world.
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.” (Matthew 6:24)
We can’t give our loyalty to two masters and be pleasing to both. Whether the choice is between God and money, God and man, God and a government or nation, the choice is always the same, one or the other. It seems that Jesus is saying ‘you can’t have your cake and eat it too’. In light of this it just doesn’t seem possible to me to give my loyalty to God, and then try and give it to a government at the same time. Jesus also said ” My kingdom is not of this world”. Jesus has a kingdom, and just like an earthly kingdom , I can’t be loyal to two kingdoms at once. It would be impossible to be loyal to the USA and Iran at the same time! It’s the same with being part of the kingdom of God. Jesus calls us to be loyal to his kingdom, and if we have given our loyalty to God’s kingdom, how then can we try and give it to America or any other worldly kingdom?
To sum up: Pledging allegiance to the flag equates to making an oath of loyalty to an earthly kingdom. Both acts are condemned by Jesus. I’m ready to stop pledging loyalty to the United States or any other kingdom other than the kingdom of heaven. How about you?

"If you can't be loyal then leave". I used to think like that, but starting in the the Bush II Years and then with the Obama presidency I have been rethinking that position.
It depends how you prioritize things.
What is loyalty?
How much loyalty do I owe this country - I was born here, and did not make a conscous effort (unlike a legal immigrant) to become a citizen. So my citizenship is a matter of birth. So I have to ask myself - what do I owe to the United States?
If we enter more wars that I know are unjust, immoral then do I owe loyalty? Should I pay taxes to fund that, and should I willingly feed myself into the chipper shredder?
If I think Gay marriage is immoral, should I support a government that circumvents religious safeguards and forces people to comply with the immorality?
Or can you love your land, and it's people and not support the government? Should my loyalty mean helping my neighbor get his livestock out of a burning barn, or helping force someone to provide a service they know is wrong?
And as for leaving if I don't approve of the actions of the government, why should I? I worked my ass off to get my property. Why leave? and where would I go to?
so the "if you're not loyal just leave argument rings more hollow each year.

So.... as a Christian, you can't be loyal to your own local football team, either, I take it.
And certainly, you can't be loyal to anything. In fact, you should be disloyal to everything
except Christianity.....
it isn't even funny or entertaining. It's....something else not good.
I'm loyal to my country forever, but the US is not my "master".
Liberals, and other silly people, gloss over, or misuse words to make "special" points.
In the original Hebrew and/or Greek, the various words denoting "master" mostly reference
"teacher/leader".
Not "I love and am loyal to country, favorite team....etc."
In the early days, when I went to church, the church was not my "master/leader" and neither was the
pastor. Those were a means to the end - learning more about God, about Jesus, via God's Word.
Therefore, when I understood about tithing in original Hebrew and Greek, it wasn't the same as
members paying a flat 10% of their gross income.
Well, one fine day, I happened to stop in and talk to him about it. He got a bit incensed, and
told me that was just the way it was. I said, if not justified by the original Hebrew and Greek,
why do so many churches have that same tithing policy?
Well, he looked at me smartly and said "because it works". I said "well, robbing a bank "works", but it
is wrong."......and he got red in the face, formerly censored me to leave the church and not come back.
So, I left, and didn't. But he ended up studying that subject, in the original Hebrew and Greek,
and one day called, humbly apologized, and said he was wrong. They changed their policy.
You can be loyal to your country, team, city, family, freedoms, cracker jacks, whatever for the most part...per whatever "bibles"
apply to you.
And God's Law has nothing to do with obeying traffic laws, or gov laws. Those are societal/governing laws.
God's Laws are per salvation, as I see it.

Well put, cal.

Mo, it isn't a matter of disagreeing. I disagree with all sorts of stuff, but I'm loyal to
my country. and this board, etc.
My country is not policies, My wonderful, outstanding marriage - I am 1000000 percent loyal...
but we disagree on which side of the sink put the dirty dishes, and how long they
should be allowed to remain there.....
Liberals miss the point of things. If you want to fundamentally change what you are a part of,
then you aren't loyal to said part. Therefore, you should leave that part.
I do not want to fundamentally change America - I dearly love my country. Do I agree the way Obamao is
doing ANYTHING, the marxist sumbeech bastard.....? NO.
His policy is not my country. Bush never tried to "fundamentally" change our country. You disagree with
some of his policies, oh well.
Liberals always? tend to think emotionally on issues. That's why they make little analytical sense,
and get all twisty-twisty into knots about things.

And normal service is resumed. Somewhat relieved, I must say, agreeing with you lasted only about 10 minutes

LOL, I like how you accuse me of having a knee-jerk reaction because I pointed out the knee-jerk reaction to the use of the word "Allah." I'd quite forgotten how broken your comprehension skills are. Thanks for reminding me so I can continue to avoid this forum.

Keep in mind that we revere the founding fathers who were in fact traitors and mutineers. The Patriot? That was Benedict Arnold who is now reviled in our history.
If loyalty ever needs to take precedent what are you most loyal to? Your family? Your friends? Your town? Your state? Your country? Your race, religion, political party, sexual orientation?
And in cases of territorial loyalty which include your football team is there any logical reason?

I am loyal to my country without question.
