For the religious - a question

The Bible and thr Torah and the koran were all written when man was ignorant of the universe. If there is a god and he created all why would you reveal the infinite universe to someone who wasn't ready?

The bible was supposedly inspired by God though.

and I can believe Hogwarts is a real place and Harry Potter is a real person. Knowledge, facts, science, etc can show they aren't though, and that is the point.
Why do I scoff at believers? I am curious what you think. Do you also think it is because the anti-Christ has possessed me or something? (lol).
Yes, there are good lessons to live by in the Bible. No one can disagree with that, but I am talking about a literal interpretation (which you and others seem to be as well). This is where I say common sense, knowledge, facts, etc can disprove a literal interpretation.
Which brings me back to my original question, are you a "young Earth creationist"?
Do you also think it is because the anti-Christ has possessed me or something? (lol).
That's possible. The possessed don't know they're possessed.

No, I don't think it gets you banned. I would need to care at all about the "insult". You're basically saying a fictional character's spirit is influencing me? I find that hilarious, lol.
Yes, I am a pawn in the plan of the anti-Christ. Knowledge, reason, fact, science... the Devil!
Look at the reasoning from OBF. "ETs would invalidate the Bible. Nothing can invalidate the Bible. Therefore we'll never find ETs.".... really? Really? That is basically the exact reason I am not a fan of religion.

so you are a believer in ETs? like in UFO phenomena?
we talked about demonic activity before as well.... I think with logic too?

Literal interpretation of what? You use this phrase, but I don't think you *actually* know what's in the bible.Yes, there are good lessons to live by in the Bible. I very, very much doubt we are alone in the universe. Based on probability alone
.... but math might just be the anti-Christs doing?

OBF, are you a "young Earth creationist"?
No. I believe the earth is many millions of years old but nobody knows with certainty. It could be milions of years passed between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2?

Based on how it was translated, how its been edited, and how you interpret it... you could probably make the Bible fit into almost any set of reasoning. This is what I was saying earlier. More scientific knowledge will come about that will debunk what people originally thought holy books said, and those religious people will just change their interpretation.
If you believe the Earth is very old, do you accept the scientific theory of evolution?

And around and around we go.
A likely answer...Yes, belief in God/Bible and evolution need not be mutually exclusive.

Absolutely not. There are things clearly revealed in the bible and there are things that are symbolic and God reveals what He wants to. I believe what happened in the garden was symbolic, that it was more than just eating a forbidden fruit. The book of Revelation is full of images from a man who got a glimpse into the future and described what he saw in the technology and terms of the day. When you understand the bible it is all about Jesus. He is either who He said He was or He wasn't. I want to believe Him that He is seated at the right hand of the Father, what He said about heaven is true and that He has prepared a place for us, that He dealt with the sin problem and He is God who became man. Psalm 22 written hundreds of years before Christ describes the crucifixion better than the disciples. Isaiah 53 describes how the Messiah would come and be rejected by His own people and he would die for the sins of others. The answers are in the bible but a skeptic will never see it.

I would say that is just conjecture on your part.
I believe the laws of mathematics are also (added among many) a beautiful gift to mankind
meant to connect the gifted among us to see things in a precisely ordered fashion.
to give the spirit of anti-christ (read: evil) any credit with mathematics / physical laws is plain wrong

To give "the spirit of anti-christ" any credit with ANYTHING is just plain wrong, lol.
Thinking that we are the only life forms in the entire universe is ridiculous.

Absolutely not to what? Evolution? Something else I said? Just checking...
Nostrodamus also predicted a lot of things if you interpret his work loosely enough, which is the point I'm trying to make. What is an example of one of these predictions by the Bible?
If you want to believe the general teachings of the Bible, be a good person, respect your parents, etc, then more power too you. We need me people thinking like that. But when you take an old book as a literal account of history, and you think it is the divine word of god.... then it gets a little crazy in my mind. When you immediately reject the idea of life elsewhere in the Bible, because it would invalidate your religious beliefs, then we start showing the true damage caused by religion.
A few questions, if you don't mind:
1) What makes your religion correct, as opposed to any other? What makes you know you're right? You could have been born in India, and believe something completely different. You would then believe something very different from what the Bible tells you, but you'd still think you're correct. What makes Christianity "right"?
2) What are you views on Mormonism or Scientology? If you think they're just ridiculous, what makes them any more ridiculous than your beliefs? Longevity?
3) The show Ancient Aliens shows a bunch of interpretations of the Bible (and other religious works) which seem to support an "ancient astronaut theory". What makes those interpretations incorrect?
You don't need to answer all of these questions, or any really, but I think you may be one of the most devout Christians on this board. I am just trying to peak inside your brain and figure out why you think the way you do. I mean, I imagine it was because you were raised that way, but I guess I am looking to see how you can still justify it.

No, they do not need to be. Centuries ago, that statement would be blasphemy in the eyes of the church. As our scientific knowledge has grown, and religious believes have shrunk more and more into the corner, they've needed to revise their message to stay compatible. Evolution is a scientific fact, if you try to push a religion that 100% goes against this, you are going to seem pretty crazy and lose potential followers. So, over time, the interpretation of the Bible became more loose ("oh, it's not a literal 6 days") and this allowed for religion to bend and try to mesh into emerging scientific theories. Again, this is kind of what I have been saying for awhile. If some new, groundbreaking evidence comes about that directly contradicts someones literal interpretation of the Bible, that interpretation will just change. Religion will continue its decline, but it will go down swinging.

I will get back to you on some other things you brought up but on why I believe Christianity over other religions such as Buddhists, Hinduism, etc.. the difference is the resurrection. Buddha is dead and buried but Christianity is different with a risen Savior. The disciples witnessed it and when you read the bible they were scared to death when Jesus was crucified but something happened that changed all that. They witnessed the miracle.

I'll try my best to not sound like an asshole here, but...
You believe in Christianity because its old book talks about the main character coming back to life. Then some guys from thousands of years ago backed it up.
Doesn't that seem a little ridiculous?

I don't think so.
Read all about it...from arguably the oldest Christian denomination.

Religion will continue its decline, but it will go down swinging.
And the religion left standing will be Leftism. Europe has already fallen. Clearly the U.S. has put the most resistance to leftism, but what makes me abhor libfucks is that any religious resistance to leftism and the religious are the ones viewed as the "extremists".
Seems the more secular society becomes, the more laws the government needs to impose. It was once that Judeo/Christianity provided checks on behaviors apart from the law. It was that which molded society. Today it is Leftism that molds society. The more laws the better.

So? How does that affect you if that is what a person chooses to believe?
After all, gay marriage doesn't harm or affect those that don't believe in it. Isn't that what you guys always say?

That was so wrong cause that dude really is brilliant. But fuck i'm gonna be laughing for days.

The main character walked the earth doing things only someone with supernatural ability could do, said before it happened he would be killed and three days later rise from death and then it happened just like he said it would. I don't see the ridiculousness of believing in someone like that at all. What is ridiculous to me is not believing.
