Jonathan Paul Manziel

Jim Donovan said Manziel had a terrific day, completing 70%
of his passes, and really looking good.
Hard work will pay off.
Only 70%? That's a major drop-off from Friday's one incompletion.
I have a quote for you from my 7 y.o. grandson to his Mom and grandmother when they went into the hall closet during a tornado warning about 6 weeks ago, "We're doomed!" LOL

But I'd rather defer to Bitonio: Taken from a article today by Pat McManamon, ESPN Staff Writer
"His mentality is night and day from last year," guard Joel Bitonio said. "He's focused in the meetings. He's determined to be better. I think the naked eye can say how he's approaching practice. He's trying to be a good football player. He's frustrated when he does stuff bad. He's excited when he does stuff well.
"He wants to be the best and I think that's the right mentality to have and he really improved that," Bitonio continued. "He's taking notes in meetings; he's on top of things. There's definitely an improvement and I think these preseason games are going to be valuable for him to get back on the field and kind of get his bearings back."

Revolutionary!

You do realize that McCown threw his first pick of camp yesterday...
It was a Kruger tip that Williams made a diving INT on to end the day's CamoCompetition.
Hey guys.
Welcome back...

Id say there are pros and cons to the shotgun......
Hey, if thats what Johnny needs to succeed, then Im all for it.....whatever it takes....BUT, if it's the only formation that you can play from, then thats an issue and seriously diminishes the offensive options(and definitely makes life easier for the D).....
Also kind of stifles the running game. If we can only pass from the shotgun, then it'll be easy for D's to anticipate the play if our QB lines up under center.........
And, yes, shotgun forces the QB to take his eyes off the D and concentrate on receiving the snap....while QB's under center can scan the D the whole time.....no need to look away......

Exactly !
It's difficult to develope a SMASH MOUTH mentality spending too much time in the gun/pistol.

Well of course they do, but if you don't consider Russell Wilson a franchise QB idk what else to say really. We've had good RB's and defenses so why haven't we gotten to the SB? I'm honestly really surprised so many people see this differently, it's plain as day to me.
Actually I do. But you also have to have a complete team around him starting with a great D and a franchise RB. Browns are building it right this time. D and run game first, QB second. You have to have a true base before you throw someone new to the NFL into the fire and ask him to run the show. QB's don't just grow on trees. They took an athlete and hope to shape him into the QB they need when all the other pieces are there. One thing no one can dispute about JM is that the kid is an athlete. He has excelled at every sport he loves. Scratch golfer, over .400 hitter in Texas baseball and then the Heisman. Unlike many here the Browns have not given up hope yet that the athlete they have MAY be THE ONE.

What I mean to say overall is that the QB is the engine that makes the car run. JRB
*********************************
"ahem"... Bengals...2014....
The QB is the steering wheel. The offensive line is the engine. The rb's, TE's and wr's ...are the wheels.
The Browns were running the race really well last year, til one of their engines' cylinders got injured, as in Mack.
And Warpo - I -think- you are saying, that Johnny is the best qb, the best althlete...and the best player isn't playing, except you are
saying that you agree that McCown should still start, except ...... eh..... and McCown isn't better under center...
....... ???
Anyways, McCown's experience in the league is worth it's weight in gold, as is the case for this teamwork, excellent
maturity and ability to help the other qb's, his leadership, and his stronger arm than Hoyer.
Always seems to some people, that any qb having to deal with a lack of talent around him, "isn't a good or great qb".
But any qb with a ton of talent around him, "is a good or great qb".
It will be very interesting, to see McCown play with a complete, talented cast, especially the offensive line,
rather than what he had to struggle with in the past.
I think Andy Dalton is the best example of what I'm saying. You put Andy Dalton with the Browns four years ago,
and he would fare no better than Colt McCoy.
We just need to hope that when Johnny does come in, he's ready to roll and be the qb everybody
needs him to be, the best he can be.

All I can say is that we agree to disagree. Mack going down certainly hurt a lot, but I'd point to the much larger elephant in the room that Hoyer stopped completing passes, played bad and got figured out for what he was. I'd point to the years since 1999 and 1 playoff appearance to show for it as proof. We've had (and have) good OL, good defense, good RB's etc..the one thing we've never had is a good QB. Also, look at the playoffs from the past 5 years. What's the common denominator there?
Again, I'm not saying a QB wins a SB by himself, but we are never going to see another SB champion with Trent Dilfer under center. But, it's certainly not a bad plan at all to find the QB "last" and have an elite team already built.
-
Ah... but which came first? Mack's leg or Hoyer's decline. If related, and I think they were, only one is temporally positioned to be causal...
Hoyer's PAP skills were the best I've seen in a Browns' uni since Bernie. But even the best ever, commonly held to be Steve DeBerg, needed a ground game to sell his fakes.
And, as others have joined in saying, that sale starts from under center...
-
We should put a moratorium on new Ags on the board lol.
-
Christ I hope Manziel turns it around and can lead the team. McCown is about two years tops from retirement.
-
yeah....McCown is def a stop gap no matter what.....or a bridge, as Tour has often said.......
Just gotta find out if he's the bridge to next years draft or till Johnny steps in......?
Johnny will play with the ones tomorrow night......
-
Woah woah woah Miss Lippy... are you serious? Did Pettine say that?
yes....they told him this morning....which added a lil pep to his step....he's on the radio right now and sounds excited....and a lil more confident than the last time we heard him......a good day for Johnny all around....

I have a feeling the Browns Board is going to grow some in the next few weeks.

I hope so because that means Johnny is starting and thus playing better than McCown.

The Browns organization has handled the whole situation with Manziel very well in my opinion. They came down on him with the discipline in the Ravens game but were supportive of him while in rehab. I think the way they have handled the situation is working and starting to bear fruit and bringing out the best in Manziel. He seems to be responding and showing more dedication to being an NFL qb. I have thought all along if Manziel can be an NFL qb that everything is in place now for him to prove himself capable. He has the right coaches and a great mentor with McCown.

practice is in and the JFF report says........(wait for it).....he killed it today!

3 passing tds and 1 rushing.....body language says he's feeling it right now......
3 days......and counting.....

Had to be his twin brother Ronnie who hates the spotlight. Johnny only shows up for awards and drinking bouts.

Pettine on Manziel after today's practice:
On QB Johnny Manziel's progress after two good days of practice: "Absolutely. When you come in everyday with a great attitude and you work and it's important to you, you can't help but get better. I'm just happy for him that he's getting the results on the field and the guys around him sense that as well."
And on the Orange and Brown Scrimmage tomorrow:
On details about the Orange and Brown scrimmage: "We're going to start it off with more-similar to what we did a year ago. We'll do some 7-on-7 work and some crossover work with the line. Some one on one blocking and maybe some group protection stuff to get them some reps there. It will primarily be ones against ones, twos against twos, threes against threes. The quarterback rotation will- we'll get (QB) Josh (McCown) some reps, but maybe not as many as the others. You'll probably see Johnny out there with the ones. I don't know if they've totally etched that into stone but that was the direction that we were heading. All of the coaches submitted their plan for their guys and it's up to coordinators to put that together. I think that's tentatively, now, what the plan is."
Looks like JM gets a lot of play with the ones as of the moment.

Hey guys. I'm really glad to hear the positives from camp. Johnny has taken a lot of good steps so far. Let's hope he stays on the right track and keeps working and improving.
What he had at A&M, besides talent, was a good knowledge of the offense and huge confidence. I'd love to see him get there for the Browns.
He just needs to keep grinding,
A good knowledge of the offense? He was able to run around like a Retard 90% of the time until he threw a 50/50 ball for Evans or Swope. In fact his knowledge of the offense might not be the issue. His understanding of defense cost him dearly against LSU and UF.

Yes, he knew the offense. Of the almost 8,000 yards of passing, Johnny completed maybe 5 or 6 "50/50" balls at A&M.
UF was his first ever college football game. LSU had his number, no doubt. LSU's defense has lots of team's numbers.
I'm hoping his second pro year mirrors his second year in college, his redshirt freshman year. For this to happen, he has to get his confidence back. He looked like a scared kid against Cincy, something I hated seeing. That was clearly due to his not knowing the playbook and not being able to read an NFL defense. The more time he has to do this, and the more dedicated he is doing it, will lead to his confidence being built back up, similar to what happened after his disastrous first year in college.
I really like the McCown hire, I've always liked that guy, and with the talent this Browns team has, they could be successful with him in there.

No, that the best players always play.
Oh. Well that is true.
However, that seems to be what Pettine is going for now. Hence Shelton and Erving not automatically getting reps with the 1's.
