yeah....McCown is def a stop gap no matter what.....or a bridge, as Tour has often said.......
Just gotta find out if he's the bridge to next years draft or till Johnny steps in......?
Johnny will play with the ones tomorrow night......
-
Woah woah woah Miss Lippy... are you serious? Did Pettine say that?
yes....they told him this morning....which added a lil pep to his step....he's on the radio right now and sounds excited....and a lil more confident than the last time we heard him......a good day for Johnny all around....

I have a feeling the Browns Board is going to grow some in the next few weeks.

I have a feeling the Browns Board is going to grow some in the next few weeks.
I hope so because that means Johnny is starting and thus playing better than McCown.

The Browns organization has handled the whole situation with Manziel very well in my opinion. They came down on him with the discipline in the Ravens game but were supportive of him while in rehab. I think the way they have handled the situation is working and starting to bear fruit and bringing out the best in Manziel. He seems to be responding and showing more dedication to being an NFL qb. I have thought all along if Manziel can be an NFL qb that everything is in place now for him to prove himself capable. He has the right coaches and a great mentor with McCown.

practice is in and the JFF report says........(wait for it).....he killed it today!

3 passing tds and 1 rushing.....body language says he's feeling it right now......
3 days......and counting.....

Had to be his twin brother Ronnie who hates the spotlight. Johnny only shows up for awards and drinking bouts.

Pettine on Manziel after today's practice:
On QB Johnny Manziel's progress after two good days of practice: "Absolutely. When you come in everyday with a great attitude and you work and it's important to you, you can't help but get better. I'm just happy for him that he's getting the results on the field and the guys around him sense that as well."
And on the Orange and Brown Scrimmage tomorrow:
On details about the Orange and Brown scrimmage: "We're going to start it off with more-similar to what we did a year ago. We'll do some 7-on-7 work and some crossover work with the line. Some one on one blocking and maybe some group protection stuff to get them some reps there. It will primarily be ones against ones, twos against twos, threes against threes. The quarterback rotation will- we'll get (QB) Josh (McCown) some reps, but maybe not as many as the others. You'll probably see Johnny out there with the ones. I don't know if they've totally etched that into stone but that was the direction that we were heading. All of the coaches submitted their plan for their guys and it's up to coordinators to put that together. I think that's tentatively, now, what the plan is."
Looks like JM gets a lot of play with the ones as of the moment.

But I'd rather defer to Bitonio: Taken from a article today by Pat McManamon, ESPN Staff Writer
"He's taking notes in meetings..."
Revolutionary!

You do realize that McCown threw his first pick of camp yesterday...
It was a Kruger tip that Williams made a diving INT on to end the day's CamoCompetition.
Hey guys.
Welcome back...

Hey guys. I'm really glad to hear the positives from camp. Johnny has taken a lot of good steps so far. Let's hope he stays on the right track and keeps working and improving.
What he had at A&M, besides talent, was a good knowledge of the offense and huge confidence. I'd love to see him get there for the Browns.
He just needs to keep grinding,
A good knowledge of the offense? He was able to run around like a Retard 90% of the time until he threw a 50/50 ball for Evans or Swope. In fact his knowledge of the offense might not be the issue. His understanding of defense cost him dearly against LSU and UF.

Yes, he knew the offense. Of the almost 8,000 yards of passing, Johnny completed maybe 5 or 6 "50/50" balls at A&M.
UF was his first ever college football game. LSU had his number, no doubt. LSU's defense has lots of team's numbers.
I'm hoping his second pro year mirrors his second year in college, his redshirt freshman year. For this to happen, he has to get his confidence back. He looked like a scared kid against Cincy, something I hated seeing. That was clearly due to his not knowing the playbook and not being able to read an NFL defense. The more time he has to do this, and the more dedicated he is doing it, will lead to his confidence being built back up, similar to what happened after his disastrous first year in college.
I really like the McCown hire, I've always liked that guy, and with the talent this Browns team has, they could be successful with him in there.

No, that the best players always play.
Oh. Well that is true.
However, that seems to be what Pettine is going for now. Hence Shelton and Erving not automatically getting reps with the 1's.
-
Woah woah woah Miss Lippy... are you serious? Did Pettine say that?
Don't get too excited, Pettine is pretty much rotating all the players through the 1st Team.
Basically the same situation for Pryor before he got hurt.
I am pleased to see that JM is actually looking somewhat like a Football Player this year in contrast to what we got dealt last year.
Still a ways to go though, but there is some encouraging progress.

Yup settle down Ags... McCown is just going to have an early night and leave some reps with the 1's on the table.
But no doubt that JM has earned whatever ones come his way.practice is in and the JFF report says........(wait for it).....he killed it today!

3 passing tds and 1 rushing.....body language says he's feeling it right now......and... wait for it... he followed it up with his first presser...

While I wish he'd continued to lay low, it's pretty good stuff all in all... only a couple points bothered me:- At 1:50-ish mark he laid some blame for last year on the hype that was around him.
- Dodging the 4:30-ish question around contrast with last year.
- Is it just me or are his shoulders significantly asymmetrical? I'm used to seeing asymmetry in tennis players forearms, but never noticed it in QBs or pitchers before.
On the plus side:
- Good answer on spending time with Gruden.
- Good brush-off of MKC's "off-season" question... She has no pride.
- Admission-ish answer about getting wrapped up in starter thing last year.
Not sure what to make about last question and the abrupt ending... so I won't make anything of it.

NFL Limitations. Let's just see where this goes. Manziel looks ready to play football in a serious manner since he's been here is all I see. And that's a good place for him right now. Handled media well imo, "Football we talk and personal and past not up for debate it's all about football" that's a great step. Stay the Course to prove himself next up, Got no problem with it. Not getting the Jersey back out of the closet yet.(Damn sister love ya).

I like this Johnny better than last years Johnny. So far so good regarding his media handling.

This Johnny is more like the 2012 JM that won the trophy. Seldom talked (not allowed really) but was supercompetitive and much faster than the following year when he was trying to convert to the pro game more. The one sprint for yards yesterday is the JM we knew in 2012. I'm glad they are bringing him along slowly. Has a far better chance to be the QB he wants to be.
Quote taken by writer Kevin Jones is I feel a very telling statement by Pettine:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Pettine’s eyes, Manziel has taken a big mental leap during this training camp.
“The one play he made where defense was a heavy blitz look, he walked up, changed the protection, stepped up in the pocket and threw a touchdown pass,” Pettine said. “That was probably, start to finish, his best play of camp … It was more preparation than anything else. I just think he has so much more of an intimate knowledge of what we’re doing.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that sounds very promising.

This is a common misconception and false claim about Johnny Manziel. It's funny, too, because on one hand you call me a Johnny fanboy because I'm an Aggie fan, then you turn around and dispute my knowledge of Aggie football.
So here is a list of 50/50 balls completed by Johnny. You mentioned Swope. Johnny never threw a single 50/50 ball or jump ball to Swope.
Ole Miss 2012 Evans
Bama 2013 Evans , Pope
Arky 2013 Evans td
That's 4 I can remember. There's probably a couple more, but you act like he won the Heisman by throwing the ball up for grabs 10 times a game. Just stupid. He was a 70% passer, you don't get that by not knowing the offense, not reading the defense, and just throwing the ball up for grabs.
Johnny highlights are all over YouTube. Feel free to look them up and show me all these 50/50 balls to Swope you're talking about.
-
I feel the hysteria beginning to build. Just relax. We haven't even played our first pre-season game yet.
-
There were just a few more to Evans than that IIRC.
