The GOP establishment trying to force idiot candidates on America

And another point I think that free school appeals to the 47 percent who think everything is just luck and unfair. They like to believe they'd be successful if only...
Another excuse for failure that is exploited by the left in my opinion.

Yep, absolutely agree. Too many people getting degrees in subjects that don't need degrees, too many low quality institutions churning out low quality graduates. And at the same time shortages in skilled labourers - I'm assuming the same there, but here there's a great shortage of sparkies, who could easily earn £40-50k p/a, and yet people still spend money desperately trying to become the next, I don't know, Brad Pitt, or whoever.

I agree with this completely. Students go into debt throwing money at a degree with terrible job prospects. Or they get a degree from an underwhelming college and have a hard time finding a job. Or both.
Don't pay 50k a year in out of state fees, or private school fees, just to walk away with a Communication degree and no plan. Or an English degree and no plan. Or worse.

Can we generalize about every group of people based on finance /taxes now? I'm just curious.

I've "got it" all along, kids table. I've already pointed out his ability to utilize "all scientific evidence" when a decision is actually important.Again, it is how he got to his conclusion, not necessarily the actual age of the Earth. You are right, the age of the Earth will not affect a presidency. Thinking the Earth is 6000 years old and ignoring all scientific evidence, that type of decision making, THAT can affect a presidency.
You get it now?
This. Just. Isn't.
Also, points for him having the restraint to be able to carve into a baby's head and not immediately feel the urge to sell everything he finds in there.

So basically you're saying his ability to ignore mountains of scientific evidence in favor of some words in a book is ok here, because the age of the Earth doesn't really matter.
He can successfully perform surgery, where obviously medical knowledge is needed, and those decision are important.
There, he can utilize scientific evidence as necessary when making an important decision.
That's what you're saying, correct?
In which case, I don't agree. He doesn't get to pick and choose what facts and evidence to accept or ignore based on faith alone. We don't know when this can actual start affecting crucial decisions. The first of which is climate change. He's already ignored scientific evidence in favor of pure faith, what's stopping him from continuing to do that? Or foreign affairs with Muslim nations. Will his obviously blinding religious faith could have very real consequences here too.
It is willful ignorance to make room for blind faith. Not a trait I want the leader of the US to have, regardless of his stances.

Can we cut the layer of bullshit here? The main point is that he, like many other YECs, does not accept that climate change is a thing and so wouldn't endorse any corrective actions, such as funding research in cleaner fuels, moving from a dependency on fossil fuels etc. and this is in spite of the mountain of evidence to the contrary - like the age of the earth, which is obvious to anyone without a hardcore creationist narrative.
Woody, am I wrong on your concerns?
Legacy, thoughts? Because this is clearly something he'll have to deal with should he become president.

That would basically be one of them, yes.
And I'm correct in saying you're more or less on my side here, right? I believe when this came up in an older thread you basically mirrored the concerns I had.

Yes. Hopefully that eases your curiosity. I'd say that's more useful then generalizing that poor people will all be rich smart and successful if you just write them a check for college.

We need more people pursuing vocational careers. Almost every plant I've worked in, especially the current one, has a pretty old maintenance team. Half of the guys could retire now, and the rest in about 5 years. Electricians, Machine Repair, etc. There is good money to be made there to. I just think jobs like this have a negative connotation to some, so they aren't pursued.

By and large, yes. I get put off by people claiming to have spoken to God and using that to justify their actions, things like that. Like Bush in Iraq - I happen to think it was, on balance, good to remove Saddam Hussein, though that's a whole other kettle of fish, but the justification of 'God told me to do it' is bullshit.

I think you are exactly correct. That doesn't have very much to do with people being motivated to pursue those fields does it? I know enough people who have gotten handouts for college and or trade schools. (some with success, even though they could have paid for it and some are still deadbeats) It really isn't that hard, but it takes a bit of effort. I would imagine that guys like you will be successful whether or not your pop has money. And it's not because of luck.

For examples off the top of my head. One guy went to barber college. One woman majored in fashion design while another woman pursued and online course in social work while another man had truck driving school paid for.
Only the first guy who had actually worked his whole life before getting laid off and going to barber college has made a success of his training. The others, life-long losers, are still losers

What do you consider a handout in regards to tuition?

None of the four included a student loan. One was a program for laid off Union machinists and the others were grants and welfare.

now you are getting into real life scenarios in and around (any) industry. I am laughing at the prospect of the college guy having to roll up his sleeves and get "dirty"
because Joe called in sick,
And like you said - Bill is retiring next year and the new hires dont have a clue! or there ARENT any qualified people to support the infrastructure.
Just be lucky you arent that high up in the management (yet?) so as not to have to stare down a union boss and tell him to go pound sand....
and wait til he leaves so he wont see you changing into a uni? HAHAHA
-
And I'm not totally against handouts.
I just don't see them as being the panacea that some people do.
Public school is a good example. Even in the shittiest public school there are a number of students who excel and succeed. The teachers are all union members held to the same high standards of graduation and degrees as anywhere in the teaching world. And it's free so by the logic that wants to make college free should be turning out 100% of the students as competent citizens.

I roll up my sleeves and work on machines a lot. I'm a manufacturing engineer, I do a lot of hands on things. We also brought in a new line I was responsible for getting up and running.
There are a lot of restrictions in working with a union. A lot of times it makes my job harder/take longer to complete things. But, I've gotten in pretty well with the union here, and they've allowed me to work more on things that might be considered maintenance. So I can't complain too much.
We have no new hires in skilled trades. Well, no young new hires at least.
I will not be involved in the union contract discussions taking place next year. I'll be at another facility by then too. Though I would like to see it. We have almost doubled the workforce in the last year, with mainly younger operators. There is a divide amount the older and newer operators on the importance of being union.

I have worked with alot of engineers too - and Nothing earns more respect than having a guy jump in whenever hes needed
kudos to you and good luck!

Drinking game: drink every time woody mentions stem or bitches about "young earth". Double shots every time he has a delusional belief michigan can compete with OSU. you'll never be sober.
Is it a new mention every time I just reply to an ongoing conversation? In that case, you owe Legacy fan for your buzz.
Is there a drinking game about you saying every black person in the world having the same "black" culture? How about your obviously very emotionally charged views on topics? No game? oh, ok
If you want delusional, read the posts by OSU fans in the CFB Board (some of which are yours). Anything that isn't 100% OSU all of the time is an attach or an insult on the school. You can't sort one from the other, especially from a Michigan fan. I'll leave it at that though, this thread would get even more off topic. Reply to this part of the post as you see fit.

Im probably the least if your worries over on the CFB Board. As for black culture which I do mention as being the worst racial culture on earth I bring it up a lot less than you mention your pet peeves. For as often as blacks get up to shenanigans in the news I avoid it probably 7 of 10 times only commenting when it gets out of hand (which, admittedly, seems frequent lately) it's to your discredit that you think I've said "every black person" participates in the perpetuation of that culture but it's there all the same and denying it makes you look just sort of Retardy.

I think you are correct although it seems silly that people with no job experience would consider a career as an electrician not good enough for themselves. What you've got now is an entire new generation who has gotten the idea that they will go to college and have 100,000 dollar a year jobs. It's just not reality

I hire roofers, Auto Mechanics, Plumber, House repair, drywall guys, lawn services, electricians etc etc all of which to perform services I could probably do myself if I spent 10 times the amount of effort and wasn't worried about doing a shitty job.

Not sure about there but here you need an electrician to sign off any electrical work, even if you do it yourself, otherwise it invalidates your insurance, makes you liable for stuff etc.
