    Awe, even more compliments today!

My mfg engr group got down to just me for a few months. I had to basically do everything. I'm fresh outta school. I need to put in the long hours, just grind now to get recognized. Normal stuff.

The maintenance guys let me do a lot of that stuff now though, so that's nice. It is usually some collaborative engineering and maintenance stuff, but then I can get in there and help with there end. Hands on things.

There are a lot of different types of engineers. Manufacturing Engineers will do that. Design Engineers, not so much.

What job do you have where you get to work with a lot if engineers?

  • @mld-woody said:

We need more people pursuing vocational careers. Almost every plant I've worked in, especially the current one, has a pretty old maintenance team. Half of the guys could retire now, and the rest in about 5 years. Electricians, Machine Repair, etc. There is good money to be made there to. I just think jobs like this have a negative connotation to some, so they aren't pursued.

I think you are correct although it seems silly that people with no job experience would consider a career as an electrician not good enough for themselves. What you've got now is an entire new generation who has gotten the idea that they will go to college and have 100,000 dollar a year jobs. It's just not reality

I agree with this. Honestly, I wouldn't want to do any of those vocational jobs. I'm shooting for that 6 figure job.

Not to sound too arrogant, but my case and the case of others in similar roles are the exception. There are plenty of people maybe not cutout to be Engineers, Lawyers, Doctors, etc, but think they're still too good for vocational work. You're right, that's dumb. Those jobs just aren't seen in a great light. Even though they pay very well, require a lot if technical knowledge, and can open up more high paying options. They're also desperately needed within engineering.

  • Can we back the truck up a minute? (my stewed tomatoes for tomato dumplings is cooking...)...

Legacy and Woody were talking about Carson and his Christian belief about God creating the world

    only so long ago. etc.

Where was this idea that that is a problem with Carson ever being president, when OBAMAO is also

a Christian, so he also believes the same?

Why is it a "concern" only about Carson? Obamao says all along he was a Christian.

I think it was more a beef with Carson being a Young Earth believer. Not so much a belief in God.

    Pretty much.

If I had a problem with a candidate calling themselves Cristian, I wouldn't be able to vote for anyone for a while.

  • wait... by definition a Christian IS a young earth believer.

You'd be going by the Biblical explanation that God created the Heaven

    and the Earth.

or, I suppose you could differentiate between a literal translation of the creation,

    and a metaphorical translation.

I don't know what it says in the original Hebrew and Greek, and whether or not it

is a metaphor - is a question for the ages.

But understanding that God exists - who is to say that God created the earth at a different time

    than the science says?

I say that, because carbon dating itself is subject to controversy, and the confusing factors

    are also scientific.

    http://www.contenderministries.org/evolution/carbon14.php

The universe has surely existed forever. There was never a time when it didn't exist.

Now, does the original Hebrew and Greek refer to the creation of our earth as we know it,

refer to God taking a lifeless planet, and creating it into earth, with all the trappings of life

    and water?

Even with no controversy about carbon dating, the earth could easily have existed

for many billions of years, eternally even.....but it was lifeless and barren - not earth as we know it.

The planets in our solar system - no life. no people. probably no water/oceans. In all the magnificence

of earth's complex biology/botany and geology... to believe it was all by accident, well, I find that far more ludicrous

than believing that God took a lifeless planet, and formed the oceans, and all life on it.

  • Cal, he believes that the Earth is 6,000 years old. To me that tells me that he either doesn't believe geologists or thinks they are all lying. I would say that most Christians believe that the Earth is a fair bit older than that but just believe that God created it all.

  • Cal... please. Don't go down this road. Don't embarrass yourself any more than you already have. You don't want to join the OldBrownsFan team of Religion over Science.

His believe in a young Earth, against mountains of scientific evidence, is concerning. A few posters here agree. I wouldn't want a president that would choose to be willfully ignorant about anything.

  • This is hilarious

  • What road? Carbon dating has been questioned as far as accuracy.

Why is it always okay for liberals to question, but not anybody else?

Why is it always science that supports liberals viewpoints/anti-viewpoints,

but science that opposes is completely disregarded?

I was just asking the question....don't know the answer about it.

But what is wrong with this explanation of carbon dating limitations?

(the slurs, Woody, do nothing when you don't back up what the hell you are

trying to diminish without any supporting evidence.)

    https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/questions-about-carbon-dating.751976/

Carbon dating is not used to date the age of the earth. As you've read from other posts, it dates when an object dies, and the earth was never alive. Furthermore, C-14 has a half life of 5730 years. That means the technique starts to run out of steam at about 50,000 years. It's important to understand the range of validity of the test. C-14 is a very good technique to date when a shoe worn by Cleopatra was made. It's not so good in dating a shoe worn by Imelda Marcos or one by Fred Flintstone.

  • The earth is definitely 6000 years old. There is no doubt about that. Then there's that other billion years or so.

  • Well, explain why this is scientifically wrong, Woody.

I'm just asking the question. Why, I thought challenging was a great thing to you.

Of course, it's only when you decide it's okay to challenge...

    https://answersingenesis.org/geology/carbon-14/doesnt-carbon-14-dating-disprove-the-bible/

  • Given that carbon dating has nothing to do with the age of the earth I'm not sure of your point here cal. It's lead-lead dating that's been used to prove the age of the earth.

Carbon dating only goes back tens of thousands of years, whereas lead goes back much much longer.

  • Well, explain why this is scientifically wrong, Woody.

I'm going to regret this... What are you asking me to explain why it is wrong? Is it what Chris already posted?

Any kind of back and forth with you on topics like this is like beating your head against the wall. You post an article from AnswersInGenesis as a source, and then don't understand why that doesn't help you at all. You just don't get it.

As I said before, if you really want to defend Carson so much, that you'll go down the road of trying to defend a 6,000 year old earth, you're only going to embarrass yourself....

  • Ben Carson would make a great president and I would vote for him in a heartbeat. Unlike our divider in Chief Obama, Dr. Carson could bring the country together.

No he wouldn't. ANd you know it. Dr Carson is a man who believes in a very few specific things and if you're outside of that good luck to you cause you're silly fucked under his presidency.

Or any of the people negatively affected by his policies. But yeah, sure

And a liberal candidate is going to piss off some religious people.

No one person can bring the country together. Some topics we'll eventually be in agreement on, but it will take time. Older views dying out, younger people being raised differently, more acceptance in society for it, etc.

  • You haven't listened to him, haven't read his book.

I have - you run off at the mouth, Cleve, and you look ignorant.

And woody, if all you have, is smarting off to prove your point, you lose.

So, obamao doesn't believe in the Bible, doesn't believe God created the Heaven

    and the Earth....

like I said, I don't know if the original Hebrew and Greek was misinterpreted... or what.

But my question still stands. If the planet is billions of years old, then why can't it have been

created by God only 50,000 years ago, with water and life, etc, as we know it became

    in ancient history?

I honestly don't know. I know God is there, and I know he created life on earth.

The gay quibbling over "haha look at when" stuff is really weak.

Read Joseph Campbell's "Hero of a Thousand Faces". From the beginning of recorded history,

there are strong tendencies of creative literature, and indeed, history itself, of the monomyth.

How is this possible, across continents, cultures, and the ages?

    Now, read this:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegorical_interpretation_of_the_Bible

Metaphors-->allegories have existed from the early ancient days of recorded history.

I don't know what all is definately metaphor or allegory in the Bible. But there is an inherent

pattern in the minds of human beings since forever, about explaining the fictional, and non-fictional

    adventures of people.

  • So, woody, all you can do is smart off, and be unable to explain what you

    are pretending to understand?

And, Chris, lead dating? Lead dating is or inorganic dating. Geology, dude.

So, lead dating proves the age of the planet.

One more time. How does lead dating prove that God didn't create life on this planet?

    And the oceans?

If all you can do, Chris and Woopecker, is to post like you are hopping around on a pogo stick,

to make yourselves look tall...you look like morons.

Here's an example of what I said about the original Hebrew and Greek. In the Ten Commandments -

the original Hebrew..or Greek...word in the commandment about "Thou Shalt Not Kill"....

actually is the word for "murder". Not "kill". The word for "kill" was an entirely different word.

It was lost in the interpretation/conversion to other languages. "Thous Shalt Not Murder" is what

    it really is.

I don't know the answer as to creation time being misunderstood, or a metaphor/allegory. If you consider

back in the early ancient days, they probably didn't have a freaking calendar. How would they have

coneptualized "billions of years old" of anything?

It is uusally far more intelligent to ask legit questions, than to falsely pretend you know the answers.

So far, I'm getting fake answers, and pitiful, extremely asinine self-aggrandizing from chris and woodpecker.
