Apparently we have found the root cause of Gilbert's poor play.......... Instead of studying his playbook, hitting the weight room and generally working on being a Pro, he is online reading fan forums and getting his feelings hurt.

His coaches might remind him. Press clippings might be posted in the locker room. People will send him stuff. Twitter. Etc.

  • No. am just a browns fan that cheers 53 to make the Browns a winning Team. Players audition their talents to decide if their in that 53. Coaches decide which 53 gives us the best chance to win on Sunday. Which of these are you? Faker is not a option at this time or level. How bout you?

Have lived and died with the Browns since 1963... You put on our colors, I want you to make it. Junkin. Craig Powell. Phipps. TRich. I rooted for all of em. Cheered like a madman for Gilbert on his pick six v. Indy... but I just don't think he wants it badly enough...

Sometimes, people are afraid to succeed!!!!

The people talking shit about his poor play are not his coworkers or bosses. If they were hard on him, I could see why his confidence would be shot. However, what a bunch of fans and sports writers say about him should be of little concern to him. Play well and even the outside doubters will shut up. This all falls on Gilbert.

Fans are his bosses in a huge way.

Yes, fans definitely make roster decisions for NFL teams. It is like American Idol. It doesn't matter how talented the player is or how they perform on the field. Just how much they are liked.

I am sure coaches keep up with twitter to give Gilbert his daily updates.

If what fans and media are saying seriously affect his play, he's not cut out to be a professional athlete.

  • i'm the biggest gilbert fan on here (well supporter i should say...). i think he needs something to go his way and obviously right now playing CB vs. the ones is not it. as someone else had suggested put him at PR/KR. i think if he suceeds at that, gets with the flow of the game, it might transfer to other aspects of the game.

if not, then he'll just be another on a pile of players i'd hoped that would make it big in cleveland.

    oh well.........

  • Didn't Haden take a couple of years to blossom?

Your sarcasm is neither funny nor poignant. Try a new schtick for once. Like constructively talking about the Browns.

Ehh. He wasn't forced into the starting lineup. Saw a ton of time at the nickel and dime, then spot minutes at the #2. In his second year though he was starting across from Sheldon.

My recollection is iffy at best, but l do recall a rocky first half of his rookie season, but by the second half there were signs that things were clicking and a sense that he wasn't at least a bust.

Season number 2 he seemed to make headway into the solid cornerback department, but yeah, it seemed it was season 3 by the time he was the gold standard.

Haden was definitely ahead of where Gilbert is when Haden was where Gilbert is now.

  • I remember skrine getting demolished on this board for a long time. He kept improving and became a valuable player just in time to sign a nice contract somewhere else. I'm not saying that Gilbert will do the same, but it isn't unprecedented.

Which is fine for a 5th round pick, not #8 overall. Higher expectations unfortunately.

I wasn't trying to be funny. I was letting you know how ridiculous your position is on it. I don't know if kids growing up now are just made of Charmin and presume everyone else is or should be as influenced by what someone says on social media as they tend to feel. Others didn't grow up with needing everyone to tell them how they are wonderful and unique snowflakes.

    This.

  • Lets give him a cookie and a participation reward, maybe he feel better.

  • Unfortunately he was chosen even before JF and has that image to compete with. Which one looks like they will do anything to change the way they play the game and brings that intensity/fire now to every game and practice? Which one shows the greatest potential right now to up their game to another level and work their way into a starting role at some point? Who really shows they want it bad as a Browns player?

He needs to hang out with JF and let some of that desire to excel rub off.

  • If he spent all summer with Joe Haden and it didn't rub off, nothing will.

Maybe Gilbert needs his own hype man for confidence like Ali had Bundini Brown. COVER YOUNG MAN COVER.....AAAARRRRRRRHHHHH !

And not everyone lives in your " I walked uphill both ways to school in 6 feet of snow", the one where men ignored their feelings and treated women like property, then puff out their chest after "railing" the wife while she snickered at your lack of virility.

Your world is so much better. Cause it allows you, supposedly an adult male, to get overly emotional and irrational over a game. You watch a male soap opera, yuk it up to the point where you throw any value judgements out the window and act a fool because?

So you think being a sports fan is cause enough to act like a like child with you remarks? At least woman understand soap operas are entertainment, and thus should be considered as such.

I get it....the team owes you something because you buy the hear and go to the games. But Cleveland has some downright terrible fans....people that are so obsessed (lmao) that sports affects their lives. Sorry, rather pathetic in my eyes. Sports are supposed to be fun, but so many Cleveland fans think winning in sports actually means something. Its just an inferiority complex...

    Even before our other bust?

You are reduced to comparing Johnny to Gilbert to make him look good?

Johnny still hasn't done shit, if I were betting on which one would end up starting more games in the NFL, I would still go with Gilbert, but they are both huge-ass disappointments so far. Johnny may have the right attitude this year, but where are the big-time NFL play making skills?
