So, yea, we would be in a world of hurt......JFF out on the PUP....McCown down with injury.....that leaves Thad Lewis and Pat Devlin

    Oy vey.

High draft pick here we come!

Not if the OL, RBs....who I still think will be good.....and defense have anything to say about it. (but it doesn't help)

Doesn't that mean a minimum of 6 weeks without being able to practice with the team?

"Then there's the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List. If by the end of the preseason a player isn't medically cleared yet, he can be transferred to the Reserve/PUP, which prevents that player from playing and practicing during the first six weeks of the season -- however that player doesn't count against the 53-man roster. If the player isn't activated after the sixth week, the team has a three-week window to make a decision."

Why would this disallow him from practicing. The point of being on that list would be to A. recover from one's injury and B. get back into shape to play football again.......you must practice in order to do that....no?

But the rules that I read say if you are on that list you cannot play OR practice for 6 weeks.

  • If his elbows hurt enough to warrant PUP consideration, he wouldn't be practicing anyway... That's the shortest reserve list there is. They'll have to have a positive report by Saturday or that's whats going to happen... Or, they keep him on the 53 and stash Duke or Desir on the PUP...

I understand that is the rule.....my question is.....why no practice? I could understand no practice for 3-4 weeks.....but after that a player has to try to get in condition to play and be reactivated.

    Nonsensical, no?

Total nonsense. But the owners and players associations agreed to it unfortunately.

If JM can't practice from now thru the first 6 games then it's another lost season. I hope they just decide to keep him on the 53 and not take that chance.

  • Per a report I heard this morning: Johnny Football may not be on the 53 man roster starting day....he would be placed on one or another injury list.

What say you all about that?

I'm fine with it. Thad Lewis is a better NFL QB at this point in their respective careers.

Ergo, see my trade proposal thread!

Not surprised at all if it happens. His bow bow is no doubt worse than they're admitting.

  • What say you all about that? Gip

See Denver. One of the qb's the Broncos don't keep.

  • So what about all those people saying he could play if this were the season?

  • Suddenly those 4-12 predictions don't look so far-fetched.

Wow....our back up(who has never done anything anyway) has a sore elbow and all of sudden our season is down the tubes?????...

Maybe Im missing your points, but right now and compared to last season, our starter AND our back up(Lewis) look MUCH better than what we had last season.....which was 7-9....

Heck, based on what Ive seen so far, I expect McCown to be as good or better than Hoyer....and IF he goes down....I expect Thad to be better than JFF was....

So, how do we get worse, when we have 2 QB's who are playing better than the ones we had last year????

Really.....Just a week or 2 ago, everyone was excited because Johnny was playing better, but now that he has some soreness in his arm and they decide to rest him.....all of a sudden.....everyone thinks he's injury prone, or his elbow is gonna be a life long problem, or we should just give up and trade him for RGIII....

    smfh.....

  • I agree. I don't see how missing a couple of weeks has any effect. I haven't found anything yet that says he will be put on pup. Unless he really has severe tendon damage like a rupture, and needs surgery, I don't see why he won't be ready to play by opening day.

  • So what about all those people saying he could play if this were the season?

    @wargograw said:

That was Mike Pettine who said that, I think he said "probably".

If it needs more time, or if it us a chronic thing, it's going to cost us a roster spot, cause you need two QBs to practice.

  • I base my comments on what I've seen so far this preseason.

A couple more hits like he took against TB and McCown will be sitting on the bench, staring vacantly

into space. The Browns are counting on McCown to be the man this season.

JM has looked much better this season, but now his elbow is a question. Which brings us to

Thad Lewis, who until recently was fighting Connor Shaw for playing time.

Sorry, but the last 15 years of The Smell of Ass that has been Browns football has left me a glass half-empty guy.

My comments were based on JM going to PUP which would mean no practice and no games 6 weeks into the season. I totally disagree wiith putting him on PUP for the exact reasons Dste Ace stated above. McCown won't last 6 weeks with 3 hits a week like those last Sat. and TL was not even beating out CS.

Yeah, I agree...he wont be going to the PUP...

All I hear is he was clean on the MRI and is resting the arm.....my money says he could play if we needed him to.....

And, if not, I stand by my comparison to last pre-season, in that we are in better shape now than we were then....🙂

No need to be sorry....thats your problem, not mine.....

  • RE: Johnnys pressy today.....

He said he's had this for several years, but it is(and has been) very manageable.....could play today if asked...

Just sore....Just resting....no underlying conspiracy to hide a bigger problem....

Thats what I figured. The usual Cleveland panic mode sets in.
