    RE: Johnnys pressy today.....

He said he's had this for several years, but it is(and has been) very manageable.....could play today if asked...

Just sore....Just resting....no underlying conspiracy to hide a bigger problem....

Thats what I figured. The usual Cleveland panic mode sets in.

Panic would imply that Browns fans are relying on JFF. Honestly, at this point JFF is an afterthought for Browns fans (except unless any of them work for ESPN).

There is no reliance on or expectation of contribution to the Browns by JFF this year.

  • From Petine at presser: On an update on QB Johnny Manzielicon-article-link.gif and when he might resume throwing:

“Yeah, he’s close. I just spoke with (head athletic trainer) Joe Sheehan about that, that he’s where we thought he would be in the progression and that we’re confident by the end of the week that he’ll be able to handle the football and throw it.”

Maybe for you, but for many others there is.

Wow, handle a football and maybe even throw it.

  • The start to finish of this thread is hilarious

  • 7 days and 7 pages later, JM did not play last Saturday and will not play this Thursday in Chicago. Now can we close this and hope for Aggie Football sooner than later 😉

  • LOL! Even with doing everything right a sore elbow still polarizes folks. 😁

We weren't expecting him to beat out a journeyman, but being able to "handle a football" going into final cuts would have been nice.

Why the fuck is a 5'11 quarterback throwing sidearm anyway ... has anybody ever actually coached this kid?

  • Some of y'all need remedial reading... badly...

The way I read the rule is that in order to get to the Regular season PUP list you have to have been on the pre-season PUP list. Here was my first clue...

"A player who finishes the preseason still on the PUP list can then be placed on the regular-season PUP list."

But... "A player cannot be placed on the (Pre-season) PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes."

So forget the PUP... only option would be the IR designated return.... and no way are we doing that.

Maybe the elbow finally "dried out"... 😎

    It's worth some consideration.

  • No its not. He will play and turn it around.

Well I'm rooting for him, but the team comes first. The plan is for him to backup. I think Lewis can backup just as well. So if there are any issues going forward that he can't play or practice because of this elbow issue, shut him down for 8 weeks, Lewis can do his job.

Just don't keep three QBs and cost one of these promising young guys a roster spot, only for them to go tear it up somewhere else.

  • Ive been worried about 3 QB's all along.....figured it would happen simply because they didnt have confidence in JFF....now, maybe because of the elbow....

But Im with you 100%....I only want 2 so we dont lose a good prospect !!!

  • I'm on board for PUP, but Tour is saying it's not an option (unless I ironically misread his post telling us we can't read, lol). I think it'd be a smart play. But it feels more like wishful thinking than an actual option, since his arm is likely fine.

If the elbow is that bad, then regular IR is an option. The designated for return option is too valuable for a back up QB with an "injury" of apparently indeterminate duration.

Assuming Pryor makes the 53, and I still think that is likely, McCown and JM with Pryor as the emergency QB is still viable. If that means Pryor is the defacto #2 for the first couple weeks, then I could live with that.

I don't think they want any part of Pryor playing QB, I think a viable option is cutting Thad and adding Devlin (or somebody else they like) to the practice squad to pick up Johnny's practice reps and keep his arm fresh.

I think Manziel may add a little value to the roster from the perspective of coming in for two point conversions. But Thad would be just as good at leading the team on Sundays if Josh goes down, IMO

  • I just don't understand where anyone is getting any type of information that this is a serious issue. I get that it's "chronic" but no one recommended surgery or extended therapy. Pettine has said he's close to throwing and we still got 11 days before his services would be needed if at all. That's already coming off of nearly two weeks rest. Is there a story I missed somewhere other than pure speculation that says differently? If so the PUP talk is meaningless.

Don't be surprised if the Browns pick up somebody that is on the cut list. A Zac Dysert, Taj Boyd type.
