  • Some of y'all need remedial reading... badly...

The way I read the rule is that in order to get to the Regular season PUP list you have to have been on the pre-season PUP list. Here was my first clue...

"A player who finishes the preseason still on the PUP list can then be placed on the regular-season PUP list."

But... "A player cannot be placed on the (Pre-season) PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes."

So forget the PUP... only option would be the IR designated return.... and no way are we doing that.

  • LOL! Even with doing everything right a sore elbow still polarizes folks. 😁

Maybe the elbow finally "dried out"... 😎

    It's worth some consideration.

  • No its not. He will play and turn it around.

Well I'm rooting for him, but the team comes first. The plan is for him to backup. I think Lewis can backup just as well. So if there are any issues going forward that he can't play or practice because of this elbow issue, shut him down for 8 weeks, Lewis can do his job.

Just don't keep three QBs and cost one of these promising young guys a roster spot, only for them to go tear it up somewhere else.

    Zombo

  • Ive been worried about 3 QB's all along.....figured it would happen simply because they didnt have confidence in JFF....now, maybe because of the elbow....

But Im with you 100%....I only want 2 so we dont lose a good prospect !!!

  • I'm on board for PUP, but Tour is saying it's not an option (unless I ironically misread his post telling us we can't read, lol). I think it'd be a smart play. But it feels more like wishful thinking than an actual option, since his arm is likely fine.

If the elbow is that bad, then regular IR is an option. The designated for return option is too valuable for a back up QB with an "injury" of apparently indeterminate duration.

Assuming Pryor makes the 53, and I still think that is likely, McCown and JM with Pryor as the emergency QB is still viable. If that means Pryor is the defacto #2 for the first couple weeks, then I could live with that.

I don't think they want any part of Pryor playing QB, I think a viable option is cutting Thad and adding Devlin (or somebody else they like) to the practice squad to pick up Johnny's practice reps and keep his arm fresh.

I think Manziel may add a little value to the roster from the perspective of coming in for two point conversions. But Thad would be just as good at leading the team on Sundays if Josh goes down, IMO

  • I just don't understand where anyone is getting any type of information that this is a serious issue. I get that it's "chronic" but no one recommended surgery or extended therapy. Pettine has said he's close to throwing and we still got 11 days before his services would be needed if at all. That's already coming off of nearly two weeks rest. Is there a story I missed somewhere other than pure speculation that says differently? If so the PUP talk is meaningless.

Don't be surprised if the Browns pick up somebody that is on the cut list. A Zac Dysert, Taj Boyd type.

  • I see they have expanded practice squads to up to ten players ... so the Devlin/developmental guy on the PSis obably the way they will go if Johnny can "handle a football".

    Zombo

  • Pettine was discussing the number of QB's he would have on " the squad" yesterday. He said that he would have no issue of carrying 3 or 4. Now what he interprets as "the squad" could have a couple of different meanings.

So with Thad gone Devlin on the PS and JM "resting", then who's the emergency #2 for a couple games?

If Manziel can't actually play for two weeks, they aren't cutting Thad.

    Zombo

  • Personally I'd risk that Josh can stay upright for two weeks...

Again, where the hell are you reading that he can't play for two weeks? Seriously is there something I don't know because everything I've read said this really isn't a big deal.

  • Pryor holds the keys to this whole QB 3 mess and I hope he drives the bus into Chicago for a score. 1. Mc Cown 2.Manziel 3.Pryor played QB for Flipo. Thad and Devilin will be cut in a other need 53. When #1 or #2 goes down, theirs always that guy on the street before Pryor. JM throwing right handed before the final cut down will be key also and we may hear all about it..

    It was Tour's hypothetical situation.

Not being able to throw a football for three weeks is a red flag.

The Browns are saying he should be fine. Johnny is saying he'll be fine.

But a "chronic problem" that shuts you down for three weeks before the season starts is something to raise an eyebrow over ... and it very well could effect a roster spot ... especially if this is a recurring thing and he can't can't take full practice reps.
