Jets did not have Williams at DT last year. Major difference I think will play out going forward. Guy is an absolute dominant player as our left side found out the hard way. He owned that side of the line.

  • Nice find Diehard. I've been saying for some time, never count this kid out. He does not give up as easy as some fans do. He will give everything he's got to turn the team around. If he makes mistakes it will always be on the side of trying to do too much, unlike some who are there just to collect a paycheck. That's why Josh likes him so much. They are peas in a pod.

  • Good God on the way to another 72 pager. There is no OL out there that wants their QB to scramble outside their pocket. Don't hold the ball, see your coverage and throw it. Step up in pocket yes. Yes a pocket can breakdown and when JM rolls out of it is when his troubles begin because he is not protected. This is why Josh is your Starter and this is why the starting OL has no patients with JM cause they don't know if he is even still their. See Ya on page 4 😉

  • What happened game one was irrelevant Manziel was in by week 7

  • If the kid will keep his eyes downfield while scrambling...... Stay in the pocket when he can and not look to scramble every play...... Protect the damn football....... Maybe. Until then......?

  • I heard,it was a ten ounce bottle of Holy Water all the way from Lourdes

  • Manziel reminds me of a lot of borderline guys. If he gets into a good rhythm, and doesn't have to do it all himself, he can be effective. Problem is his margin for error is pretty small.

I'll wait for tour's report on how well the OL held the pocket for him. Impression in the 2nd half was not very often.

  • AG. Tape don't lie. Look when JM scrambles UP IN LINE vs OUTSIDE OF POCKET. Take the best situation, wait on Tour & Go Aggies!!

  • I thought Manziel looked good scrambling against the Jets. He looked quicker than last season and made some good runs and seemed to know when he had made as much yardage as possible before taking a slide. He threw a great td pass and this time around got behind center like he was in control and running the offense. I don't know if he is the answer or not but his effort during the off season showed in his performance. Manziel was running an offense that was struggling to get the running game going and that always makes it an uphill battle for any qb. Manziel was extending plays, making plays with his feet and showed me the potential he has. He needs to keep mistakes down and not turn the ball over but that might only come by getting playing time.

It doesn't matter if it is Manziel or McCown this team has got to get the running game going or it will be a long season. They have the offensive line and good enough running backs to do it.

    Old minds think alike...

  • If he improves sensing pressure and protects the ball he makes a 100% leap forward

Methane.. One big fart can blow the whole mutha up at seasons end LOL!

  • I don't understand when we drafted Manziel what our vision was with what we were going to do with him? Was our plan to take a mobile qb and develop him into a pocket passer? I agree that working on making him a better qb inside the pocket is good but is that who he is? Even his size is working against him inside the pocket at 5'11'' trying to look down the field and throw surrounded by huge lineman towering over him. He has always been best as a roll out passer and scrambling.

One of the best compliments I heard about Manziel coming out of A & M was from Fran Tarkenton who said of anyone in the NFL it was Manziel who played the most similar to him. The problem however is that many of the NFL talking heads say that in Todays NFL the days of qb's like Fran Tarkenton have passed.

I think the Browns are working to make Manziel a better pocket passer and that is good but I still like a qb who can scramble like Manziel and drive defenses crazy.

Here is a good article on why I am wrong though:

    For the umpteenth time since Fran Tarkenton, the mobile quarterback revolution has failed;

    the pocket passer reigns on.

Maybe looking at a qb like Russell Wilson is more the vision for a qb like Manziel:

"Wilson does most of his running east to west. He's not a zone-read weapon or a two-read-and-take-off sprinter. He's not a tailback with an arm, but an instinctual quarterback in the Tarkenton mold.

Pete Carroll doesn't have to balance Wilson's ability to run with his health; Wilson generally doesn't gain yards on the ground unless he's run entirely away from the defense. Carroll's challenge is to speed up Wilson's in-pocket decision-making so he can execute the offense as intended."

  • The plan is to make JFF something like Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers or Big Ben - pocket passer first, but with great ability to make things happen from broken plays, ability to pick up yardage with his legs at times, but not play 'turkey bowl' football like he had a tendency to in Texas.

At least, that's what I'd imagine, and seems to be their plan.

I agree Chris except probably more like Wilson over Roethlisberger. JM is going to need some elevator shoes to be a qb like Roethlisberger.

  • The main reason JM moves out of the pocket is because he can't see over the lineman, he's always going to have to roll out.

Sure, BR is super hard to take down or get the ball off, JM isn't going to be that. Point was more about keeping plays alive and making things happen.
