It's not that I'm calling Hoge a great eye for talent at the QB position, he's be wrong before but at least he has owned that.
To date, there is little to indicated he'll be wrong about Manziel.
edit: Hoge wasn't wrong about Tebow either. How did Timmy fare after that defense carried his ass to the play offs
while asking him to make a play only here and there?
So the guy is 2 for 3, basically.

Until the Browns play him a full season, the jury will stay out on whether he will be the QB for the Browns or not. He has two things to work on now the way I see it. #1 is ball security. And the other is the patience enough not to have to score every possession. The second for JM will be the hardest because he has had to score frequently his entire playing career. The best thing the Browns can do is fix this broken D. I did not like what I saw out there in game 1.

I agree but as long as McCown is the qb giving us the best chance to win we have to go with him. Regardless of the qb though the offense has to get their running backs gaining some yards and not depend on the qb's for a running game. Defense was a disappointment against the Jets and it will be interesting to see how they do this week. I'm betting we see much improvement.

just don't fumble the reigns.

Seriously though, a big performance here, and there'll be question marks a plenty heading in to week 3.

And the JFF era begins.....

Well at least this year we're polarized over his play on the field...
All I am saying is that my early, first viewing estimate of the improvement JM displayed in Game 1 was vastly over stated. I haven't given up hope, but I'd be lying if I said that the elbow development did not concern me. How can a developing QB develop if he has to be put on a pitch count? And JM still has a very long way to go...
What JM did well were the hot reads. I think he was 3 for 3 in finding the target left by the blitzing DB. He also froze the Safety on one occasion by looking directly at him before coming off to his primary, Hawk on 2nd and goal in what turned out to be our FG drive. Unfortunately he could not pull the trigger on a throw to the back pylon.
As for his elbow... the tape shows why it was likely sore as hell Monday. Mechanically he fell apart in the game. I saw two, only two, throws where he actually strode to his target: the Q3 strike in the half's first series to Hart on 3rd and 9, and an 8-yarder to Gabe on a slant in the 2nd play of our last possession. Otherwise he was flying open with shoulders and hips like... and I do not say this lightly... like bad Brian Hoyer. The difference being that JM has the arm strength to get away with poor mechanics more often than BH. However, in addition to the strain on his arm the poor feet hurt his accuracy.
I won't get into his "pocket presence" except to say that never in 2014 did I grade our O-line with straight "+" across the board on a play that ended in a strip sack.
Lastly, when JM's defenders start blaming our defense...

This offensive line had better be ready to see us run the ball 40+ times otherwise its going to be a slaughter.

Vegas had it right...
Did McCown not clear protocol?
Obviously not...
Josh McCown, who left last week’s season opener in the first quarter, remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol and will not practice this afternoon.

I pray the Browns bring the defense with them this time.

And the JFF era begins.....
He's had a full week of practice and meetings as the #1. He's going against an average defense and doing so at home, and in the home opener no less. He has everything going for him, so we'll all know at lot more after the next 4qtrs of Browns football.
Hopefully, for all of our sakes, he's as good as you and others have been saying he is............... I'll be rooting the lil' fella on that's for sure.

Agreed and I hope JF is also better prepared. Otherwise, it could be another blowout.

Ha!....
Last year he was terrible because...
1) We were unfair in playing him too soon(week 13?).....
2) Shanny switched the offense to suite him, which was bad....
3) or....Shanny didnt switch the offense to suite him, which was bad...
4) We had him run a bootleg and got him hurt....
This year(so far), its.....
1) Because our Defense is bad and didnt give him the ball enough....
2) The fans are mean to him, so now his confidence is bruised....
3) The offensive line didnt even give him a chance....
4) Our receivers dont know how to come back for the pass...
5) Our receivers cant get open.....
6) Our receivers are too short....
So, there's that.....(those).....
