can someone explain why Soloman is on the field?

  • Letting Sheard go was a big mistake. Solomon is often injured and makes very little impact when he's on the field. I don't know why Pettine and O Neill thought such a journeyman could replace Sheard.

Am l the only one sick of seeing the word "journeyman"?

Every time l see it, my brain sees it as "Journey, man".

Which inevitably leads to "Don't Stop Beievin'" running through my head.

You people need to cut that shit out. Find another word to describe players who have bounced around with a few teams.

Sheard (Patriots), Skrine (Jets) and Ward (Broncos) have become valued members of new teams with a combined 10-1 record. The Browns' tortured draft history since 1999 is well chronicled so when a player the organization has developed leaves and enjoys success elsewhere it's difficult for some to accept. Especially, when the salary cap is not issue.

you think farmer ant the FO just let people go, to let them go?

all these guys wanted more money or didn't fit into the system that this coaching staff was turning to.

    shoulda woulda coulda.

quit crying already. what 2 teams are famous for letting 2-3 year players go because of contracts or system failures? yep. patriots and steelers. seems like they've been doing alright now for like 3 decades.

Ward and Skrine were replaced with competent players ... albeit older players. So now we gotta find younger players, not sure why we didn't want to pay those dudes.

Sheard was allowed to go and Orchard is the replacement.

So sure thing replaced with hopeful young replacement.

We never get better and I think the root of the problem is changing front offices and coaches so often that "Sheard does fit soandsos defense" and "Ward wasn't soandsos guy" ... Yes the Browns developed them, but not THESE Browns.

Now look at New England, Pittsburgh, Baltimore ... teams that have the same coach and same front office every year. The good players get second contracts, and free agents see it as a destination, not a place to get out of it.

If we can get some momentum this year, 8-8 or better, and we keep Farm and Pet around we can start to change this ... But we GOTTA draft better in the early rounds. Shelton may be coming around though, good game this week, I thought.

  • Like what does he do on an NFL field that justifies his presence there? Not knocking the guys toughness i'm sure he's a beast, but he get swallowed up every trip off the line. Gets washed out of every running play to his side, often by a single TE. Never fights out of a single block, I just don't understand. He's not particularly fast around the edge nor does he set a Golem like edge. What, does, he, do?

This could be a description for Kruger too......Kruger was playing so badly that they gave 40 of his snaps to Solomon....gotta try something when your starter isnt performing....right?

Last week...A. Bryant(1), Solomon, Mingo, Kruger AND Kirksey all combined for exactly ONE tackle.......thats a real stat right there....5 linebackers 1 tackle.....

Orchard(4), Dansby(9) and Carder(3) were the only ones who played apparently.....

    or another perspective....

    Dansby 9 tackles....

And all the rest( the 7 other linebackers) had 8......

And Jukebox Hero is a good change of pace.

The sad thing is that this horrible defensive performance happens week after week with no sign it will or can be corrected. How could Pettine and O'Neil have missed it so bad on defense? They both spoke before the season started that they had expectations our defense could even be one of the elites in the league. Huge disappointment. Thankfully our offense has over achieved.

Well they didn't take Kruger off the field much did they? Most of the time those two guys are on the field at the same time just with Soloman in a 3 point and Kruger standing up. Which is one of the most flabbergasting personnel moves I've ever witnessed. I have no understanding for it whatsoever. I felt it was awkward enough having Kruger and Sheard on the field at the same time but at least there was only 2 DL so those two basically just played stand up DE's.

This year we have 3 DL with Soloman on the edge hands down as a 4-3 DE (they've never stood him up)...and Kruger standing up on one of the edges. I thought at first this was some gimmicky stuff in preseason to spring Kruger into the backfield better. But no that's our base D. I don't even know what the fuck you call it, besides awful. If you're gonna bring up a 5th guy to the line he'd better be closer in size and speed to Mingo than Kruger. Otherwise you're asking for severe mismatches.

    70 defensive snaps.

    Solomon played 31.

    Kruger played 28.

Exactly.....Kruger has averaged 60 snaps per game and this week got 28....Mingo only got 3.....

and these 2^^^^^ had the fewest snaps of all the LBs.....which tells me the coaches dont like their performance and benched them to give the other guys a look.....

Hopefully it wakes them up.....or, at least, gives someone else a chance to step up......

Or...the coaches could let Kruger do what Kruger is good at instead of making him drop back into coverage. If they play him to his weaknesses, why would they expect stellar performance?

wow I would not have guessed Kruger played so few snaps. That just doesn't pass the eyeball test, i'm usually always checking out who the edges are to see what we might be running on that play. Krugers hard to miss with that long hair and he's usually standing. If he's gonna get so few snaps, they should "all" be with his hands down. There's zero reason to get into his reserve tank by running him around.

To me, it seems he cant cover well and he cant play the run well.....so Im not really sure what he's good at except bull rushing the QB(and he's pretty marginal at that too).....

Fact is, no matter what they do with him, he's not making plays and he's getting nullified on almost every snap..(rush, run, cover)....

I see the coaches moving these guys around in an effort to get "someone" to make play.....hey, they gotta try something....

well I see what you were going for there, but half of Solomon is going to be even less effectual than the full version. I dont' see any win there.
