Are any of those LBs doing anything decent?

It's early....but they are outperforming our OLBs....all have more sacks & tackles than Kruger or Orchard or Mingo or Solomon....which, right now, doesnt take much to do......

Given that any member of the browns board has as many sacks as mingo orchard and solomon combined, and is only a half behind kruger, not saying much.

I really hope Pet just gives up on shoehorning thse 3-4 people into his scheme. Just go to the base 4-3, trade Kruger and draft Bosa. We could have a front 4 next year consisting of the Bryants, Shelton, Starks, Meder and Bosa. If we pick up some really good LB'er that we can flash a 3-4 at people from time to time, you can move Bosa to the 5 tech..it's what they do with him now at OSU. Do this. If we can't get Bosa than at least move Kruger back to his 4-3 DE weight. Maybe if him and Armonty can get back into the low 280's we can have some edges that can fold in the running lanes or maybe even throw a lineman or TE off them every now and then and make the tackle.

I disagree with basically everything you just posted. If you switch to a 4-3, Kruger is set as a pure DE.

If you draft Bosa, you play him as a 3-4 DE - he's basically a JJ Watt clone, so put him in the same place. Shelton is a nose tackle, almost exclusively, so asking him to play 4-3 DT is a waste of his talents.

Like it or not, that's the way we're set for the next few years, building around Shelton, Cooper and Orchard.

no. you build around solid players that the franchise recognizes as real nfl players.

shelton yes. cooper and orchard ? maybe but..........

anyone can always be replaced by draft or FA and if these guys (gilbert included...my fave) can't get the job done then get what you can for them and move on.

But of the four Browns you mention only Kruger has played a significant number of Defensive snaps... yes? And Mingo is the only ST regular.

    Here are the picks': TotalSnaps/D-Snaps/D-Snap%/Sacks/Tackles/Assts.

    Vic Beasley #8 to Atl. 212 / 194 / 57.7 / 2.0 / 8 / 4

    Bud Dupree #22 to PTG. 204 / 181 / 51.0 / 3.0 / 9 / 4

    Shag Thompson #25 Car. 191 / 148 / 48.7 / 1.0 /11 / 5

    Randy Gregory #60 DAL.. 23 /. 19 /. 5.8 / no stats

    Shane Ray #23 to .DNV. 104 /. 94 / 27.6 / 2.0 / 3 / 1

These aren't the 3-down OLBs I've craved since Clay left... but I could have made due with Beasley... 😉

    • I don't see Cooper and Orchard as "foundational" players.
    • Bosa strikes me as a perfect 4-3 DE... but in any case, please don't go to the Watt-clone place... he's not.
    • 4-3 DTs line up on the Center's nose every Sunday in the NFL.
    • I thought Kruger made his name primarily as a 4-3 DE that sometimes stood up and we reversed that.

Isn't that where Kruger is going to be even just marginally productive? Isn't it clear enough that as a standup 3-4 olb'er he's an utter failure? He came from Blt where they almost strictly put his hands in the dirt and rushed him off the tackles outside shoulder. He was rated as a 3-4 olb'er only because Blt was still mostly a 3-4 team and occasionally they stood Kruger up.

Bosa can play the 3-4 5 tech but imo that's a waste of his outside rush ability. He utterly caves in tackles outside shoulders. If he can continue that in the NFL he's going to be special. Look at what Watt does the few times they line him up outside like a 4-3 DE. I see no reason why we can't move Bosa around like they do with Watt. Difference is I think we have more interior talent than Houston so why play Bosa a lot inside? Why not put him outside the tackles? We could have a guy that carves down the edge like few if any rushers we've ever had in Cleveland. If we can sign or draft a real good speed rushing DE, like Mingo was supposed to be...we could do some really interesting things with that guy and Bosa on the other side.

You won't see Soloman on the field anymore this season...

So? What is Don Jones going to bring to the table?
