Not sure where you got "it's Manziel Thursday"
The real answer is "It's Manziel Thursday if McCown isn't able to go" I have a hard time seeing McC being able to go Thursday, but we don't know his status yet - it has already been said if McCown can go it'll be McCown.
Either guy will probably have a rough Thursday really, but we usually play well against the Bungles and they forget how to play when it's dark outside.

The Bengals can't play after 8PM, don't forget that. We seem to be at our best in prime time games, but then again we don't get that many of them.

Manziel will start this Thursday or the sunday after.....just depends on whether Pettine wants to give him a full week of practice before the switch is made.
I think Pettine wants to keep his job, and even though it looks like he is almost certainly going to be fired after this year(you see him looking like such a sad defeated man in pressers), he knows that the only sliver of hope he has is to try to make a change and have JM create some hope for the future. If Manziel can go 4-3 or whatever with some nice play towards the last 7 games, it is within the realm of possibility for Haslam and co to say "you know, maybe pettine and manziel have us on the upswing".....
The problem is I don't think Pettine believes in manziel....at all. So that's a problem.
Pettine is fucked either way really....he's probably trying to put off bringing JM in as long as possible because he feels that he has a better chance of making a superficial positive impression with a small sample size. But then the problem is if Manziel is brought in with 4 games left and plays well and goes 3-1, Pettine is going to take heat because the obvious criticism is going to be "where was he earlier".....
Pettine has really put himself in a no win situation....short of bringing johnny in now and finishing 7-1 or something absurd.

Your logic is flawed because McCown isn't the main reason we're losing games at the moment, but maybe I'm not looking at the "right stats"

I actually LOL when I read this. Add in leg broken. You have to remember (even though it doesn't show up well) Board rule- If you want to be sarcastic- put it in pink font.
With the short turnaround- considering the beating McCown took on Sunday- Pettine won't be doing Josh any favors playing him Thursday night. Considering the pass rush the Bengals will generate, Manziel has a slightly higher escapability quotient than Josh.
Compared to the Bengals WR contingent, the Brown's pretty much sucks. If Haden is out again- we have no one who can cover AJ Green.

bbedward- I have no idea if Johnny plays well. I wont make excuses if he doesn't. He needs to have several starts, and if he doesn't show a lot in those we can write him off as a potential contributor to this team in a real sense I believe. I think, based on what I've seen, it's more likely than not that Johnny is not a big splash in his several starts. but if your pettine I still think you gotta roll the dice and try it. A chance of hanging on to your job if he does a lot better than everyone(including he) thinks is much better than the death spiral he is currently in.
