You still won't get anybody to give you Colt Mccoy or Trent Richardson though 😉

Right now Carr does look like the best QB out of 2014 though.

  • Oakland used a shocking formula. Draft a talented, young QB. Let him play a full year so he can get his feet wet. Then draft a badass WR so he has a reliable playmaker. Sign a veteran WR with good size, and great hands. And mix in running the ball.

I was screaming for Carr, and the one issue I had was the system he played in. After watching multiple games he played, I wasn't concerned anymore. The reason is that he appeared mature, and appeared that he'd be willing to work. I didn't view Carr as a gamble because he wasn't going to be a top 5 pick or anything, so if you take him in THE SECOND ROUND, it's not as big of a deal if he doesn't work. Carr has size, athletic ability, can throw on the run, and isn't afraid to throw deep routes. The other guy I was screaming for was Bridewater. He was thought to be the most pro ready by many analysts, and while he's not setting the league on fire statistically, he's certainly displaying good promise. Again, he has a running game. That tends to HELP.

The Browns almost done it the Oakland way.

They drafted a badass WR (Josh Gordon). Then they drafted a QB (Manziel). Then they signed a veteran WR (Dwayne Bowe).

    Somehow that's not working.

  • It's definitely more than just poor drafting since 99, too many misses for it to be just picking poor players

I'd agree if we saw a bunch of the dudes we draft do good somewhere else, but that rarely happens. Everyone talked about how Phil Taylor was a surprise cut and he's still sitting on the couch. Go down the list like that and it shows the dudes we drafted just weren't good football players.

Exactly- since 1999, how many guys have we cut gone on to have stellar careers elsewhere?

The primary problem has been horrendous drafting. The list of our Pro Bowl players of late is mighty short. How good would the Browns defense be right now if we had JJ Watt and Clay Matthews on it? They were both on the board when we picked- and passed. 🙁

  • By the time we cut them it's too late, their careers have stanganted too much. It can't just be evaluation, it's almost impossible for it to be the case.

When it comes down to drafting, a blind monkey throwing darts at a dartboard would do better.
  • Canton Dawg...you bring up a good point. What really sucks for us is, even when we do things that look good, they just don't work out. I mean, look at our team at the beginning of the year. We had the same offensive line that started last year so effectively, when we ran the ball down the throat of our opponents, and protected Hoyer well. We had a healthy Crow, a new weapon in Duke, and we figured Gabriel and Hawkins would be the same, if not better. We were going to be better against the run with Shelton, and Mingo and Orchard would help Kruger bring the heat on the qb's. Basically EVERYTHING we tried to do, and thought we'd BE ABLE TO DO, hasn't worked. Nothing is working, and if you ask me, our coach can't comprehend it.

I want to start Manziel to give him as much experience as possible, but I also don't think it's fair to him. Just who in the hell is he supposed to throw to? No Miles Austin on 3rd down, and nobody with any size to bail him out on a "50/50 ball".

Maybe... but that sure as hell ain't working for my College Pick 'Em this year.

  • My mock draft had Mack and Carr or Bridgewater in 2014. But Carr and Bridgewater would probably still be on the bench. I know nobody saw the Justin Gilbert thing coming.

Right now they have the Browns taking a quarterback in 2016 but I still want Joey Bosa and a wide receiver who is big, strong and can fight off the defender. What good is a QB with a receiving core under 5'8". Every team has a little guy but a whole team,of little guys isn't working.

I truly believe the Trent Richardson pick will go down as a top ten draft mistake in the history of the NFL- pending on how Manziel does or doesn't pan out. Doubling down, and screwing up twice?

  • I find it funny how so many hated this guy on this board.

It was Manziel Manziel and more Manziel.

    Carr is a stud.

A cornerstone QB for the next decade.

How da hell did we miss him?

    2 reasons.

    A homeless bum's advice.

And a 'Wreck the league' phone call.

don't know hoorta. are you talking about just the brown's org top ten or nfl top ten? cuz there's a boatload ahead of TR (which i didn't like as well).

at least we didn't give up four picks to draft the guy and then have him on the bench as a 'jarred from subway' disciple wit.h a clipboard just getting paid for nuthin.

I'm not even sure the Redskins are letting RGIII hold a clipboard at this point.

  • yeah you're right. i think he's playing some game from an app on his phone while dudes get busted up on the field.

I'll stand by my assertion Mik. Now we do have Browns busts like Mike Junkin, and Craig Powell. (We didn't give up multiple picks however, and they both were drafted lower)

Looking at Bleacher Report's top 50- that did jog my memory about some all time stinkers like Akilli "worm burner" Smith. (Credit that term to Sam Snead on golf- Akilli had a propensity to throw bullets into the dirt 5-10 yards in front of the intended receiver.)

Trent belongs in that sucky company. They have Lawrence Phillips @ #4, Ki-Jana Carter @ #11, Blair Thomas @ #13, and Curtis Enis @ #22. I couldn't put Trent as better than any one of those bums. BTW, Enis only rushed for 400 yards less than Richardson, and had an identical 3.3 ypc.

In a lot of ways...he's worse than Ki-Jana and Enis because they both got hurt and were never the same (can't remember if that happened to Thomas as well). Trent is completely healthy, just not very good. Kinda like who's worse, Ryan Leaf or RGIII? Well.....RGIII got hurt and lost is biggest weapon. Leaf just sucks. I think the guys, like Richardson, who are completely healthy but out of the league are worse than the guys who can say that injury made them lose a step or more.

  • in the browns org draft busts i'd prob rate him like 10 behind powell, weeden, brown, green, faine, wimbley, warren, quinn etc. etc.

Junkin has to be #1, seven starts in his crummy career- and nothing else according to PFR. Courtney Brown made the BR list, as did Quinn.

Smokin' the Green is close in suckitude- but remember, we're talking lower drafted, and no picks thrown in to get the bum.

BTW, you're not considering what a player did AFTER they left the Browns, if you want to put Faine, Wimbley, and Warren on the list. They all had lengthy, if mediocre careers. Wimbley was still playing in 2014. Worth where they were drafted? Nope, but considering total career output- they certainly can't be labeled busts, if you hang around in the NFL for 9-10 seasons.

I've mentioned many times one of the things that pisses me off the most in the Browns history of drafting under performers- We took "Spare Change" Warren instead of the guy I wanted- Ladanian Tomlinson. So since we didn't get him- we made up for it next year by taking Willie Green.

  • liked green. not talent wise....but at least he busted greg lloyd in the grill for talking shit before a game.
