Camp Goff

The Browns Board

  • Yep....Goff and Wentz clearly look like to only 2 serious candidates for a high first pick.....never liked Lynch, but now I think we can comfortably scratch him as a possible pick for the Browns in the first....just did not look good....

I'd be happy with either, though still prefer Goff based on the brain and anticipation/quick release.

Funny you should say that as I just finished reading this:

QB insights are never-ending at the combine

Every year, these interviews invariably produce a handful of nuggets related to quarterback selection and development that shine a light on how specific teams and coaches think about the position at large. Bruce Arians got several questions about how to groom a young quarterback, and just about every bit of the answer was worth noting.

Arians said that in evaluating quarterbacks, he tends to focus less on the arm strength, mechanics and several other factors that scouts and experts tend to obsess over this time of year. “To me, the quarterback position is just about one thing: that’s processing information really fast,” Arians says. “If you can process it, I don’t care how weak your arm is or how strong your arm is, you’ll get the ball to the receiver at the right spot, the right time. If you can’t process the information and you’re going to wait to see him open, you’re going to throw a lot of interceptions.”

If I'm not mixing this up here, Goff's footwork for a guy that never got up under center looked as smooth and efficient as if it's all he's been doing all this time. This kid made everything look easy.

Lynch was the "never" guy, but I believe Goff was a close second.

What got me is in the footage for this discussion the only prospect whose footwork drill was shown was Goff.

Tour, I think it was in the 7 step drop drill where it was mentioned about Goff not being up under center throughout college.

    99.8% of snaps from shotgun.

  • To me - Goff looks far superior to Wentz.

He has better mechanics, better footwork, a better release, and his progressions are beautiful.

Wentz has the size, arm, and athleticism.

I take Goff and call it a day but that's just me

  • I've said it before, but to put a word on it Goff just looks cerebral out there and everything is easy for him.

  • He didn't send a text message suggesting that we could wreck this league together did he?

Walt loves him and the only thing left for the kiss of death is if Pog loves him.

They'll tell us to draft the dual threat, unpolished but high ceiling guy over the productive, ready to go but lean and small handed QB.

It's like 2014 all over again.

Funny thing is, it could apply to loads of QBs in this draft - Goff = Bridgewater, then you have Wentz, Lynch, Prescott, Jones, Hogan and a bunch of guys who are unpolished but with 'high ceilings' because they can run a bit. Never mind that that's a tiny fraction of what a QB needs to do.

  • Wentz is more polished than people thought - but there's only a small sample size of FCS games to see of him.

Regardless, Goff is a way better prospect than Bridgewater IMO.

21 years old, eyes move with feet, quick release, perfect timing. I'll be disappointed if we go with the guy who might be able to do all the things Goff does - instead of just going with Goff. Though if we do take Wentz, I hope he turns into the stud we need.

Only concerns with Goff are his ability to play in cold weather, don't think he's ever been close to a cleveland winter looking at the schedule the last couple of years. Then smaller hands *might* be a factor. Not worried about his frame.

  • Hell... late season Cleveland home games haven't been close to "typical" Cleveland winter games the past couple years...

Seems to have been warmer for some reason...

Another Cal QB by the name of Aaron Rodgers doesn't seem to have too much trouble playing in the cold at GB.
  • The ability or inability to "play in cold weather" is not a real issue.
