Andy Lee Traded to Panthers

The team won 3 games with Lee as the punter and all his assets of putting the other team deep in their own territory. 3 fucking games...so all of you who have your panties in a bunch over this think the team would've only won 1 or 2 games without the great Andy Lee punting? The team got younger and got a draft pick and it's just a fucking punter.

We will find out soon enough how big a deal having a great punter is when the season starts.

    I don't think it's going to make a difference.

Look at how each party benefits:

    A. The Panthers get a punter that is very good at burying the opposition deep in their own territory. They went 15-1 last year.....but this still will help their defense.

    B. The Browns get a 4th round draft pick and a replacement punter...not as good, but adequate. More on this later.

    C. Andy Lee gets to go play with a Super Bowl contending team. He gets to go live where his family lives. No one can tell me that Andy Lee sees this as any kind of punishment, at all, for himself. He still gets paid his full salary...goes home...goes to a contender.

If he was being punished supposedly for dogging it, all I can say is that he must have thought that he should have dogged it earlier.

And here is what we have to look forward to taking with our 4th round pick. These are the guys taken in round 4 by the Browns since 2005:

    2005A Antonio Perkins

    2005B Isaac Sowells

    2006 Leon Williams

    2008 Beau Bell

    2009 Kaluka Maiava

    2011A Owen Marecic

    2011B Jordan Cameron

    2012 James Michael Johnson

    2013 Travis Benjamin

    2014 Pierre Desir

    2015A Vince Mayle

    2015B Ibrahim Campbell

We got a Pro Bowl TE in Cameron, a good punt returner in Benjamin....and perhaps a starting safety in Campbell. Otherwise pretty much crapola. Desir has yet to prove a thing though he is on the roster.

    Beyond that: detritus.

It will make a difference in the field position game but probably not in the final score but you can't put that on the punter. Working the field position game is what we ask of a punter.

I see both sides of this Gip and Mark...it looks like we did get a good return for Lee with a younger punter who looks to be a decent one and a 4th rounder. I thought at first it might have been a knee jerk reaction to Lee's pitiful non attempt to make a tackle on the punt return for a TD but I don't think that is the case now.

I think the team got younger, got a draft pick and also sent a message that if you play half ass, you aren't going to be on this team. Now, it can be said that the trade worked out the best for Lee, he goes to a contender and closer to home.

  • Nobody said a punter was gonna win us any games.....but watching the defense stop the team on 3rd down but still get a fg kicked on them cause of firld position is gonna get real old with u guys real quick.

  • It's not about the punter or the punter kicking 80 frickin yards or him not trying to make a tackle....it's about the flippant attitude of throwing out the only talent (which is sad i know) when there is absolutely none besides 2 guys that are on their down side of their career.

I'll tell u this, if brown and depoesta don't turn this around in 2 years every friggin person who believes in analytics will be burning those papers.

  • believe me this is not about a missed tackle. it's another 'move' that makes these guys seem relevant. these clowns are really pissing me off.

    analytics, schmanalytics.

    go fuck urself sushi.

Yup,we gonna start over with young talent and pray it's good. Football, meet Money ball.

  • I still can't believe we got a 4th rounder and a perfectly good NFL punter with career in front of him for that pussy with his career largely behind him.

  • Yeah he's a giant pussy for not laying out in a meaningless preseason game.

Operative phrase "meaningless preseason game". As a coach i wouldnt want my kicker or punter getting fucked up in a meaningless preseason game. You dont want any starters to get injured obviously but especially not the kickers or punters, especially if they're good. Those guys are not a dime a dozen as evidenced by the awful kicker we just let go. The ball never looked right coming off his foot, i dont even know why we had that guy in camp

  • Lee was the best punter we've had in a long time but just another "sell the farm" move which I've remarked here a bunch has been the plan for day one. I don't buy for a second it was because of a lazy tackle effort in a game. It's about getting an above average value for a guy who basically had one more year left to punt on an awful football team.

Grossi seems to agree with you. He was saying today that he doesn't believe it had anything to do with the lazy tackle effort, but instead the opportunity to turn a player who cost a 7th round pick and another 7th round pick into a replacement punter and a 4th round pick. Considering Andy Lee was punting the ball down the oppositions throat last season and the team went 3-13, I don't see the downside here.

  • The 4th round pick that came in the deal will more than likely be meaningless.

It's not like the Browns have been a fucking drafting juggernaut over the last decade.

Embarrassing your growing" team and fans on a weekly basis is NOT how this team will get better or create a winning culture.....they are immersing all their new talent and rookies in a cesspool of shit......

Have to wonder what Joe Thomas thinks of this...... At the rate they're destroying this team, Joe will be ready to retire by the time they're any good.

Either these Harvard guys are way smarter than all of us put together or they have no fucking clue how football works.

I"m rapidly deciding they have no clue. If they want to do the "Suck for Luck" method, they're going about it the right way.

0-16 Mark. 0-16. Get used to the idea.

Well, they did let go of a OLB and a CB and a few others on that defense as well..

They dealt the punter for the trade value.

    Yup- a 2018 4th round pick.

He already would have been, which is why we should have traded him already.

Yes they are. Maybe it won't be for "Luck" (ie a QB), but sucking is still in the best interests of this team long term regardless of position.

You post nude pics so 77Bengal can have something to look at when we win our first game. Deal?

Exactly... we won 3 games with future hall of famer and all world punter Andy Lee on the roster. There's no downside to this. Who fucking cares...its a punter for christs sake.

  • Not buying any FO/Hue friction.

Des Bryant? Seem to remember his injury dictating Ogbah's move to DE...

If Horton and Co. burned any bridges, left themselves with limited OLB options, that's on them. It's not as if Krug's poor play snuck up on them overnite.

As for Lee... fits the pattern. On field impact may materialize... Standings impact will be nil...

So, if he's in the loop, he would know Kruger was in line for the first cut....right?

And, this is a fluid process....so they've certainly been grading players all along....not just this week, right?

And the Coach, KNOWING Kruger was gonna get cut and Ogbah would be the OLB, decides to start Kruger all 3 games and play Ogbah at DE only?....with no reps at OLB, even though he is the projected starter?......no reps at OLB during camp either?

    Pffft....

So, Ill make it simple.....either he's not in the loop, which is terrible.....OR......he is in the loop and they are just completely stupid and clueless...

    There. Understand?

OR, just a CRAZY option B here, they gave the veteran the benefit of the doubt to prove himself in the preseason and let him work to earn his roster spot. When he sucked major ass they cut him. Why would that be stupid and clueless? Literally a blow-up doll would be as effective as Kruger was for a long time. Not having a true replacement isn't some big deal-it's part of the process.

I swear, some of you guys should start making those conspiracy videos on Youtube.

Not that I care, but our fourth-round pick we just got is for 2018 right? Obviously value is lost the further out you get. So it's not quite apples and oranges. (Or was the Patriots trade also for a 2018 pick?)
