Why we need a QB in Top 5
-
Pretty simple. This is a weak QB draft class. So players with 3rd round value find themselves going 2nd. Players with 2nd see themselves going 1st round.
Look no further than 2013 with Geno Smith. Second round pick and the kid was a very questionable pick even then.
The wise stay put, do not artifically inflate the value of a given player do to the relative weakness of their fellow classmates and let the draft come to you.
In other words, no QB #1. Probably not even top 10.
Except, of course, to quote Captain Kirk...you are double dumbass wrong. AT LEAST 2 QBs will go in the Top ten. Trubisky and Watson.
Where on God's Green Earth did you get the idea that teams with desperate needs for a QB are not going to go after a QB: Browns, Jets, Bears, 49ers. Minimumly will be looking for QB. And some may even want to trade up higher to get one.
And the double wrong part is that yes, these two QBs WILL grade out to be Top Ten prospects.
What dozen miracle football players out there at other positions are going to impress the scouts SO much that they are ALL going to abandon their need for a QB to take these other guys.
That's right.....no one.
When was the last time a QB was not drafted in the top 10?Except, of course, to quote Captain Kirk...you are double dumbass wrong. AT LEAST 2 QBs will go in the Top ten. Trubisky and Watson.

2013. Which is EXACTLY the point I'm attempting to highlight.

Was my post about a weak draft class NOT clear in some way? You DON"T pick a QB that high, because he looks like he might have a few flower peddles among a garden of weeds.
That it artificially inflates value of players that are lesser against previous prospects by a great margin? At any point that registers, let me know... then form a counter argument against it.

Right....you pick a QB because he appears to be an outstanding prospect.
I mean....do you not fucking get what I am fucking saying? I think this guy has Aaron Rodgers like talent.
I am not fucking stuttering.
Do you now understand the words that are coming out of my mouth.
There is NO fucking artificially inflating value.
If you disagree....so be it. But your opinion on this matter is not worth a cabbage fart more than anyone else's.

And if you pass on all of the top 3 and just one of them becomes good to great and you had the #1 pick?

What about Trubisky's game reminds you of Aaron Rodgers? Any particular game we should check out?

Gip picked a guy so he has to ride it into the ground. It is his thing. Facts don't matter. Trubisky said he wants to be Brown thus Aaron Rodgers haha.
I don't see it in him. But if we pick him, I'll be his biggest fan.

To throw a wrench into everything

offer up one of our many late-round draft picks for A.J. McCarron and use our early round picks drafting BPA. Browns have so many holes, it doesn't matter what position they draft as long as they get the best possible football player they can get. Or just stick with Kessler, save the draft picks and fix this horrible defense and get some depth on the offensive line. Just don't waste a high draft pick on a QB that will end up getting killed on this team.

i looked up "red flag" in the dictionary and it turns out the definition is when an NFL team is willing to trade a quarterback within the division.

Defensive pass rushers round one (with this deep class there will be two there @ 1 and 12) and C plus OL round 2. Round 3 should still have a good Safety available. I could also live with a pass rusher and a CB at 1 and 12 since Ogbah will get better with a pure pass rusher on the opposite end.

Facts do matter.......but this IS a matter of talent evaluation.....which is obviously based on opinion.
But here is a fact: In my opinion this guy has Aaron Rodgers like talent and aptitude. It has nothing to do with where he is from.
The Browns passed on BR. They passed on Rodgers. They passed on Carr. And others....and we have been in QB hell. I just want us to get out of Hell. And I think this guy can get us there better than anyone.

Similar size....both about 6'3 I believe. Both have quick release. Strong arm. Accurate arm. Mobility. Moxy. Both tangibles and intangibles.
Again, not perfect. Obviously Rodgers wasn't considered perfect since he lasted until #24.

Bengals management has never traded within the division, and they said they never will. They're apparently "old school", and one of our beat writers said this would never happen. However, I believe his contract is up in 2018, so anything is possible then. I don't remember if the Bengals have ever traded with us, but can't really think of anything off hand.

Or....maybe get the QB at #1...and use the other 12 picks or whatever we have, plus free agency to bolster the OL.
Start with drafting Elflein or Pocic at OC. Maybe take Ramczyk at RT. Or get a Free Agent or two. Westside Steve brought up Eric Steinbach as an example of what we should do. It wouldn't hurt the Browns to sign a decent FA or two to fill some holes, would it?

Some belong in the top 5 and some dont, Gip....
Just because a guy is the top QB in his class....that does not automatically make him a top 5 pick.....
Lots of history to back that up too.....
Trubisky is no where NEAR the type of prospect that Manning, Aikman & Elway were.....not even close....
Just ask Blake Bortles, EJ Manuel, Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young, Ryan Leaf, David Carr, RGIII and the rest of the cant miss crowd.....
And, Trubisky is not rated as high as most of these guys were.....he just isnt

So are we sitting Mitch for three years to get the whole "Rodgers" effect as well?
