Here's some stats of this year's top prospects in varying schemes and techniques:

Myles Garrett had 32.5 sacks and 48.5 Tackles For Losses (TFLs) the last 3 years

Derek Barnett had 33 sacks and 52 TFLs the last 3 years

Jonathan Allen had 27.5 sacks and 41.5 TFLs the last 3 years

Solomon Thomas had 11.5 sacks and 25.5 TFLs the last 2 years

    Previously:

Bark Mingo had 15 sacks and 29 TFLs his last 3 years at LSU

What were Garrett and Barnett's stats vs SEC opponents? I heard they were in Barnett's favor pretty big, which if true, is concerning.

We've hashed this out before. SEC West is a different league than SEC East, especially the offenses. Comparing apples and oranges.

  • I see bust potential with Garrett. That said, the ceiling is so high I think you have to take him.

  • lol... to paraphrase Harry Truman... "What I need is a one-handed football analyst."

  • I don't post much on here , but I feel like there is one factor here that hasn't been brought up.

This kid is consensus #1 pick....Every team in the league picks Garrett with the first pick.Even BB with his shiny new Lombardi would not pass on this guy.

Why? Because he's that much better than anybody else, and no GM wants to be the guy who passed on Lawrence Taylor .... To pick George Rodgers!!!

That doesn't mean he's the next LT, but the measurables are there that say he's the closest this draft has to offer as a sure thing...

and you make that choice every, single, time! And so do the other 31 teams.

Hell if he's been alive that long he needs to post more or he runs out of time to get his quota. Or as the old frog once told me, "Croak!" 😆

I've never gone all in on Garrett at all, so no. In fact I have been vocal at times about how he's not street tough (I know he's played through injury, that's not what I'm talking about), may retire to become an author in 5 years, and tires easily.

So we're only going 9 and 7 this year? Imagine our disappointment...

God what a disaster that would be. 9-7 with the best def in the nfl and a playoff run? Pfffttt, who wants that stress? Not browns fans i can tell ya. We like relaxing Sundays watching hard core prison anal with maybe a win or two sprinkled in for good measure

Ask any texans fan, and I know many of them. They know what they have on D but also know they can't win it because they did not get the QB position correct. They will also tell you they fear their window of opportunity is closing because they don't have a QB and are never picking high enough to get one.

And I'm sure a lot of them can remind us how bad things went when they drafted a QB first overall. In my memory, the only QB we got right in round 1 in 1985 required a supplemental draft process for carpet diem. That was 32 years ago so it's hard to feel confident especially during a year many well paid draft analysts and NFL scouts are seeing the entire QB class as a bunch of projects.

We have a backup plan though called the 12 pick

  • Now this mock would serve all of us I believe.

I pay attention, but I also use the eye test and I've watched Trubisky play since he was 7 yrs old and the kid was special then and he excelled at every level he played at which leads me to believe he will excel and become a great one in the NFL.

When I did my mock draft I had the toughest time with pick #12 because I came to the realization that so many of the guys I would really like will probably be gone there. The 1 guy I thought would STILL be available at #12 was Derek Barnett; but I already had us taking Garrett at #1 so..... I opted to reach on a WR (JuJu Smith-Schuster) that Kessler established a great chemistry with at USC in 2015 (89 receptions 1454 yds and 10 TDs). As expected, that went over in here like a fart in church.

The difference between Garrett and Barnett brings us to 3 possible options:

    1. Draft the QB at #1 - We're told by (Hoorta & Gipper) the President and VP of Camp Trubisky that he will be gone long before pick #12. They're probably right. Therefore, if we could get a guy like Derek Barnett at #12 (who had more sacks and TFLs for losses in the SEC over the last 3 years than Myles Garrett) - our FO could be thinking they draft their #1 QB at #1 and take Barnett at #12. If I had to take a QB first - it would be Trubisky. From what I've read, the only QB this fan base would even give a chance to in here in round 1 is Trubisky. Every time I mentioned Watson he got more skin crawling in here than Colt McCoy used to.

    2. Draft the QB at #12 after taking Garrett at #1, which could be Watson, Kizer or Mahomes.

    3. Draft the QB later without reaching. That allows us to take Garrett 1st, BPA at #12 and let the draft come to us. I suppose another option could be to take the best Safety 1st, Barnett at #12 and let the draft come to us.

Whether we like it or not, most FO and Head Coach tandems live and die with what's at QB. Seeing how many faves could be gone at #12 when I tried to do my mock - I could live with the choice to pick a QB in round 1 but option #3 above remains my fave.

Option 1 intrigues me, wasn't sure what 12 would bring if we went QB 1, I'm not sold that this FO feels the need to go DL when LB, and DB are the most pressing needs on D. I think people tend to forget that our O was terrible last year and adding two OL is not enough to make it better. QB and WR upgrades are what this O needs in a bad way. Our D is going to be overworked again if we don't get better on O.

An elite edge rusher should help your DBs out considerably. We can't keep giving QBs all day to throw so it's big need.

  • I really want Trubisky at 12 if Howard is gone....

    AND Dobbs later on.

I agree, how can we get garrett and Trubisky. #12 and two 2nd rounders next year to move up to 5 or 6 be enough?

  • Id say Garrett is the safest pick for our FO......so if he picks anyone else, he has some humongo balls......

Its pretty much a world consensus that we should tap him....so, even if he sucks, Id say Shashi is more protected from making a bad pick syndrome.....of course, pick someone else and then have that player fail...??....its over....

most recent board consensus for #1 pick was Shelton....and that pick is looking pretty good right now....(compared to most of our 1sts)

If the whole world thinks you should do 'A'.......and you do 'A' and it doesn't work out, it's unlucky.

If you do 'B' and it doesn't work out.....then you look like a dumb ass. (doing 'B' is at You're Own Risk)

  • Honestly im thinking save our picks to deal next year. If trub isnt there at 12 take the bpa and move up next year
