It would not disturb me at all to get 3 defenders in the 1st round, if OJ is gone by 12.

How do you get 3 players with only 2 picks? Unless you do a trade.

And, presuming you don't want to trade #1, where are you going to get someone to give you 2 first round picks for #12?

(Or are you talking about trading up from #33 to low in the first round?)

Yep-the trade up into the 18-21 level. Use some of those late rounders we waste anyway.

Lets see if they can use some of that "currency" weve heard so much about and actually trade up for quality, instead of trading back for shit + more currency.....

(and Im not talking about trading 1st and 2nd round picks....lets see some 4th - 5th -6th rounds picks turn into a good player......)

    A man a plan Panama!

    I think that's a good plan.

If they take Garrett #1, use some of that capital to move up to get the QB they need.

And/or move back up into the end of round one and get 3 hopeful first round studs.

    Ummmm... isn't R4/5/6 prime trade-back, bonus-pick territory? 😛

Actually we've plenty of R5/6.... R3/4 is where we could stand to fill a couple long waits. I can easily see us trading down 3.01 (#65) overnite, Friday night to do a little filling... maybe even packaging it with 4.01.

  • Right....3.1 back into the 2nd or 4.1 into the third would work for me......pay the man

edit....Id also use a 2 this year and next year....plus a 4 or later to move back into the first...

  • Wasn't my intended direction of movement, which was down in the 3rd and 4th, but for the right player...

  • If we do any trading down I'd want ammunition for 2018 so we can move up for a QB since we will be 8-8. Right? 😁

Now...see.....I cant get with moving down and adding more picks.....especially late ones......I honestly think too many picks too many years ina row dilutes the team and doesnt allow for proper evaluation or development....would much rather consolidate those later picks and get fewer(better) players.....

So if you add a couple picks late, then you forego a couple UDFAs.

Camp is limited to 90... I see some decent, 4th-5th-6th round prospects, but precious little in the 7th which infers the UDFA class will be weaker than usual.

At a minimum I could see trading either 6.01 or 6.04 for a midling and late 6th. Boards are so scattered by that stage you can probably land your 6.04 guy in the 6.15-6.20 range and still pocket a 6th round Comp... a Comp that could even end up being worth a late, 2018 5th to someone.

  • 6th round?.....have at it......

4th and earlier......use our picks or move up.....

    For me...instead of getting an extra 6th.....Id rather use that 6th to turn my 4th into a late 3rd.....or a 5th into a 4th...etc...

Again.....with the 22 young uns we brought in last year....plus, what? another 15-20 coming this year?....how do we play and evaluate all those players?......especially if it takes a min 2 years to see what you have?....

I dont want to flood our roster with a huge pile of late rounders that we are forced to keep around for evaluation, playing time, etc...so, I say consolidate those15 players to 8 higher percentage players.....

But, again, we're going into camp with 90... plus PUPs, so the number of youngsters, i.e., the evaluation/projection load, is not going to vary. You can argue you'd focus more upon, play your fewer, higher-taken guys, guys who you are likely going to assign a lower "stick" threshold and thus get more data over more time anyway, but then odds increase that the potential of one of lesser players you sign to fill out your camp eludes you.

How to evaluate them all? Coaching staff breaking down everything... scouts evaluating scrimmage and preseason tape... analytic data generation and crunching...

As for concentrating picks... that simply flies in the face of analytics. The odds of hitting upon one of two 25%-ers > one of one 40%-ers.

#castawidenet... and if you understood that, then you know tweets... 😉

You know we did that last year and ended up cutting/keeping a lot of the wrong guys......you do realize they kept every single player they drafted, right?.....and thats NOT because they deemed them the best players....it's because they wanted to keep and evaluate their guys....

Which forced them to cut some of the wrong guys.....and vets who could have helped this team....

    It'll happen again this year......

    Just like Kyrie

  • Conley visiting the Jags and Jets jeez he could be long gone by 12

Ditto... I like Conley, but not enough for top half of the first. Just means another option for us at 12 if he goes top ten...

Cutting vets wasn't about 2016... it was about looking for the nucleus for 2018 and beyond.

And it was a good recipe for 1-15. You can't "develop" talent that isn't there. I hope Sashi and DePo have learned to swallow their pride this year, and admit they threw away picks on bums instead of letting them waste roster spots.

  • You'll see more from the receivers they drafted last year. At times we were running two receivers last year and everyone else was blocking. They've upgraded the line, don't dismiss last year's guys just yet.
